WSS 3.0 and Windows Server 2008
We recently moved a WSS 3.0 farm from a Win2K3 server to a Win2K8 server. I was just told that Windows Server 2008 will only allow one remote user at a time. This means I can't be on the server at the same time as the network technician configuring the antivirus software. Making things even more interesting, when he logs on, it kicks me off with no warning (to either one of us). I miss Windows Server 2003 allowing three of us. Guess I have to plan a little more than I did before. UPDATE: 09/15/09: ......

WSS 3.0 - Move a subsite with subsites
Last Updated: 10/17/08 I'm working in a test WSS 3.0 environment and I would like to be able to move a subsite with subsites to another environment. There are several ways to move a WSS 3.0 site. The first one I tried almost worked. I will document my attempts (and reason each attempt was or was not successful here. SharePoint Designer The technique: Create a placeholder for the new location of the site Use WSS 3.0 browser Create a site using the Blank Site template. Create a backup of the site to ......

WSS 3.0: Document Library saved as a template is not in the Libraries choices on the Create Page
Windows SharePoint Services 3.0: Document Library saved as a template is not in the Libraries choices on the Create Page The scenario: A SharePoint user, named Pat, creates a Document Library and saves several forms. The user then requests an administrator of the site to save this as a template (and include the content) named SchoolDocumentLibrary. Pat then tries to Create a new Document Library with the newly created template. However, the SchoolDocumentLibrary is not listed in the Libraries templates. ......

WSS 3.0 - Features vs features
Now that I have migrated a site from WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 I am discovering that the sites migrated do not necessarily have the same functionality as new sites created in WSS 3.0. That's fine -- but I would like get a handle on what is different between the two sites. Features seems to be an area with differences. I began researching this with google. Why oh why, did Microsoft call a feature a Feature in WSS 3.0. I am returning more results with new features (meaning new functionality) than I am for ......

WSS 2.0 to 3.0 Upgrade - Alerts are not working
Following a recent upgrade of a WSS 2.0 to WSS 3.0 (using database migration due to moving to new hardware) it was discovered that alerts set in WSS 2.0 were not firing in WSS 3.0. It was strange because if you looked in Site Settings - User Alerts (under Site Administration column) it will look like the alerts migrated successfully. It turns out, if you are using a different URL for the sites in 3.0 than 2.0, the alerts will not be correct. The alerts are stored in a table in the content database ......
