When I open a document in Word 2007, the mouse works to click any items in the ribbon but when I try to use the mouse within the document it does not seem to be recognized.  I can NOT select text, click to a different location within the document or right click and use the context menu.

Some research seems to point to add-ins.  I can correct the problem by starting Word from a command prompt without add-ins

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe /a

So now to correct the problem.  Research indicates to make some changes to the registry. here

I tried the following from the article

Rename the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Data key to OldData so Word can create a new key.  This did not correct the problem.

Next I was going to try the AddIn key located HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\12.0\Word\Addins but there was none.  I did have a key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft Office\Word\Addins (no 12 folder).  I tried renaming that.  This did not correct the problem.

I'll keep at in and when it is resolved update my blog.

We had the same problem on computers running LaserFiche. If your computers have LaserFiche, you can find the solution at support.laserfiche.com, article ID 1011746. You must have a login for this site.

Basically you download a zip file that extracts out two dlls. Replace the dlls and register them. Here's an exerpt from the document. You can download the zip file from LaserFiche.

- Download the zip file Hotfix_SCR28596.zip which contains LFOffice72.dll (version 7.2.0.4) and DocumentProcessor72.dll (version 7.2.0.7).

- Replace your existing version of LFOffice72.dll located at "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\LFOffice" with the updated version included in the zip file.

- Replace your existing version of DocumentProcessor72.dll located at "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\LFObjects" with the updated version included in the zip file.

- Register the new versions of LFOffice72.dll and DocumentProcessor72.dll.
Click Start and then click Run
Type the following and click OK:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\LFOffice\LFOffice72.dll"

Click Start and then click Run.
Type the following and click OK:
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Laserfiche\LFObjects\DocumentProcessor72.dll"

This Microsoft support worked for me.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940791/en-us?spid=11377
I didn't rename the Data key, I just deleted it. Risky with the registry but it worked.
Good Luck

I add the same problem, but once i disabled the add-ins, it was gone for good. To disable the add-ins permanently i followed the instructions on this web page:

The Microsoft KB worked fine. However, it doesn't tell what causes the problem so that it can be prevented if possible.

1. Exit all Office programs.
2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
3. Locate the following registry subkey, as appropriate for the version of Word that you are running:
• Word 2002:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\10.0\Word\Addins
• Word 2003:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Word\Addins
• Word 2007:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Word\Addins
4. Click Addins, and then click Export on the File menu.
5. Name the file WdaddinHKCU.reg, and then save the file to the desktop.
6. Click Delete on the Edit menu, and then click Yes
7. Locate the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
8. Click Addins, and then click Export on the File menu.
9. Name the file WdaddinHKLM.reg, and then save the file to the desktop.
10. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click Yes.
11. Exit Registry Editor.
12. Start Word.

The problem was with mouse. I coudn't do any action with mouse after Word application loses focus (after minimize, for example).

I tried
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe /a

It helped. Now I can run without any attribute. The problem is gone. Wish you luck.

I had the same problem.
winword /a was a temporary workaround.

The source of the problem was 'power designer' add-in. I deactivated it and now its OK.

# re: Word 2007 - Mouse not responding in document 7/11/2008 10:55 AM Bill
Yup. I had the Sybase PowerDesigner add-in too. Removed that and all was OK

# re: Word 2007 - Mouse not responding in document 8/5/2008 2:54 PM Eric
I could not get to Add-Ins in Word Options while the mouse was dead.

Thanks to Dmitry for the tip on starting Word without any attributes.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe /a

Removing the PowerDesigner add-in solved it for me!

I tried both

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\winword.exe /a

and

regedit...

both are working..

Thanks for the info....

Naveen
