.NET 3.5 SP1 now available as a Windows Feature in Windows 7 RTM

Recently I upgraded to Windows 7 RTM and started setting up my machine.   The usual set of tools I install are Visual Studio 2008, SQL Server 2008, Expression etc.,  Also, for .NET 3.5 and Visual Studio 2008 I would require to install the respective SP1 releases as well since they are mandatory and contain tons of new features as well.

I had done this in the past in Windows Vista, Windows 7 RC etc., and while I was trying to install .NET 3.5 SP1 on the new Windows 7 RTM, it surprisingly, popped up a message as below:-

I then realized that .NET 3.5 SP1 is now available in Windows Features under “Control Panel – Programs – Turn Windows Features on or off”.  All I had to do, was enable it.

Cheers !!!

It's not enabled by default?

Using a bootstrapper to get the framework on now sounds like a big problem. Guess it's LaunchConditions and 'punt' ( I.e. not my problem ) time.

3.5 SP1 should be turned on my default on Win7. It is only off by default on server OS's.

Where is it? As I cannot seem to get it installed properly under RTM version of Windows 7 Enterprise.

When I go to 'Turning on Windows feature' from control pannel, it gives a list of features to turn on and off. Which one would cause .net 3.5 (sp 1) to be enabled ( if installed) or would install if not in the system ( win 7 rtm 64 bit). I'm trying to install .net 3.5 sp 1 but it gives no detail about the error ( just error on with windows pane ). Who really cares if it is already installed or not and hack around it? I'm trying to install Turbo tax 2009, that complains ( or does it) about .net 3.5 sp 1. Then I go to ms website for online download and install it, and I get just error dialog box --- sucks!

Man tries hard to gain experience. We tend to use smart points when we see student dissertations at allfreepapers.blogspot.com to postpone theit more talented rivals.
