Visual Studio 2005 SP1, ASP.NET AJAX 1.0 RC1 and .NET Framework 3.0

What an year 2006 has been?  There were major releases such as Windows Vista, Office 2007 and Exchange 2007.

There were interim releases of Microsoft Ajax Library Beta 1, Beta 2 and RC1.

There has been an SP1 Release for Visual Studio 2005.

Clearly, it has been an year of new technologies.  Secondly, the term "Web 2.0" caught up attention everywhere and suddenly everyone seems to have swallowed "Web 1.0" which never existed.

Well, I am planning for a detailed post on Why it is never "Web 2.0" later but to summarize, there has been a lot of buzz in the industry much similar to the Dot Com Buzz 7 years ago.

What is the relevance of this post?

In this post, I am just providing a list of things Developers need to know about what is released, what to use and how to upgrade.

Why is it important?

Sometimes, we ourselves get confused with the avalanche of releases and it is quite easy that you may get lost out of the flood of tools and technologies released over the second half of 2006.

What follows next?

In my next and subsequent posts, I want to write about making your things work together with all the above releases and gearing up for the latest updates.

Correct me !

Although I take utmost care before putting out the information, I might miss out sometimes more due to a perspective than due to lack of knowledge.  Please correct me in these cases.  You can post your clarifications in the comments and I would incorporate them ASAP into this post.

Having made enough build up above, let me move on to what you need to know if you are a .NET Developer and want to work on Next Generation Tools & Technologies.

Hi Pandu,

It does include. The components of SP1 are Web Application Project, Web Deployment Project as well as a few fixes.

Check http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/support/vs2005sp1/default.aspx

Additional support for project file based Web applications

In fact before installing SP1, if you had installed an earlier version of Web Application Project, you need to uninstall it, since it comes bundled with the SP1
