ClearType in Windows XP : Something good for your eyes 0 0

Today when I installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview on my machine I realized that the font in the Internet Explorer has became smooth and sharp, at the first glance it seems magical !

Then I tried to find out why ?

Friend of mine Siddarth Aggarwal (Sid) told me about this, that it's Clear Type from Microsoft which enables smooth and sharp fonts on LCD screen (it may smooth on CRT's as well). Then we tried to find out more on this and we got following excrept from Microsoft Typography page.

Windows XP is Microsoft's first operating system release to include system wide ClearType support. Use our updated ClearType Web interface or downloadable PowerToy Tuner to activate ClearType and tune your ClearType settings.

This is a picture of ClearType under extreme magnification, with the sub-pixels of an LCD explicitly rendered to show the structure of the ClearType letterforms.

It might look odd for a few days but it's better for your eyes, increases readablity, and it's very realxing for eyes !

It's worth trying atleast once, so what are you waiting for !

Go ahead, and eXPerience it !

Tried it myself after reading article in www.theeldergeek.com and was most impressed. Perhaps, my eyes have got to teh stage when they need all the technological help they can get.
