Exporting SQL Server Diagram

Sunday, February 11, 2007 8:41 PM

Wish there's a easy way to export the SQL Server diagram. If you have installed MS Visio, I would wish there's a right click option on SQL Server diagram to export to Visio but there's not.

When you are on the SQL Server Diagram window (Database Diagram), right click on the empty white space on the Diagram, there's an option "Copy Diagram to Clipboard", you can paste in MSPaint or Photoshop which is better than nothing I guess but it's not as cool as you would be able to open in Visio as ER model or something, no?

I'm still gonna search if there's any other way to export the SQL Database Diagram.

It has been a couple of years since I used Visio but I used to use the reverse engineer feature in Visio to import tables with their relationships to create an ER diagram.

Dude, did you ever find a way of getting those pesky SSMS diagrams into Visio? I'm baffled, and I don't have control of the server to install Visio on it... I need to pull the diagram into Visio from the server across the network (via remote desktop) to my local machine to get it into Visio... Any ideas?

Thanks!!!

Amaranthus,

Although I've not tried all the way but I don't think you can export SSMS diagram from SQL to visio or anywhere matter of fact. You can use Visio to reverse engineer the existing/new tables which you can move between servers as it saves in the Visio format but that's about it!

Sorry, couldn't help you!
