For me, Remembrance Day is a day to stop and think about the sacrifices made and lives given by our soldiers for our freedom. Whatever you think about war in general and specific conflicts, it is always the soldiers who are called to fight as well as innocent civilians who suffer.

At this time of year there is always talk against Remembrance Day and against wearing the poppy (link via Darren) and war in general. Especially at times like these where the US is participating in what many (including me) believe to be an unnecessary war.

Yes, war is often the result of politician's inability to resolve situations peacefully and diplomatically, but unfortunately there are times when force must be met with force. Force is sometimes required to protect the lives of the innocent.

So, in my opinion, no matter what your views on the wars and peacekeeping missions that we are unfortunately called to fight and participate in, the soldiers are the ones who suffer and for that I thank them for making the ultimate sacrifice.

Peace.
