Community Launch Event: Upgrading to SQL Server 2005
I wasn't able to make it to the Launch event today here in Vancouver (work always gets in the way :-p) but I did get to got to yesterday's SQL Server 2005 Community Launch Event: Upgrading to SQL Server 2005 hosted by the Vancouver PASS chapter. I (stupidly) forgot to write down the details of who was presenting last night (I'll find out though), but the presentation was very cool. Like the presenter said, it wasn't terribly exciting, but then again the last thing you want when upgrading SQL server ......

Windows Movie Maker and IFOEdit
Speaking of software that passed the seven day test, here's something that didn't. I was playing with Windows Movie Maker to cut together some home video and was having issues with the app suddenly crashing. I looked around and remembered that I had installed some AVI codecs and IFOEdit a few days ago. Removing the codecs didn't do the trick, but as soon as IFOEdit was uninstalled, Movie Maker was stable as a rock. From there I was easily able to cut together the video, add some music and I'm good ......

Windows Live Passes The Seven Day Test
For the past few years I have been using google.ca as my home page. This was simply for the fact that it's fast to load About a month ago I decided to give start.com a try and recently I switched to Windows Live. I decided to give it the Sandquist Seven Day test. Windows Live takes a little longer to load but I can have customized, updated information right at my fingertips. My weather and top news headlines as well as a few choice blogs are right there. Plus I have the added bonus of being able ......

Remembrance Day
For me, Remembrance Day is a day to stop and think about the sacrifices made and lives given by our soldiers for our freedom. Whatever you think about war in general and specific conflicts, it is always the soldiers who are called to fight as well as innocent civilians who suffer. At this time of year there is always talk against Remembrance Day and against wearing the poppy (link via Darren) and war in general. Especially at times like these where the US is participating in what many (including ......

Virtual Places Rocks
From Savas' blog: Microsoft coder Nikhil Kothari released Virtual Places which uses Virtual Earth and various web services to display various geographically relevant results. Really cool stuff. Yes it's similar to Google Maps and yes it doesn't work in Firefox but it has tons of potential and I find it really slick for a personal project. Great job Nikhil ......

Boeing 777 Going For World Record
I hadn't heard anything about this until this morning but Boeing is flying a 777-200LR non-stop from Hong Kong to London, but instead of following a shorter western route they are flying an eastern path over North America. I haven't been able to find a update on the flight, it should be about half way through the flight by now. According to this BBC article the flight should be about 20,300 km, which is a little more than half the circumference of the earth. Halfway around the world non-stop in about ......

.NET Presentation Topics

It looks like I'm going to be presenting at a .NET related thing sometime next year and I'm trying to decide what my talk is going to be about. I'm not really sure yet so I thought I'd check with you fine folks. There will be code and examples involved.

Is there anything you would like to see? Security? Performance? SQL Server? The basics? How about VB vs. C#? What would interest you more?

I'll update you all later as things become more finalized.
