Hi, if you have a problem accessing your inbox (everytime i tried to log on 'loading' appeared in the left hand corner and kept flashing) try going to to your internet options under Tools. Click setting, view files, then select all those files and delete them. This worked for me :)

I have been getting the server error problems - intermittently till today. Today I have been unable to logon for 5 hrs. Like you I think an alternate mail solution is the only answer. Shame though as I liked google till this. I can't work out why they don't make some sort of statement. I assume they realise they have a problem?

The only thing I have found in the case of getting the "loading" message and nothing else is to maybe try the Gmail Notifier. You can find it by googling on "gmail notifier".

I have found the case where I close the browser window without logging out of Gmail (force of habit) sometimes results in me getting the "loading" message if I try to log in through the browser again. However, since I use the notifier on one of my machines, I can log in through that without any problem.

Then, once I finish and log out of Gmail the right way, I can log back in through the browser again from any machine. Does that make sense? You might want to give that a shot.

You can be sure that the people at Google know that they are having these issues and are working on them. I guess that's why the project is still in Beta and they limit the number of users. They don't seem to be too open on communication with users though, so there's no official word (that I know of) as to these issues.

If you're using Gmail as your primary email (especially for business purposes) it may be a good idea to go with another solution for the time being as you suggest.

I've also been having problems accessing my gmail account. Instead of loading the page, the word "loading" comes up and the address bar just keeps clicking until you finally close internet explorer. I've had this problem since yesterday, and haven't had it with any other websites or email accounts I have.

Deleting your cookies is the solution. As AM Green says look in Tools>Internet Options>View Files and then CTRL+A, then DEL, close your browser, open it again and you could reach your inbox in just a second.

Hi all.

It seems that most of the issues being reported lately are either with the system being unavailable or with an actual error message. If the system appears unavailable, it usually comes back within an hour, so I guess it's just wait and try again later...

If you're getting an error message like the "Oops.." error or the "Waiting" message which does not go away, I'd suggest trying the Gmail troubleshooting list here:

gmail.google.com/support/bin/topic.py?topic=133

Most of the solutions are along the lines of clear your cache a few times and try again. Hope that helps...

If you have the problem in accessing your gmail account with loading message appearing all the time than you can also try going to to your internet options under Tools. Click setting, view files, then select all those files and delete them.

This also worked for me ....GMail is nice...dont think of getting rid from it.

Try clearing your browser's cache. If that does not work try again in a while. There were some issues earlier today, I was not able to access my email for about half an hour earlier.

It may take time to delete each if you have alot built up.

Please note: This will also delete any saved login names, passwords etc. which many sites use, so you will have to log in to your favourite sites. Your mileage may vary.

Funny, on windows I can't get in no matter what I do, clear cookies, files, kill firewall, flush dns, site exception, yadda yadda.
Same problem on all my browsers, netscape, ie, firefox, etc.
But on my linux/firefox I log in just fine.

My problem is a bit unusual. I click on "Contacts" and I ONLY see 2 tabs: "Frequently Mailed" and "All Contacts". The "Groups" tag is NOT there, and therefore I cannot create groups! Anyone else has this problem?

I'm in Germany, no email for 18 hours now. Google "custom home page" won't show email previews, nothing. AT work I can't just install a patch, they got us locked down from installing anything. Thanks to the Man.

The problem is that GMAIL has been having severe email system problems of late. I use pop3 and cant send emails. So if I go to the web site it has"Gmail server is down... please check again in a few moments."

I think that GMAIL is in severe growing pains and they are having severe network / server problems that they can not seem to fix.

Don't ask where I saw it, but altering the gmail URL to https: from http: started mine working again. Of course the gmail notifier still fails. This got me by the Loading... problem. But then this AM, there seems to be a different problem.

I had the same problem, "Not being able to login to Gmail with firefox" - its actually not firefox tha was my problem. I am running "Zone Alarms free addition" and this was the cause of the problem. "THE FIX" - open zone alarms control center and click on the "Program Control tab". This window has 2 tabs "Main" and "Programs" click the "Programs Tab" and make sure the firefox under "Access" has 2 "GREEN" check marks and under "Server" it has 2 blue "QUESTION MARKS". relaunch firefox and you good to go.

Thanks, this is the first forum i found that addresses these problems after a few that required paying etc, i think.

I had problems with my gmail since yesterday night, infinitie redirecting when logging in and nothing appears. Nothing helped, including disabling firewalls and filters and deleting cache. Then i suddenly discovered that i accidentally changed my computer's date settings for two months ahead (when checking for the day of the week in two months i accidentally set it). I returned it to the current date today and voila! It's solved, gmail works fine again.

Hope this will help the few of you whose problem might be similar.

My gmail doesn't work during last 5 days either.
It is actually don't down at all couse I get transferred gmail messages
from my yahoo mail box. But I cannot open my gmail page and send

Have been unable to log-in to gmail since 21 June. Same problems as others. Asks for username and password, and refuses to recognise password.
Gmail help is worse than useless as they ask for the original invitation reference or URL when I joined in order to trace it -really, from over 2 years ago!

I had a problem with my gmail account... At login, the session kept on getting interrupted... Reading the support info, it mentioned that there is an issue Re: accessing gmail outside of the US...
The fix is to use the following url https://mail.google.com/mail/ which seems to have cured the problem...

After login, "Loading" was displayed for 1 second, then "blank page" on IE as well as Firefox and Opera. Using your URL displays the mailbox etc.
I also tried to replace http:// with https://, and this also seems to work. but I do not guarantee.

I have cleared my cache, rebooted and still nothing. This doen't happen when I access Gmail from work. Gmail is the ONLY email that I use that seems to be a problem and its a daily issue. Nothing else (inbox.com, Road Runner, Mail2world, etc..) fails to load.

Ok were to start im an engineer working in scotland providing internet to halls of residences.. And am getting a complete headache about not being able to get the page http://gmail.google.com to load. It normally times out and comes up sorry page cannot be displayed. Where as on others it works fine... And i have basically tried everything i can think of in internet explorer.. clearing all history cached pages and security certificates with no joy... reinstalling the winsock, reinstalling the network drivers and trying a different internet browser all with no avail... Hey folks,

Thanks, this is the first forum i found that addresses these problems after a few that required paying etc, i think.

I had problems with my gmail since yesterday night, infinitie redirecting when logging in and nothing appears. Nothing helped, including disabling firewalls and filters and deleting cache. Then i suddenly discovered that i accidentally changed my computer's date settings for two months ahead (when checking for the day of the week in two months i accidentally set it). I returned it to the current date today and voila! It's solved, gmail works fine again.

Hope this will help the few of you whose problem might be similar.

Hi J John,

This thread contains quite a few ideas that have worked for other users such as clearing your browser's cache or trying a secure connection (https://) etc. I would suggest reading through the comments and trying to implement those ideas.

I have noticed that Gmail has been a bit of a pain this past week while connecting, but usually waiting a few minutes and trying again has done the trick for me.

It looks like there are some big issues going on with Gmail but the mail is getting through so I guess you just have to wait a bit and try again. It is kind of crazy that these issues are still happening. I guess that's why Gmail is still in Beta...

I've been having problems for 2.5 hrs. I was able to get in once, btu I can't open my emails, dleete spam, or do anything... My husband has an account as well, he has no trouble getting in. He doesn't have all the personalized home page like I do - maybe that's the difference? I tried to get rid of the personalized homepage (delete all bookmarsk, etc) but I can't even get into Settings. Any ideas?

What the F is happening with Gmail?!!! My job depended on their service and I can only enter with basic HTML and the loading is so late. Someone with connection to Gmail personnel PLS ask them to do something about it!. I don't want to lose my job because of their sudden F*** UP service.

Um, if your job depends on Gmail, or you expect apologies from Google then maybe you should keep a few things in mind.
1. Gmail is still technically in Beta, so you should expect problems.
2. You get what you pay for. If you really depend on it, you may want to look around at other options, or at least some redundant systems.

I totally agree with both of you. It sucks that so many people have their vital information in Gmail and can't access it for hours or *days* at a time.

Yes, Google would do better to offer more assistance with the issue.

Does anyone suffer the same sort of issues with Hotmail/Windows Live Mail? I don't use it that extensively these days, but it always seems to be working for me. Any other opinions on this?

I'm experiencing about the same problem for a couple of days, just a blank page and incessant auto-attempts to have an access antime I try to load the main page.. giving no results. Just annying. I never had this sorta troubles with any other FREE mail.

Yes, I guess you have a point. Although Gmail is free, many many people have migrated their email to Google and then are sometimes left hanging for days without access to their messages.

Plus, it's not exactly like Google is doing all of this out of the goodness of their hearts, they make quite a bit of money from the advertisements which they dish up...

Alice,

Based on the number of issues people seem to be encountering you may think twice about that if your email access is crucial (like for work for example).

I use it as my main (personal) address, but if you're outside of the US or Canada you may go days without it, so it's something to consider.

My hotmail (Windows Live mail) account has never given me any problems though.

I have used Gmail without any problems for over a year, until now. I cannot send or archive mail. Incoming mail can be read. I am in New Zealand.

Gmail, like hotmail etc., is great for people on the move who change ISP's and thus email addresses regularly. It is no good if it is unreliable though. while Gmail may be in beta, if it gets a reputation for unreliability now it may be hard to convince people otherwise at a later date.

I have the same problem. Don't know since when but I don't see any thumbnails for any sent or received images. My wife on the other hand sees only the first 2-3 thumbnails and then the rest is just the icons representing the image. It sux big time. I hope they fix this asap because it's annoying having to load the whole images just to know what's in the mail.

This is totally bogus. The problem is with my account, not the browser. I can login no problem with my son's account, but mine just hangs....

Until this point I had admired Google's software quality, but no more. It also pisses me off that there is no acknowledgement of a problem I am certain they know about.

I'm in Paris and it seems most of the above complaints come from people trying to access gmail outside the US. Very annoying. Just keeps flashing a connection but never connects.

Hi Joseph,

It usually seems to be machine specific. From the comments most people resolve it by clearing the browser's cache but it may or may not work for you. Good luck.

I have had two problems not already extensively discussed.

First, over the summer I had 2 days of confirmed lost email that just NEVER showed up.

Second, lately I've been having problems with a day plus delay in the delivery of my messages.

Is anyone else having these problems? I made the mistake of using my gmail for an extensive job search and my biggest fear is that I miss important email.

I can load up google page to receive mail, the inbox appears but no mail is showing, either there or in any of the boxes (sent mail, archives. etc) Google will not allow me to scroll down the page or access any other instructions. Use UPX Software which reduces your size of exe files (Internet explorer, Mozilla Browsers).
Mozilla is my favourite browser. Problems is not
of gmail is of ur computer. Reasons disk might be fragmented or Low PC Configuration or Some
data might have went in bad sectors or there may be some operating system error or some application error. The thing is computer needs maintenance and todays huge graphics software demands huge configuration. Making a computer work is most difficult and uninteresting thing. I was so into Gmail. I loved this account. As I said - I loved it.. not any more. For the past 5 days I don't have any access to the mail. I am the same frustrated as all of you. It happened to me first time in my life, but looking on the dates on your posts it seems that this is quite common problem with Gmail. Yahoo probably is very happy, because it the past it has been loosing a lot of clients to Gmail. Now, I can see a lot of people switching back.. including me!

I totally agree. Google grabed a large bunch of people with the exclusive invites and 2 GB of space but can't keep up with the demand.

gmail server seems to be having problems. But surprisingly, you can download all the messgaes using microsoft outlook or any other similar software.

Although, if I log-in to me 'Personalized' Google page, it displays the latest e-mails and I can open and respond to them from there. Can't delete or archive them, and can't see anything older than those five e-mails.

I haven't had access for five days now. It tells me it is a Temporary Error 502 and they are working on it.
It would be nice if you could contact someone. All they have is a site about frequently asked questions. No way to email anyone about the problem. It is sad that they scooped us all into using gmail and then can't supply the demand.

The basic HTML view is virtually unusable as no scroll bars are generated for this view so you can only see the most recent messages based on your screen size.

Similar problem here for two days, can not log on or get into any Google account area, just get blank page. luckily I have Incredimail which is still retrieving mail.

After trying everything without success and a lot of searching around I found this

In Dubai, for the last 2 weeks gmail is down 20 hrs out of 24. I switched 4 month ago to gmail based on recommendations in order to have world wide access to my correspondence. I have world wide...... but I dont have around the clock. Just for fractions of the day. Need to look for a better provider but its so frustrating to inform again hundreds of contacts and to change email address in dozens of web registrations.

Me too. I'm in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, having the same problems. All my other 'google' things work, but not gmail. Tried changing browsers, same result, 'page currently unavailable etc etc'. Today I've even powered off and on a few times, after cleaning registry, clearing all caches and so forth. Still no joy. If any one has any ideas, let me know, I've been using my email to try and find a new job. Who knows, there could even be an offer in my inbox!!

Like some other commenters here, I am having the problem of being stuck in the perpetual loop when I try to sign in. It just keeps reloading the page over and over, though all you see is the blank white page before it reloads again. The address bar continually changes as well everytime it reloads, as if it were accessing different addresses or pages. Bizarre.

Folks, I am in Dubai. My wife and I both use GMAIL for our companies. To the people in the UAE, same here, last two weeks have been terrible. I thought at first it was a conflict with our national provider, but they have come back and said no.

It is nice to see gmail cares.

The only thing I have found that works is to move to my alternate (yahoo) account and beg people to contact me through that.

I loved working with gmail although I have an account that I pay for-
reasons can access files from any computer
notifier
and much more
but today I have had a terrible problem sending attachments from my computer..
we even got hooked up to a different explorer..
if i send mail with small word files it gets sent but any other slightly larger files it says
oops.... the system cannot perform your reqeust..
this has been going on ALL day
If there was a personal service or by mail or phone- maybe for a small charge I think it would help alot of people...

Im in Nepal at the moment and cant access my gmail account.
Last night I could get the sign in page by after signing in all I got was figures and symbols.

This morning I cant get into gmail at all. This has happened twice this week. Once when I needed to get an urgent email out. Looking at the posts I can see I'm not the only one having problems.

As soon as I get into gmail and can acess my address book I'm going back to Yahoo. At least it worked all the time.

I have similar problem. I use the same login and pwd that I have for 3 years. And gmail told me they do not match. I cannot access gmail for the past 3 days. Forced to switch all business transactions to another email account (non-gmail). Can't trust Google anymore. Any one have better ideas? I try to email complaints to Google. i am having the same problem, however guys, if you have microsoft outlook or outlook express, you can set it up to check gmail even while gmail is down. here are the steps:

Go to your igoogle page
Click on MY ACCOUNT
Click on MORE>>
At very bottom click on HELP CENTER
Under help with emailing click on GMAIL
Under GMAIL Essentials click on POP ACCESS
CLick on CONFIGURING YOUR EMAIL CLIENT: OUTLOOK EXPRESS AND OUTLOOK 2002
CLick on RUN THE AUTOCONFIGURATION TOOL
Follow instructions. Even if you have Microsoft Outlook 2002, I found that you still have to tell it you have Microsoft Outlook Express

This morning, my gmail account was disable for no reason. Better than that, they disabled every account that I sent invites to, including my wife, daughter , brother etc!
Additionally, the 'help' url allows you to submit, but I have not received any response.
This of course impacted my ad sense, blogger, google analytics, web pages, the whole shebang!

The gmail homepage isn't even loading for me from Doha, Qatar - "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at mail.google.com." Can't connect using thunderbird either. Never had any problems like this before though.

I spoke too soon....my email can be read, but it doesn't let me respond and answer. I hit reply, type and when I hit send I get an error message and the mail is lost.

This isn't an IE problem it is a Gmail problem. Their service has been flakey from day 1. It's been about three years now and people are complaining daily about not being able to access their mail.

I have been having the same problem, gmail stuck in loading. If I use https://mail.google.com/mail/ I get the same problem. If I use http://mail.google.com/mail/h, I can see my email but the chat isn't there. Can't somebody fix this? I did go through the instructions they provided that indicated you needed to add the mail domain to your firewall but that didn't seem to help. I guess google is telling us all that we get what we pay for?

Essentially, yes, you get what you pay for. Although Gmail is very popular it has alot of problems and issues with stability ad they are absolutley no help at all, it may work fine or you may have an outage that last for a week...

Hello. For the past few days I have been having a really disturbing problem with gmail (and only gmail). Any click in any email on any link is opening twice the link...

I tried uninstalling the google toolbar. Did not help.

FF still has some work to do to correctly deal with arabic language display, and thus, arabic people find themselves almost obliged to use IE.

am on winXP IE7.

Hi Yanlinn,

Millions of people use Gmail with Internet Explorer just fine. Others have problems with Firefox or other browsers. It's not a browser issue but a Gmail problem. Unfortunately I can't help you with that.

Google is having problems with the mail service and is affecting lots of people. It looks like switching to Windows Live Hotmail or Yahoo mail is the best choice for most people, including me.

Yesterday I lost a really important email that had taken 4 hours to compile ( as it was to do with a complicated genealogical issue)...
Without warning, I was suddenly logged out of Gmail & had to log in again, I went straight to drafts and the email was there, but I had lost most of the message completely... damned annoying as I will have to gather all that research again!

Gmail loading problems are becoming almost unbearable now. I am in Dhaka, Bangladesh... but I do not think it has anything to do with where it is that I am located, since every other web page loads just fine. Initially (about a couple of weeks ago) the problem wasn't with the login page (this is the reason why I had that login page as my home page at home), but loading my own account used to take a lot of time. But now - it has exacerbated to the very first page... and today, it just wouldn't load! I can browse fine anywhere else but gmail... searching in google works fine too... the problem is specifically with gmail.

Does anybody have a clue... this is really important, since I have a ton of work related articles and documents in my account that I must access.

I was excited to dump my cumbersome aol. account, which has many design and funcitonal flaws, for a FREE gmail account that all the techies are raving about and in getting started found that I'm not so impressed. I signed up for my account a few weeks ago, transferred all of my contacts, and here's what I found:
1) I sent 3 emails to professional contacts (at corporations) and they came back with a message. I checked the email addressess and confirmed that they were right and tried again, the same thing... not a off to a good start.
2) I was able to send a couple of emails to friends successfully and wend to my 'sent' box to forward a sent email to a few other friends AND unfortunately was UNABLE to select multiple contacts when forwarding my email. Perhaps I need an upgrade for this? I'm not sure, but this one issue is enough to make me switch to a new email service straight away. Forwarding emails and convenience and consitent email deliver are too important.

I'm having problems with gmail giving bounceback messages to people sending me emails, even though I'm receiving the emails. This is the second time this has happened in the last few months. It's, of course, causing people to stop emailing me because they think I'm not receiving their emails. The message they get is that my box is full, even though gmail shows that I'm only using 5% of my allotment. The tough part is, I have no idea where to complain about this to google. Don't know what to do.

Temporary error, server not available. (502) Havn't been able to access gmail for the past 36 hours so far. Hopefully my saved emails are still there. If I ever get back in, its so long gmail for me. This is rediculous.

I have the same problem as all of you above, both with IE7 and FF2 but only from Scotland, spent the last 2 month in Saudi and had no problems over there with either browser.

The link talks about logging in and then setting up pop3

They are having a laugh I think as all of us are having problems logging in to start with.

Same problems: For the past few weeks, gmail hung up when loaded from Firefox, giving me the option of opening only in basic html, which wouldn't even let me scroll down. I had to use Internet Explorer. But today, same problem cropped up on IE. Worse, in trying to sign on, I'm left signed into iGoogle and can't scroll down a page on that, either.

Deleting cookies and files, even several times, doesn't help at all. It's now seems apparent that it's a Google problem, not a browser problem, and getting an answer out of Google is impossible.

Does anyone know what's going on and how to get it fixed?

I am in Haiti and have the same problem since Monday night, when Gmail kick me out from the website and could not log back - I am using IE 7.0 and Firefox 2.0 with no proxy server setup (OS - Windows Vista Ultimate). I really think that the problem is from Gmail.

Lets try this again. I am having trouble with my gmail account as well. Can't get beyond the 'loading' phase. Just seems to keep cycling thru, trying to login.

But, when I attempt using Mozilla Firefox, I get in fine. Hmm, sounds like a problem with Internet explorer. Husband thinks its probably security settings, or something to do with compatability. Wonder how long this will go on for.

What the heck is wrong with Gmail? Google seems to be oblivious to the problems that we all are facing. I've been using Gmail since the launch date (July 2004) and am now dreadful of the fact that I may have to find an alternative...quickly.

I can't get past Loading Page and when I choose the Basic HTML views, it asks me to sign in again..but with no success. I use IE6 in all my computers and never had issues with gmail access earlier.

Same thing here. Gmail has been working fine up until yesterday. I thought it was because I switched to HughesNet Satellite, but it seems you are all having the same problem regardless of how you are connecting. i run a dula boot laptop XP and Linux. I have tried on the Linux side through Forefox and the Xp side through IE and Firefox. No luck. Sometimes I can get in using the full featured version, sometimes only HTML, Even when I do get in it;s iffy ig I can actually check mail. And now most of the time it just tries to load forever...

I did notice last week that i started having trouble with Gmail on my phone. Thought it was the service, but now I think it was the beginning of the problems.

My problems began after I recently (November 3, 2007) bought a new computer with Vista - I was with XP before and never had a problem. With Vista, using either IE7 or Firefox after signing in, the page loads but then immediately starts reloading and never stops reloading. As you all know, Gmail checks for new mail constantly so I am thinking it keeps checking but never gets to point of actually loading the page to see your messages.

I have to say that this does not happen all the time and seems to work much more often when I check email from the tool bar. However, each day I have to sign-in with Vista - with XP I downloaded Gmail and never looked back. It was there and I was signed in every time I turned on my computer for the day.

In summary, I believe the problem is a lack of compatibility between Vista and Gmail; I don't think browsers are the issue; and, I don't know whether it matters if it is the older or newer version.

I am in Florida and have only had sporadic success at logging into my gmail. Unfortunately I have already done quite a lot of business using that account.
I do not have Vista. Just as the person in Texas, I often cannot even get the page to load and instead get the "page not displayed" error.
I don't know what to do about it. Is there a way to contact google to get them to help?

for the last 3/4 weeks have not been able to access my gmail account using IE6. I get to the sign in page and submit my details. I get the opening page message and then .... nothing. page cannot be displayed. So i tried with mozilla. can log in and read my messages but cannot reply or open attachments.

I'm in the US (California). I've used gmail for nearly 2 years and had no problems. I've been having problems accessing my account for weeks now - I get the annoying & eternal "loading" message, and then my computer freezes. If it doesn't freeze, it takes a virtual eternity for anything to load.

Gmail is almost as annoying as hotmail now, but at least hotmail offers some semblance of customer service.

My gmail account acts up with the "This seems to be taking a long time" message. I do have the option of using the HTML version. I use dialup but that's been true since early this year. Only in the last month has this problem recurred. This week the account supposedly displayed in standard mode but the screen was reduced to the upper 1/16th corner of the screen with weird scroll bars. I went back to HTML mode.

I can access this account at work just fine. My next step will be to download a virus checker and run it to see if there's a virus problem.

On my case gmail keeps reloading and reloading. It does not allow me to click on any of the emails it just reloads. I have tried two different computers at two different locations and used IE7 and FireFox 2 THey all have the same issue.

Once I put my username and password I takes me to my mailbox and just keeps reloading every one or two second. I have left it alone thinking mayne it will stop reloading after awhile and when I came back three hours later the darn thing keept reloading itself.

I had this problem for the last three days and I just had it. I open another account with a different provider.

I would like to ask anyone outhere how I can transfer my contacts out of gmail.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this problem has been listed, but I am having quirky problems. Gmail has randomly dropped some people from my address book. I'm not sure how many but recently, I've noticed two missing that I have not deleted. Also, when I go to send an email and go to compose mail and start to type in a name, usually a list would come up that I could highlight from. Now, sometimes that happens, sometimes not. When it does happen, very often when I click on that name, only the first letter that I had typed will show up in the To box, not the name I highlighted. Recently, I made a group listing in my address book. I sent an email to the group but one person did not get it. When I checked my sent box, I noticed two of the names in the group were not sent the email.

However, yesterday, I found that when I tried to login my computer kept trying multiple times with no success.
I tried the suggested troubleshooting actions including deleting cookies and temp IT files.
Anything else I can try.
I am able to use Google for normal browsing and searches.

I have my gmail pge set as home page. When I turn it on and use IE, I can get into my mailbox. If I refresh, I get a blank page, I need to reboot to get back into gmail.

Using Netscape, I can get right into email with no problems including refreshing the page.

Looks like others are having the same issue. Might be IE.

AS ABOVE, I went to Internet Options under TOOLS and deleted my cookies, temp files , history and ALL came back to normal. Dont' know if you have to delete history but i did anyway.
Probably just the cookies and temp files would do it.

Somebodys update messed things up but this corrects it.

Same problem, however, I have noticed that the problem is only on two machines, and it works on the third one.
Two were patched with the latest patch from Microsoft, and these don't work.

It was working for a few moments when I cleared the whole history from my machine. Now, the trick does not work anymore.

There is one way I still can get an access to the emails.
it's through the igoogle page, the gmail gadget.
When I turn dislaying the latest emails on that page, I can click on them and read them.

It appears the problem is with IE, firefox or other browsers should be ok. Clearing cookies and history and cache may or may not help. It took several log on attempts after that for me to get in, fingers crossed it stays. but as I said, using another browser as backup is ideal. Problem is not so much with Gmail, although it is up to them to fix it!

Just wanted to say that I've had the blank screen problem with gmail for days and today I went (as suggested many times above) and cleared files and it immediately worked perfectly. Here are the steps: In your browser, go to Tools>Internet Options. Under Browsing History click Settings. Then click View Files. Then Ctrl+A and Delete all the files.
Works great.

It seems the problem may be with internet Explorer. I kept on getting the blank page, and then tried Mozilla, and it went right to gmail, no problem.

This happend to me when i got a microsoft update , i could not get into my gmail . i was able to use my other computer but today i started having the same problems and yes i did a update on that computer too. but there have been other problems like i am not able to upload to my web site using ftp or download. but then sometimes it will work then sometimes i can get into my gmail account. sometimes this and sometimes that. i think the problem is with the latest update we all got with xp or i think it was the security patch, there has been reports that yahoo email is having the same problems two. maybe i will try to delete the last xp update...

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm getting cookie messages in Firefox. Tells me to allow cookies on my browser...which already is. Happening in both 2.01 and 1.5 of Firefox, as well as my IE tab. Only happened since the last windows update. Pain in my ass, the whole thing.

I'm getting the blank screen as well - have been since yesterday. If I go to Google's homepage I am definitely logged in but I can't see my gmail homepage. I do have the Google toolbar with the GMail icon and the drop down arrow on this icon does allow me to see the subjects of my unread email messages. Once I select one of those subjects I can then open that message and read it. Not many other options besides reading the email but at least I can read them.

Hopefully Google will get this fixed quickly b/c I like their system.

I'm also getting the blank screen. But, it's only on my desktop. On my laptop, I can access gmail without any problems! Both are running Windows XP and Explorer. I haven't made any changes to my desktop, so I'm at a loss.

I too hope Google will figure this out soon as I love my gmail!!

In IE, if you go to Tools then Internet Options, on the general tab, under browsing history, click on the delete button (IE7). Then, under temporary internet files, click the delete button. When it is finished, click Close then Okay. Now try and open your gmail again. It should now work. This is a workaround I've been using. Hopefully they'll fix this soon, cuz I hate having to do this all the time.

Turns out deleting your browsing history is the solution to the BLANK page gmail problem. This is what gmail has to say about it on their help page:

Symptoms:
After clicking Sign in, a blank white page is shown. You may see "Loading..." or "This seems to be taking longer than usual."

Follow the instructions below in the order provided. If they don't resolve your issue, you'll have a chance to report the problem to Gmail.

Could someone please help me? Everytime I try to send an email, when I type in a name it comes up with their email , however when I click on it it won't go into the senders box. I'm having similar problems. I use an iMac with the latest Safari browser. Daily, I have to clear my cookies, reset safari, and restart my mac. Sometimes I have to do this twice a day to retrieve mail from gmail or hotmail accounts. I can receive mail but I can not open mail, or get into folders or use other features. This has been going on for a couple of weeks and I am getting tired of reporting to MSN and Apple. How does anyone notify gmail techs?

Simple outgoing messages are extremely slow. (No photos, attachments, etc.) Can be 10-15 min delay. Sometimes get reference to 451 4.3.0.
Is there a mail address to complain directly to gmail?

Since yesterday, after I enter user id and password, it shows "Loading ..." at the top-left corner of browser ( http://mail.google.com/mail/#inbox). I've deleted "all" in Internet Option, but the problem remains.

I am using Windows Vista Home Premium and IE 7.

I totally know NOTHING about computers. I can do email and that is about it. I had yahoo for 7 years and wanted another accout for work and tried the Gmail. I set it up last weekend (really proud of myself). This past Thurs, no mail coming in (VERY ODD) and after double checking w/ a friend my Gmail wasn't getting sent. My ex and I communicate about out kid via email and a faulty email is out of the question. NOT Acceptable. Changed back to Yahoo today. My email is doing the same as others. Someone has said to go into your cookies and delete then it should work. I have done that several times, same thing happened. So obviously this is happening to a lot of people. I have had Gmail for sometime and this has never happened before. Of course, I am on a new (not brand new, but fairly new) computer. Never has been on the internet until now. Has great ram & memory so that is not the problem either. I thought maybe something might not have been clicked or maybe clicked and shouldn't have been. But obviously that is not it either. I believe Google has to know about this or it wouldn't keep happening. Would be nice if they found out the problem.

Well, I managed somehow to figure out my problem. It was my pop up blocker. Thank goodness it worked. I was just experimenting with it and sure enough... Thought I would let you know how it turned out. Now if it keeps working, that will be even better.

When using mu gmail, I cannot use my capital key. It moves my cursor back to the subject box. This has been happening for the last 3 days. It is most annoying. I wonder if it has anything to do with message a got from a friend "gift from... and it takes you to Blubet site... and sends the message to all you correspondants.

Very annoying. Cannot access google or gmail from any browser since Friday (IE, Firefox, Safari.) Every once in a while I get lucky and get in - very inconsistent. Been about 4-5 days of problems with gmail. I never use chat but have a chat enabled error. Using old version helped for a short while but now that one has 102 errors also. Only half of some of my messages have been sent, parts of the message body are sometimes missing. Problems seemed to come on after latest MS updates and latest gmail beta. Most of the recent issues probably have to do with DNS issues or browser settings. Not that it helps folks with access at only 1 location, but most likely it is a case of your provider's DNS servers not being able to find the correct Google server. Attempting from a different location may help, if that is possible for you. Also since XP, Winders (don't know about OS X) does a lot of DNS caching, so it might be holding on to an old address. Google does a lot of load balancing and the ip addresses are constantly changing.
You can even attempt it from your cell phone

Firefox has less problems with Google's cookies & sessions.(Mozilla is far closer to a standards compliant browser than IE)
Give that a try before abandoning all hope.

I'm having trouble signing into Gmail on my PC running XP. It started about 4 days ago where just after signing on it goes into loading in the upper left had corner and either never comes up or times out. What's going on? Is Gmail or is it explorer. Occasionally after 30-60 minutes of trying, it might work miraculously.

I'm experiencing problems with getting to the log in page for gmail. This has ben going on for at least a week. I can get to the log on page no problems the first time I turn on my computer but if I log out and then log back in again I have problems. Gmail seems to have had another format change over the last couple of days.
I now notice that in my new format version contacts list I can only search a contact name, whereas before I could search for a word or comment I had listed in the 'notes' section of the contact list.
I have thousands of contacts that I have made searchable by common descriptions and phrases within the notes section, it now looks like this will be unuseable to me as a search method.
Have they somehow disabled a search of the notes section?

Since yesterday, I've also been getting the "Oops... the system encountered a problem (#102)" every time I try to send a message or open another folder other than the inbox. this is frustrating. I do have important emails I need to send or reply to. By the way, I'm from the Philippines.

I cannot get into my mail for the last 4 days. what's going on with Google. Or maybe MS is doing something nesty to us all since they failed to purchase Yahoo and cannot compete with Google.

May be too Google has lots of internal problem and do not care about small guys like us with eMail accounts.

Fortunately I have access to Gmal, I mean I manage to login and enter email box, but then once the Gmail box is opened everything is strongly delayed. I mean, I write but words appear on the screen with a delay of approx 1 min. which is unusual. has Anyone got this kind of problem?

Gmail is driving me crazy! I can log into iGoogle, but rarely my mailbox. I can log in perhaps twice daily, if that. I'm using Mac Safari in the U.S. Anyone with similar problems?

After you entered your username and password and hit enter, most of the time there will be a pop up saying " bla bla bla operation aborted " hit refresh until you are successfully logged in then just leave it open until you are done for the day.

I was unable to load my gmail inbox (kept saying loading and flashing etc..) I was using firefox and I found that going back to MCs internet explorer worked. Try changing explorers?

For the person above using FireFox, make sure you are using V2.0 (or later). According to Google, lower versions of FireFox are not "fully supported".

For others having trouble with the loading stalling, I would suggest just hitting <Shift> and the Refresh/Reload button. That has always worked for me.

Also, I would like to know if anyone has recently experienced issues with Google suggesting you may have too low a speed to display the page, and giving you an alternate 'Basic HTML' option, even though your bandwidth has not deteriorated?

I'm trying to help our client determine the source of the problem.

I also enter a continuous loop with loading appearing over and over again. It will load if I switch to Windows explorer. I use Firefox, Maybe I'll have to switch. It does offer the HTML option

I woke up yesterday and google.com server was down (can't find server error). I thought it was the end of the world. I went to work and it was working fine.
I get back home and my gmail account was working but google still wasn't. Then my gmail account returned the same error and is still returning the same error.
It is now day two of no google.com and gmail.com.
What is weird though is that the rest of their subdomains work:
maps.google.com, mars.google.com....

Update (as I wrote this all google services came back up)

I tried to load the gmail page to login to mail yesterday morning (Saturday 24th May) but it would not load. Have been trying at regular intervals since but I still have the same problem. Hurrah. Re. the continuous cycling problem that so many have reported with gmail: check your Time/Date setting for Windows. I had used the calendar to check a date for a trip and inadvertantly left it set on a future date. Once corrected, problem gone.

Hey, guys, when you load Gmail, at the bottom left corner of the screen you'll see an option to start the HTML shell. Click that and you should be able to access your mail w/o a problem. Hopefully.

This problem seems to come and go. When it appears I just change browsers.
The last couple of days I had trouble on Firefox 2.0.0.14, but I had no trouble using Safari. It must be the results of some class of bug that makes the browser reload the program.

I have a problem with gmail from last two weeks. It giving me an error message that is: "Parts of Gmail have failed to load due to an Internet connectivity problem. I use mozilla firefox and since last few weeks gmail has this strange problem where it loads the inbox but reloads it again and again seemingly never ending!! Its pretty frustrating... Its like some1 is hitting the refresh button over and over again. I can get it to load normally by clicking the html version but i would like to know how to get it to work in the normal mode...

iam able to view all other sites.

I have a problem getting all my gmail in my Windows mail POP3. I have used the same account and parameters, but at times it does not load. I can access all my mail through Mozilla and have enabled POP and " leave message on server"
I had used a suggestion of adding "recent"to my name in the setting of my mail account and all the mail was loaded. But it has disappeared and I can't remember the exact details. Does anyone know??

"Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage" seems to be pretty common. for almost a week I've been performing full system scans, un-installing, re-installing, enabling and disabling. Cannot follow link to gmail, mostly can't search with Google using IE7 and XP, but my old laptop (ME) on the same connection accesses gmail just fine.... Seems like a well-hidden malicious program... Lately, gmail has become unbearably slow in loading the pages, opening emails and basic navigation throughout the mailbox. This slowness then effects other tabs open in the browser and doesnt allow to navigate to another page until each command is fully loaded in Gmail It would appear to be a speed connectivity issue, but is NOT after running a speed test, contacting provider, and logging in to the router. It's NOT a virus either. Gmail used to work just fine, I am experiencing this both on my home and work computer. Are there any known issues for Vista & Gmail? Try removing an extension in the web brower folder in the program files. Cleaning cookies and the cache was only a temp fix but removing the extension causing the problem was a perm fix.

When i tried connecting to gmail account using JavaMail API,
and tried getting message count (using pop3 protocol) it is not giving me the actual count.I had set pop settings properly.
I am sure thats not problem with API because the same works fine with other mail servers.

Hi, I read through the gmail problems but did not see this one. We run one laptop with XP & one with Vista. No problems with XP & Gmail. However, on the Vista laptop, the page is continually being redirected and page after new page (in new windows) opens. The only way to stop it is to do a CTRL/ALT/DEL.

Anyone else having this problem, and how did you fix it?
