Robert Scoble is thinking of organizing a Geek Camping get together for sometime in June or July down in Mount Rainier National Park It's camping for all the geekingly-inclined in the northwest. Sounds very cool. Other Vancouver bloggers who may attend are Boris Mann and Roland Tanglao. It should be a good time. Keep watching Robert's site for details ......
Hey gang!
Just wanted to drop you all a note and let you know that the move went well and we've got the cable all set up so the new place is wired.
All our stuff isn't here yet so we're living out of suitcases for now, but things are good. I started the new job and it's really cool so far, so things are good. We're still getting our bearings and such but in a few weeks we'll be up and running like normal.
The move is on it's way, all the cables are being unplugged and the gear is getting packed away. I'll be going dark for a few days. Next time I post will be in beautiful BC!
BTW, I checked out the Star Wars Episode III trailer. AWESOME. Very much looking forward to the movie.
While doing some brain dumping for my old job I happened upon an excellent resource for Windows internals type information. Microsoftie Calvin Hsia's blog has a number of posts related to topics like Memory Handles and Very Advanced Debugging tips. Don't let the references to Visual Fox Pro keep you away, alot of the information is relevant for Windows in general. Subscribed. Former Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lloyd Axeworthy writes in an open letter to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Ms. Rice canceled her scheduled trip in an apparent hissy fit over Canada's decision not to participate in the proposed missile defence program. Just chalk that up to a different sense of priorities about what a national government's role should be when there isn't a prevailing mood of manifest destiny. Coming to Ottawa might also expose you to a parliamentary system that ......
Steve Fossett is currently more than halfway around the world in his solo attempt to circumnavigate the globe. There are some concerns about a “missing“ 2,600 pounds of fuel and if Steve will be able to make it back to the airfield in Salina, Kansas. It's still unclear if the fuel is really missing or if there is a glitch with a fuel meter. He is currently over the Pacific ocean and heading toward Hawaii where a reassessment of the fuel situation will be conducted. He may have to abandon ......
Duncan Mackenzie posted about people asking how to obtain the IP address of your internet connection. He created a web service for this task including the VB code to access it. Here is my C# version of the code, 1. First you need to add a web reference to the web service IPInfo.asmx 2. And now the code (all prettied up for your easy perusal)... string myIPAddress; //Show Waitcursor while web service is being calledCursor.Current = Cursors.WaitCursor; //Create instance of web service and obtain IP ......
Well, it's official. As of March 14th or so Erika and I will no longer be Montrealers but will instead be Vancouverites!!! That's right, we're packing up our things and our cat and heading out west. The Pet Shop Boys made me do it with their incessant prodding, I swear. There are a few reasons for this move but it basically comes down to this. Before we really settle down, buy a house, have kids and all that we really wanted to make sure we're living in the place where we really want to be. In this ......
