Update: I forgot to mention that Wine Blogging Wednesday 4 was being sponsored by Derrick at An Obsession With Food. Here is his link to the summary of WBW4.

This is my first attempt at a Wine Blogging Wednesday and the topic of New World Riesling is right up my alley. For the past few years my wife and I have been enjoying the wines of the nearby Niagara Peninsula in Ontario. After a few visits to the area we have found that Jackson Triggs is easily our favourite winery and some of their best wines (besides their Gewurtzaminer wines) are the Rieslings.

Jackson Triggs Proprietor's Reserve
Dry Riesling 2003
Niagara Peninsula

Cost: ~$12.00 (purchased at Jackson Triggs in Niagara on the Lake)

Tasting Notes:
This light straw coloured wine has the exotic aromas of pineapple, grapefruit and apple. The first taste of the wine gave light pineapple, grapefruit and some lemon flavours with a little acidity and a slight aftertaste of lemon.

We enjoyed this wine with a meal of Camarones al Mojo de Ajo (Mexican Garlic Shrimp), white rice and black beans (recipe to follow). The earthy beans and garlic-lime shrimp opened the richness of the wine and increased the grapefruit in the wine. Also the acidity in the shrimp helped to balance and smooth out the acidity in the wine making it a pleasure to drink with this savory and slightly spicy dish.

Score: 3.5/5
