Permanent Resident
So Chipis and I went to meet with Immigration Canada yesterday and she got her permanent resident status! Woot! That means she will soon be covered by health care and also be able to work. Also, no more renewing the visitor's visa, so that's good. We're just waiting on the permanent resident card to come, so in the meantime I made up this one. Here you go baby ;-) .... Update: I guess since you have that card you might as well get the Medicare card too. Fear my mad MSPaint Skills ......

The Northeast Blackout of 2003 and Air Quality
I was just reading this excerpt from the American Institute of Physics concerning the difference in air quality during the time of the blackout of 2003. The massive Northeast blackout of a year ago not only shut off electricity for 50 million people in the US and Canada, but also shut off the pollution coming from fossil-fired turbogenerators in the Ohio Valley. In effect, the power outage was an inadvertent experiment for gauging atmospheric repose with the grid gone for the better part of the day. ......

Refactoring C# Code Using Visual Studio 2005
I just read this excellent article on Refactoring C# Code Using Visual Studio 2005 at MSDN. A recommended read for any C# developer. The tools for refactoring included in VS 2005 look great and will save me tons of time in cleaning up code. We also have lots more pics available and high resolution ones, so if you want to look at those drop me a note and I'll send you the link.

BTW, I plan to write up something about the wedding and the honeymoon trip shortly (with more pictures!) so look out for that.

The Importance of Speaking Clearly
Last week a co-worker who shall remain nameless (let's call him Goose) and I had gone out to lunch and on the way back I see someone parking in one of the executive parking spaces whom I did not recognize. As we entered the building Goose said hello to the exec, a mid 30-ish casually dressed guy. The exec said hello back and then went his own way as we headed back to our desks. When he was out of earshot I asked Goose “Who's that?“. He replied “I think it's the new CIO“. Now ......

The Summer of Fun©®
There's something about spending almost half the year freezing you but off that really makes Montrealers appreciate the summer. Fun outdoor activities abound in the city at this time of year. This year Chipis and I have been trying to enjoy as many of these activities as possible, it's our Summer of Fun©®. In fact, we've been having so much fun lately I haven't had time to blog it all, so here's a summary of the recent activities. 1. Shakespeare in the Park The plays are put on each year ......
