We had a bunch of fun this year at HDC.  Joseph, Dru, and I all travelled up to Omaha to do some podcasting.  This year we recorded shows with:

  • DonXML
  • Andrew Troelsen (Day 2 - Keynote Speaker)
  • Joe Olson & Phil Wolfe
  • Nick Parker & Tim Gifford
  • Joe Stagner (Day 1 - Keynote Speaker)
  • Dru Sellers & Jeff Julian (Our impressions of the Conference)

I will start publishing these over the next coming weeks as well as the remainder of the South Carolina Code Camp podcasts.

Last night, John and I recorded our first podcast after a 6 month break to form our consulting firm. Thom Robbins, Chris Williams, Don XML, Robin Edwards, and Brian Button joined us to discuss what is it to organize a code camp. The conversation was great and if you are thinking about volunteering for, speaking at, or organizing a code camp, this is the show for you.

John and I were interviewed by Microsoft's Michael J. Murphy on his show IT Heroes. In the first show, we talk about weblogging and our thoughts on the state of the blogosphere. Next week we will be discussing Podcasting. Enjoy.

Geeks With Blogs Part I

In this two parter we talk with Jeff Julian and John Alexander about blogging, podcasting and expoiting bleeding edge technology. Jeff and John are a couple of hard charging consultants for Visionpace, a Microsoft Partner http://www.visionpace.com. Jeff is also an XML MVP and John is a Microsoft Regional Director. If that doesn't keep them busy enough, they run www.GeekswithBlogs.net and are the hosts of the www.PodcastStudio.Net show, provided as a service to the Microsoft technology community as a whole.

Why is blogging important? Why should you care?  In this episode, we attempt to answer these and other weighty matters -- Join us, Won't you?

IT Heroes: Stories from the Trenches; these are the real stories of men and women in IT making a difference everyday. We talk with authors, innovators and implementers about emerging technologies, troubleshooting and remediation of common infrastructure issues and charitable contributions in the community.  We seek to educate and provide a forum for open discussion of the many uses for and specific ways in which people are everyday exploiting technology to create opportunities for themselves and others.

Episode 14 finds us in a great discussion with Billy Hollis on smart clients and Visual Studio 2005!! We talk about some simple and complex scenarios, the state of data binding and some useful tips and patterns. This wouldn't be complete without ending with some thoughts on how WinFx (Windows Presentation Foundation and Windows Workflow Foundation) fits in moving forward.

In this show, we talk with HDC speaker Phil Wolfe about the Composite UI Application Block, Portals, the switch to WinForms, and how we think articles will change with the release of .NET 2.0. This will be the last speaker we release from the HDC and next week we will publish Joe Olson who ran the event. Afterwards, it will be back to John and I and we have a lot to talk about, including some new goodies for recording.

It has just been brought to my attention from a co-worker that when you are using an iPod 3/4G and sync Podcasts, on the menu, the titles don't scroll like they do on the Nano. So when you look at Podcast Studio shows on these iPods, all you see is "Podcast Studio - Sho" and each show is that way. So for now on, we will release our shows as "Show 13 - Podcast Studio" instead of "Podcast Studio - Show 13". Hope this helps!

Since we have grow significantly in the amount of listeners we have, we have moved PodcastStudio.net to a different hosting provider to help with the bandwidth issues we have been facing. Hopefully, as DNS updates, you will see a significant download rate change and less download failures. Please comment if this is not accurate.

We have launched the start of our podcast series at the Heartland Developers Conference and the first show is with Craig Utley.  He is a such a great guy and this talk covers productivity, Visual Studio 2005 Team System, and design patterns.  The recording was a little noisy due to the fact we were recording in the lounge right before the keynote.

John and I have been in and out of town (PDC, MVP Summit, BizTalk Conference) this and last month so our podcasting has been lacking.  To make it up, Thursday we will be recording the speakers of the Heartland Developers Conference onsite and will have them published as soon as we can (day or so).  I will blog about who we are recording and if you are attending and have something to say, let me know and we will try to get you on our schedule.
