VS Startup

In light of a recent post by Tim Murphy here, i thought it might be a good time to tell those of you that don't see the RSS feed how to fix that problem

Simple follow the steps provided below:

Go to the tool menu

Select Options

Expand the "Environment" node

Click on the "Startup" node

Set the At Startup property to "Show Start Page"

Thats it and every time from now on you will be shown the news (RSS) of MSDN! It might also be good to note that if you ever have loading problems or it seems to hang every now and again it might be best to have it not show the MSDN news.

MRVGINA.dll

In my last post i explained how i managed to fix the welcome screen. The next morning i booted my PC up and was receiving a confusing message.

The Logon User Interface DLL MRVGINA.dll failed to load

All it allowed me to do was restart the computer and it would just occur again. After i took my mind off things and thought about it i realized i should open it up in Safe Mode. After getting in i realized i had no clue what i was meant to do so i done some research and came up with this simple solution.

1) Press F8 once you boot your PC up, until a screen comes up asking you what operating system you wish to load.

2) Press F8 once more and on the screen that appears highlight Safe Mode and press enter.

3) It should return back to the first screen, highlight Microsoft Windows XP Professional and press Enter.

4) Now login when prompted and just run this program by Doug Knox: www.dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/fix_xp_logon.htm

5) Restart your computer and you should be able to login normally.

WG111 NETGEAR Wireless Adapter issue

I recently configured my wireless adapter (WG111 NETGEAR) and after restarting my computer i realized my login screen and a couple of other user options were disabled, all that was available was a plain old black background with a dialog for login. Anyway after receiving a detailed email from NET GEAR support i discovered it was only a key in the registry that was messing it up

Here are the instructions i took to resolving this problem:

1) Delete the key GINAdll from the following registry path (in registry editor)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/Current Version/winlogon

2) After deleting it go to the Control panel ---> User Accounts ---> Change the way users log on or off
and make sure the welcome screen and fast user switching are both checked

That is all there was
