Hello,

Do this:

Install Communicator on an XP machine.

Copy Microsoft Office Comm. folder from XP machine's Program Files to your Vista PC.

Export the "Communicator" registry key from the XP machine under hklm\software\microsoft.

Import that into your Vista PC.

Now, run the communicator.msi on the Vista PC and it will finish the install

Finally, run Communicator on the Vista PC and it will repair itself and load up fine.

Found pretty much the same problem ...

MSOC worked well on a machine that I had upgraded from XPSP2, but not the straight installation ... found that by exporting the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Communicator registry set and then importing it into Vista was a solution ...

I was able to run the Communicator.MSI, and watch the system install, and then once the application was launched for the first time it configured correctly and adopted all the relevant GPO's ... I've also applied KB903928 which is a roll-up of ...
905158 - telephone calls are not forwarded
905159 - some of the audio controls are missing
905160 - a contact cannot be found in MSOC
909087 - a short delay is experienced before music or a voice is heard
911976 - the status indicator may be incorrectly displayed
913283 - you can copy and paste to transfer the contents of a file when a policy that disables file transfers is applied
913282 - MSOC may quit unexpectedly when it tries to retrieve the free/busy information from the Outlook Calendar

I'm going to attempt installation upon CTP5342 over the weekend ... will post if I find similar difficulties ..

I wonder if this would work for communicator mobile 2005 to be loaded on vista since it wants activesync, I made an admin install package and it did start to install but had a db error about 3/4 way done. I would assume this trick above would work...
