Geeks With Blogs
Random Musing Putting it together one piece at a time...

In case you do not know already, there is an excellent search engine that has been around for a very long time, overshadowed by Google and the recent The search engine is Clusty from Vivisimo. A colleague of mine sent me a mail entitled

"The most popular are not necessarily the best"

and in the email, he wrote I visited it, tried it a few times, and decided to switch back to Google.

Today, I decided to try it again and I'm glad I did. It's still pretty much the same engine and user interface I saw previously, except that instead of having the search page on, they have launched a website delicated to just search, with an interface similar to Google and Live's. Here's some brief description about the company

VivĂsimo was originally founded in 2000 by three Carnegie Mellon University scientists who decided to tackle the problem of information overload in web searches by developing new technology to organize unwieldy search results in a completely innovative way. They used a mathematical algorithm and deep linguistic knowledge to find relationships between search terms..."

Clusty features many features not found in Google and, in particularly the "Cluster" and "Preview" feature. When you search via Clusty, it will return a set of most likable results on a common page, and will have another set of results clustered in categories, hence reducing the time you need to research again. You will also be able to do a preview of the site before actually deciding to click on it.

I suggest you try it out for yourself.
