ItemCheckingOut Event, When To Turn Event Firing Off
When using the ItemCheckingOut event receiver to make changes to the item as it is being checked out, be careful, you could create a recursive call that will never stop. In my example, I had a document library that needed to have a column changed as the document was being checked out. As the document is being checked out I updated the meta data to change a “phase” column we used. However, because the document library is set that checkout must occur before changes can occur, your first attempt may ......

Spaces in SharePoint Fields
I have a site that needs to be deployed programmatically. It has multiple challenges. One challenge is that the site has columns, custom types, and lookup list. The issue is that the lookup list make use of a custom content type and other content types use the lookup list. This challenge makes it difficult to completely deployable from a feature. Another issue is that the client wants to make use of a document information panel, DIP. The problem I had… is when I tried to make a new DIP template, ......

A bit about me
This is a short post about me and what I do. Again, trying to keep it short as not to bore anyone. I have been coding for legit gigs for about 12 years and programming on my own for well over 15. I, like most developers, have a love-hate relationship that is rather unhealthy but I just can’t quit it. It’s this relationship that has driven me to write ......

First Post
This is my first post of many. My first few post may be short as I get a grip on how to fit this in with a full time job, continued education and my family.

Additionally, the next week or so I will be finding my way around the blog area and probably changing a few preferences on look and feel.

My next post I will talk a little about myself and my background as a SharePoint developer.
