Murray Gordon Flash a-ah! Savior of the universe...

Since all but one of the 7 Wonders of the (Ancient) World are gone* there’s an effort to come up with 7 new wonders. So take a peak and vote.

One day, you’ll say to your grandkids: “I told them to name that one of the Wonders of the World. That’s the kind of pull I used to have, kid. That’s right. Fo-shizzle.”

Trivia: Neushwanstein Castle will probably look familiar. It’s the inspiration for Sleeping Beauty’s castle at Disney Land.

*Extra lucky joy bonus points if you can name the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World. Answers below.

  1. The Pyramids at Giza (Egypt; is the Sphynx included in this?)
  2. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus (Turkey: earthquake took some, Crusaders Denisoviched the rest for a fortress)
  3. The Lighthouse at Alexandria (Egypt: There have been at least 3 of these on the same spot. Earthquakes, cannibalized for a fortress)
  4. The Colossus of Rhodes (Greece: earthquake, scrapped down)
  5. The Statue of Zeus at Olympia (Greece: moved to Constantinople, destroyed by fire and probably earthquakes and war)
  6. The Hanging Gardens of Babylon (Iraq: nobody knows for sure)
  7. The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus (Turkey: There have been about 5 of these on the same spot. It’s destruction is notable. Sometimes you hear about a guy named Herostratus whose fame was infamy. He wanted to be famous, so he burned down the temple. War, John of Antioch, possibly earthquakes, also.)

Judging by the cause of death of these things, perhaps the Transamerica building should be on the short list.

My votes (with one TBD): The Pyramids at Giza, The Great Wall of China, The Acropolis, Angkor, The Hagia Sophia (this thing has got history), The Roman Colosseum (“I did not know dat men could build such tings”).

I’m stuck between Neushwanstein Castle, The Pyramid at Chichen Itza (to be fair, the whole city should be included) and the Statue of Liberty.

Send me your list / suggestions for my TBD.

Take note: The Eiffel Tower? The Sydney Opera House? Christ Redeemer? Puhleeze.

Fun stuff for a Monday morning…

Actually it's kind of nice to be able to associate a face with some of this mindless crap.
