Nautical Terminology: Old Glory
Today is Flag Day in the United States. At Colors, my Commanding Officer read an appropriate story that I reproduce here for this day of honor. OLD GLORY This famous name was coined by Captain William Driver, a shipmaster of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1831. Florida has told everyone to be self-sufficient for 5-7 days while rescue crews work to save the sick, infirm, elderly and stupid (we have lots of all four). Previously, we were told to be able to hold out for three days. I have patched my stucco cracks again this year to help keep out the wind driven water. My storm shutters are standing by. The generator is ......
