Recently, I just noticed that Oracle has released Instance Client which is a new component which allows the applications to connect to Oracle Database server without going through pains in installing Oracle Client, configure Oracle Home, yada yada. It is pretty small (200-600k) and will work with ODBC, JDBC. This will improve the availability of clients that can connect to Oracle Database server.
