Vista

My personal laptop is a Dell Inspiron XPS (It’s a first generation and pretty much a piece of crap by the way) with a 60 gig hard-drive which is almost completely full (less than 10%). The Windows defrag tool was useless because the drive was so full. Being a MVP has some perks. One of those is that I get lots of software for free. I remembered that I had seen a product called Diskeeper on the private MVP newsgroups and thought I would give it a try. I was amazed! First, the limited space did not...

I just got an update to my Windows Vista Ultimate that included something I had not seen before, Windows DreamScene.á Curious, I went and did someálooking on the web.á What I found out is that I can make the background of my desktop a video!áThe update that I just installed included several stock videos that are pretty neat.á Just another reason why I love Vista! Happy Coding

If you have ever needed to create a document and include a screen shot (like a blog post for example...), you know that Windows does notáprovide aágood way to do this.á Vista solves this by providing a new tool called the Snipping Tool.á Located under the Accessories menu, you can use the Snipping Tool to capture all or part of the screen.á This is much better than ALT + PrtScn and then opening Paint (no offense to you Paint bigots out there). Happy Coding

I setup a new wireless network at home as Santa saw fit to bring me a new wireless router from Christmas.á In the process of setting it up, I stumbled across a very cool feature of Vista networking.á If you open the Network menu option from the Start menu you will see something like this. If you right click on the Residential Gateway icon you will see a menu option called "View device webpage."á Selecting this will take you to the admin site for your router.á Not a ground shaking feature to be sure,...

Let me preface this post be saying that I do a lot of presentations of VSTS and other products.á I installed Vista Beta 2 a while ago and I had to remove it because VPC would not run very well.á I found out last week that VPC 2007 Beta was available and decided to go ahead and give it a try (what's an hour Ghosting between friends?).áWhen I installed Vista I was amazed at the progress the installation had made.ááMy plan was to install WindowsáXP and then upgrade to Vista as I had doneáwith the Beta...

I took the plunge on Saturday and installed Vista Beta 2 and Office 2007 Beta 2.á I am fairly impressed with Vista so far.á The 3D flip is prettyáfreaking cool and I love having the ability to type in the name of an executable in the start menu.áI have gotten a few errors and it does not seem to remember what you have open on the desktop when it goes into hibernate mode, but other than that it is working fine.á I also notice that browsing on the internet and changing OS settings are way more secure.á...
