Last week was the debut of MVP TV. The idea behind MVP TV is to use Live Meeting to allow for a lot of user interaction with the presenter and create a recording for others to view. The presenter last week was Team System MVP Steve Andrews. Steve covered Team Build 2008 and MSBuild 3.5. I lurked for a bit to get an idea since I think I am the next one to present. Check it out when you have a chance. Happy Coding...

So if you are like me and you can't live without Hyper-V, then there are some things you miss going to Windows 2008 and using it as your desktop. I was searching for a tool that would allow me to use LiveWriter on 2008 today and I came across an awesome website. Basically, this site has all of the things you need. In addition, there is a tool that allows you do all of the hacks and edits you need without doing all of the leg work. Freaking amazing. Happy Coding...

One of my first Windows applications was an Access 2.0 database. Man has Access changed since then! Recently one of my customers needed to be able to source control some of their Access 2003 database. I knew about the MSSCCI provider for TFS, but I had not used if for Access before. Here is what I did to get this working: Installed the Access source control Add-in Installed the Office 2003 SP 3 Installed KB 945674 (this fixes a problem with source control) Installed the TFS MSSCCI provider Once everything...

My personal laptop is a Dell Inspiron XPS (It’s a first generation and pretty much a piece of crap by the way) with a 60 gig hard-drive which is almost completely full (less than 10%). The Windows defrag tool was useless because the drive was so full. Being a MVP has some perks. One of those is that I get lots of software for free. I remembered that I had seen a product called Diskeeper on the private MVP newsgroups and thought I would give it a try. I was amazed! First, the limited space did not...

I ran into an issue with SP 1 for Visual Studio 2005. I installed the service pack before I installed Team Explorer. I installed Team Explorer today and when I connected to my Team Foundation Server I got errors doing some simple source control operations (checking in). I just re-installed the service pack again and it fixed my problem. Happy Coding

Sorry that I have not blogged in a while.á I have been working on the VSTS TS Certification and it has taken all of my extra time! If you have a common library that is used in more than one project you may be wondering about the best way to set this up in TFS.á This is more of an urgent issue if you are using Team Foundation Build.ááThe issue comes when you have a common projectáthat may be in either another Team Project or at a level in TFS Version Control that is not relative to the project that...

I ran across an interesting issue recently and I wanted to share the solution.á I am currently working on a fairly large project.á We have had a turbulent start and I was not able to baseline my project plan before my developers began working on their tasks.á I knew that from a schedule standpoint we were hosed, but other Earned Value calculations should still be ok.á I baselined my project plan but discovered an issue.á When I refereshed my project plan from TFS, all of the baselines were wiped...

We ran into an interesting issue with the Merge tool for TFS Source Control and McAfee. None of the buttons were showing when the Merge tool was displayed. To say the least, this made merging difficult. What we discovered is that in version 8.0i McAfee's Buffer Overrun Protection messes with the Merge tool (I believe 2003 was also affected but I am not sure which features). If you come across this, disable McAfee or uninstall it and see if the issue goes away. If it does you can patch your local...
