I'm not one to follow elections and all the hype extremely closely, but with my near feature leading me to live in the states (Microsoft is situated in a democratic country) I found myself quite into this past American presidential election.  It is quite interesting to see how the states are aligned by political party in terms of geographic location: Polictical party by state

Kerry owns the west - Washington, Oregon, and California all went Kerry and furthermore within each of those states only the western half of each had a strong democratic vote while the eastern half was Bush.  What is it about the Western tip of the US that drives the democratic strong hold there?

Kerry owns the north east - Is it not interesting to see that the areas most likely to be directly affected by the attacks on September 11th are democratic?

As for me, I'm not sold on either of them :).
