Twin Cities Code Camp and Richard Simmons?
What the heck do those two have in common? On Friday I arrived at the Charleston, SC airport all set to fly out to Chris' house for code camp. Having just gone through the TSA security line and in the process of collecting all my stuff and re-packing I heard a voice off behind me that sounded familiar. Being from the Charleston area I turned around figuring I might know the person and say "hi" but imagine my surprise when instead I turned around to see this guy: (ok the picture is pretty bad - I've ......

Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 Team Suite - my first look...
So I finally got the time to sit down with a copy of Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2 and got it installed on my test rig. Here's how it all went down... I did a custom install this first time around - no Visual C++, and none of the SQL Compact or Crystal Reports stuff. I was certain to include the new Code Analysis, Performance and Testing tools though. I've heard some interesting things about the way those tools have improved with VS 2008 and am anxious to try them out. I'm also pretty anxious to try ......

4 Code Camps in 4 Weeks
Today marks the 3rd Saturday in a row I've gotten up before the crack of dawn to head out for a Code Camp :) I started on October 6th - driving up to Richmond for Richmond Code Camp 4. Last weekend I didn't have a long drive, but since I was helping to organize and set up SC Code Camp 3.0 I showed up by 6AM. This morning I got on the road by 5AM so I could make it to Charlotte Code camp. I'm scheduled to give a presentation on Code Analysis using Visual Studio Team System later this morning and I'm ......

Move Slowly – as long as there are no weapons or severed heads in the car we’re OK.
In an earlier post I mentioned a relatively uneventful 6+ hour drive from Charleston, SC to Richmond, VA for the Richmond Code Camp this past weekend. Having left my house in the wee hours of the morning and encountering very little traffic along most of my route I was pretty ready to just get to the event and get out of my car as I was pulling in toward Richmond. It was daylight and there was more morning traffic on the road. Having travelled up most of I-95 at a steady 70-75 MPH (the posted speed ......

Richmond Code Camp
Many thanks to all the folks who pulled together to bring us Richmond Code Camp 4! I drove up from Charleston, SC leaving home at 3AM to make the drive up to Richmond. It was mostly uneventful until I was pulled over by a VA State Trooper just 20 minutes outside of Richmond (more about that in a later blog post). I actually arrived there shortly after the first sessions began, but just a little too late to help them out by speaking since some of their scheduled speakers weren’t able to make it on ......

SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 clustered together...can it be done?
And equally important - is it recommended? Has anyone else out there successfully clustered SQL 2000/2005 together? I've seen stuff out there that says it works and other stuff that says it doesn't. I'm actually about to scrape up some hardware to try it out because the topic came up at work, just wanted some additional insight before making that plunge. The end result we're after is to have an Active/Passive Windows 2003 cluster that has a SQL 2000 instance and a SQL 2005 instance on it...more to ......

Interested in Speaking at a Code Camp?
SC Code Camp 3.0 still has some open slots for speakers - if you've never been to Charleston, SC before it's pretty nice this time of year! We are looking for one-hour sessions, with 10 minutes of question and answer. We want to see more code than PowerPoint slides. We want to see your passion. Download the Speaker Submission Form, fill it out and send it to us via gcnug1@gmail.com ......
