OK so I was a good boy - I actually went over Microsoft KB Artcle 928957 prior to installing SP1 for VS2005. I took note of where it said...(to quote)
Service pack installation takes longer than the original product installation:
Installing Visual Studio 2005 SP1 takes longer than installing the original release version because the SP1 installation is much like a product installation, but with additional installation tasks. Installation time depends on which product is installed and the computer’s configuration.
...but come on now...I started the install (on my other workstation) at 8:55 PM (EST) and it was a full 10 minutes later before I even got to the screen that asking if I wanted to install it and then accepting the EULA...and here it is now 9:45 PM (EST) as I start to write this blog entry and it's still going. What's up with that? Anyone else experience similar issues? Did I possibly do something wrong?
I turned off the Real-Time virus scanning, disconnected from the network and also made sure that I hadn't run Visual Studio for at least an hour before it was run (I remember reading a note that the installer couldn't start until after the debugger exited completely) so I'm not sure if I missed something or if this is just "expected behavior"
I can only imagine how long it's going to take when I go to install the SP on the Virtual PC image I have for Team Foundation Server and the other for Visual Studio Team Edition for Developers....yikes!
***Update*** Finally - 9:53 PM (EST) the install finished. I'm still not sure if it was supposed to take that long or not...I'll go ahead and update the VPC's tomorrow.
Has anyone else had a really long install time?
