Desert Code Camp 3 Stats

We had an amazing time out at camp last weekend.  I was pretty exhausted afterwards, but I'm finally caught up with sleep, and pretty well on top of everything else going on in my life.  So now I have a moment to take a look at some of the results.  All in all we had 380 people attend on Saturday, and 95 on Sunday.  Thanks to all who came out to be a part of it.  And thanks especially to the 56 dedicated presenters who prepared 90 excellent sessions of content!

We had quite a variety of different technologies represented.  For the 306 people that clicked into the final confirmation page, we had asked them what they were interested in out of this list of technology:

ASP.NET Linux PHP
Java AJAX / Javascript REST
Perl Cold Fusion Python
Assembler SQL-92 Silverlight
Ruby Flash / Flex / AIR

People could choose as many as they wanted, and to be able to better visualize the results, I wrote a SELECT with a bunch of aggregating subqueries to correlate all the responses.  Here is the output of that SELECT, a chart showing both how many votes each choice had received (highlighted in blue), and a correlation of each choice against each other choice.  So for instance, 41 people said they were interested in Perl.  And of those, 32 are also interested in Linux.  Or of the 101 people interested in Java, 36 of those are also interested in Ruby.

I'm delighted to see that there is such a broad mix of interests at camp.  I think this diversity is one of the things that sets our camp apart from other events around the nation.  To have such support is a testament to all the dedicated technologists out here in this "Silicon Desert".

So what do you folks think about having round 4 of Desert Code Camp in April or May?

Lorin,

Many congrats for conducting such a successful event. Are there any plans of publishing the presentations or even the URL to the blogs of the presenters some where? There were few classes that I was really interested in but wasn't able to attend due overlaps. 9/28/2007 5:59 AM | KnightCoder
