No PDC happening this October: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/... Perhaps the new stuff isn't quite ready for a broader beta. But heck, there's so much great new stuff that's just been released or will be released in Orcas that I've definitely got enough to play with for the next year or so! Means I can go and catch the Maker Faire in Austin. I took my son out to the one in San Mateo this past weekend and it was an absolute riot! Highly recommended ......

Whoa, GWB doesn't allow "cmd . exe" anywhere in a post!

If you take out the spaces then it won't post: cmd . exe

When you try to post it waits for about 20 seconds, and then comes up with no response.  Spooky because meanwhile the server is probably in limbo chasing its tail out there somewhere.

Microsoft brought FPSE back. Will VS2003 work in Vista now?
Some Sharepoint and Front Page folks will no doubt be rejoicing over a beta that was quietly released last Tuesday afternoon. Front Page Server Extensions are now available for Vista and Longorn Server. I thought that perhaps this could open the door to developing ASP.NET 1.1 apps on Vista using Visual Studio 2003, so I decided to do a quick test. You see, VS2005 is very versatile as to how it can open webs, but when Visual Studio 2003 opens a web site, it can only use FPSE. And the lack of FPSE ......

What's wrong with Windows Mail Live (aka Hotmail)
Peter Stathakos posted yesterday about Gmail, and I thought I'd continue the discussion about Windows Hotmail Live (or whatever it's now called). Since you get to it from the URL mail.live.com, I always think of it as "Windows Mail Live" so I can type the right URL. It's definitely been improving over the past few months, especially in terms of speed. And I think the bug in IE7 with multiple windows popping up has now been fixed. But compared with GMail I find it lacking. Here's the stuff ordered ......
