Toshiba HD-DVD player firmware on USB - the pinout is standard!

In my last post, I tore into a new Toshiba HD-A1 to see what interesting discoveries could be had.  I must say that the post was more popular than I ever thought it would be!  Thank you to the over 25000 people who stopped in to take a look, and also a big thanks out to the various news sites that had linked to it in their articles.  It looks like the world really is interested in high definition, which thrills me to no end.

In our last episode I had postulated that the daughtercard was basically a USB flash disk, and could be directly plugged into the USB connector on a standard desktop style motherboard.  I was able to find a PDF showing the pinout of the M-Systems daughtercard, and after comparing that with a standard pinout shown in the picture at the left, it looks like everything matches up.  While it will be easy to test once I have the hardware in front of me, I'm in a plane at O'Hare just about to taxi, heading down to New Orleans, and I won't be around a desktop PC until tomorrow morning at the earliest.  Sometime tomorrow I expect to be able to blog what I can find regarding the only part from the HD-A1 that I took along on this trip: the USB daughter card.  Stay tuned!
