TechDays 08: Talked about WPF and now back home

The Swiss edition of the TechDays 2008 is over. It was a great success, many people came, and as far as I can say, people had a good time. I didn't attend any sessions though, because I hung out in the main area instead and met a number of people (some of them I knew from MIX or other occasions), and talked talked talked. Yesterday evening, there was a party, I didn't stay too late though because I wanted to be well rested for my talk this morning.

My talk titled "Siemens goes WPF, Lessons learned" went great. It was in the first slot of the day, starting at 9. Many people came (I didn't count, but the room was 90% full, I'd say). People even laughed at my lame jokes (since no designers came to the session, I was free to joke about them, bwahaha :) Seriously, I regretted that no designers attended, but it's not very surprising. TechDays are rather developer-oriented (something I hope will change in the future, and Microsoft will open up and invite more designers soon).

I had a lot of positive feedback after the session, but if any of you who saw me want to comment more (and I definitely accept negative comments, don't be shy), feel free to use the feedback or to email me.

Thanks to all who attended, and thanks for the nice words!

Hi Laurent!

Thanks for the session today! I really enjoied it! Until today I was a little bit sceptic about starting with WPF but after your session I can't wait starting my own WPF application. Thanks also for providing the demo apps on your page! This will help a lot!
Jonas

Hi Jonas,

Thanks for your comment. I am really happy to share some of my passion for WPF!

The slides, demo code and (hopefully) the recording of the session should be posted on the TechDays webpage in the beginning of next week. I will post here when it's the case, stay posted.

Thanks!
Laurent

I did not attend your conference, but would have like ! Waiting for the links you will post about this session.

If there were no designers, maybe it's because this kind of people doesn't exist (yet) ? ;) Or because David Vincent is the only one who has seen some of them ? :) (oops sorry ;))

Hi Pierre,

Designers do exist, I met them! I can attest that they, in fact, live and breathe and, yes, they design too. They just don't attend technical conferences (yet). I hope that will change soon! MIX is a good start, but we need more occasions to mix and mingle and learn to talk designerish.

Greetings,
Laurent

Hi,

As is usual at conferences, there is always one or two presentations that make the committment worthwhile and for me this was definitely your session

Your content pitched exactly at my requirements and having the opportunity to chat to you after the event, on such topics as System.Addin and MVVM was really useful.

All I need now is access to your slides so as I am eager to get into your MVVM / test pattern you presented. DO you know when they will be released?

In the meantime I will sniff around your blog
to see if I can find what I look for.

KInd regards

Steve

Hi Steve,

Very happy to have helped, and I also had a good time talking to you. As far as I know, the slides and the demo are going to be published on the TechDays website in the beginning of next week. I will report here when that's the case.

Looking forward to seeing you again maybe!

Laurent
