Sharepoint Themes for WSS 3.0
A 'few' years ago I blogged about Themes for WSS 2.0, well there's now a theme pack for MOSS/WSS3.0. I'll try them soon on my SharePoint environment when I'm less busy and will post screenshots here... Direct download link from Microsoft as an MSI file: Also available as a WSP file curtesy of Daniel Brown: ......

PerformancePoint as a service in SharePoint
The downturn in the economy has brought about many bad news but I was pleased to hear that PPS is now going to become another service in Office 14 SharePoint. I had never liked Performance Point Server as a standalone product as I thought it was Microsoft's way of trying to generate extra revenue out of the near saturated BI - Information worker product range. http://performancepointinsi... ......

SharePoint and Hyper-V
Michael Watson a Microsoft Architect and SharePoint best practices expert posted a useful link to a TechNet article on using SharePoint with Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V virtualization. Recommendations specific to SharePoint are provided, such as not to take snapshots of virtual servers that are connected to a server farm. Detach the server from the farm first before taking any snapshot of the server. This is to avoid timer and search services from getting out of sync. Using SharePoint Products and ......

Unified Communications using RoundTable, SharePoint and Office
The following video is an excellent showcase of Microsoft Unified Communications Technologies using RoundTable, Office Communications Server 2007, Exchange 2007, SharePoint and Office integration. Victoria and Rachna did a great job at demonstating all these technologies without a single technical hitch, if only all demos were like these outside Microsoft ;) World Cup Demo Winner ......

Adding hyperlink and folders to links list in onet.xml using CAML
Often you may want to create predefined html links in your SharePoint site along with your custom site definition. An example of this is the initial announcement you always get when you create a new team site: "Get Started with Windows SharePoint Services!". Creating items in Announcements list in the onet.xml file is pretty straight forward but to create html links in a links list you would have to use the following format: <Field Type="URL" Name="URL">http://<ur... ......

External Storing of Binary Large Objects (BLOBs) in MOSS
An update to my previous post on storing SQL BLOBs in SharePoint. Since MOSS SP1 it seems that you can do this in a supported way by implementing the ISPExternalBinaryProvider COM Interface. More info can be found in the WSS SDK. Limitations around using BLOB store provider (EBS) should be noted. Thanks to Itay for blogging about this! More info on EBS: ......

Gantt Chart Web Part for MOSS
This is an update to my previous post on Gantt chart web part by Teun. WSS 3.0 version of this web part can be found here. Although MOSS has an out of the box Gantt view for lists as can be seen below the SharePoint Gantt view is bloated compared to the Gantt chart web part. Not only do you get the nice rounded corners for the chart but it will pick up Group by settings of the tasks list and display a black container around the grouped tasks. Many people have reported problems activating this web ......

Using SharePoint to search SQL BLOB Data
Donn Felker has wrote a good step-by-step article on how to access and search SQL BLOB Data from MOSS 2007. SharePoint can already search Office file formats stored in the database, this article can be used as a starting point for developing a separate database that hosts binary data readable by SharePoint. In large enterprises there is always a need to put in SLAs for various data contents, it is good practice to have a separate database containing BLOBs that could amount to significant storage ......

MOSS Event Log Viewer Removed
It seems that the web based eventlog viewer have been taken out of SharePoint Central Admin in MOSS RTM as the EventLog.aspx page is missing. It is a shame as I find it useful to see the last 25 event log message output with their full description on a single page. It is annoying when you have to click on each individual Event to see their description in Windows Event Viewer, the up/down arrow doesn't help much either since after clicking a number of times you tend to forget what the description ......
