Microsoft
Windows 8 a fitting competitor for the Apple iPad iOS
Although Android tablets have been gaining increasing market share, they are still not as popular as the iPad, could Microsoft challenge the tablet market with their new OS Windows 8? It certainly looks very likely, Microsoft have always had success with successive operating systems after a major revamp, take Windows Vista and Windows 7 as an example, the latter builds on the success or rather the failure of the previous OS. Windows 8 looks to establish itself as the OS of choice for tablets by building ......

Windows 8 on ARM
It's refreshing to hear Microsoft is branching out their OS to the ARM platform, this could lead to new breeds of programming languages for developing business applications which currently is dominated by the .NET languages. Considering that Windows Phone 7 already runs on ARM and have been quite successful since its launch, I can see Windows OS following suit and becoming more prevalent on portable devices such as tablets. I'm expecting an early alpha or beta version of the Windows x86 port to ARM ......

Windows Mobile with G-Sensor / accelerometer / tilt sensor
Games that work by tilting your phone and require no buttons to be pressed are highly addictive, for example Resco Bubbles, a game that requires you to move your phone around to control a ball on the screen. To play these type of games, your phone must have a G sensor built-in, listed below are some of the popular phones with Accelerometer: HTC Touch HD Samsung i900 Omnia HTC Touch Diamond HTC Touch Pro HTC Touch Diamond 2 HTC Touch Pro 2 Samsung Omnia II (I8000) Must have apps ;) HTC Light Saber ......

Windows 7: Windows XP Mode aka VPC on Steroids
XPMode(XPM) for Windows7 came as quite a surprise as this feature wasn't available in the Beta stages of the Windows 7 releases. This secret feature wasn't officially announced until earlier this week when Windows 7 RC became available for MSDN subscribers (read in more details here: http://www.microsoft.com/pr... So what is XP Mode in Windows 7? The following Microsoft Video summarise quite nicely this new feature in Win7: XP Mode will encourage a lot of ......

PIM Outlook contacts syncing with Sony Ericsson mobile phone contacts
I'm sure I can't be the only one who had problems trying to sync up my contacts between a Sony Ericsson mobile phone and a Windows Mobile based phone. The following are some of the PIM programs I've tried and I can report that the latest version of Sony Ericsson PC Suite now supports syncing your contacts to Microsoft Outlook! I'm pretty sure this is a recent feature addition as I have used the Sony Ericsson PC Suite before and never saw the syncing to Outlook option. PIM Outlook contacts management: ......

Develop your own Augmented Reality application with Touchless
I came across this InfoWorld news article today on an open source SDK for creating multi-touch based applications using a webcam for input. Wouldn't it be cool to have this kind of application to work on your mobile phone with the built-in camera? I have played a couple of proprietary games on the mobile phone that have this kind of capability, it's nice that Microsoft CodePlex is making touchless SDK accessible to the masses. Get the SDK here: www.codeplex.com/touchless ......
