You know, I've tried my best to not make any political posts during this election season since I know you don't read this blog for political commentary. However, this morning, I can't help myself.

Is our country more selfish now than it has ever been? I, for one, am glad that Kerry unofficially conceded the race this morning (according to CNN). I personally believe it is the classy thing to do. Now, I am a Kerry supporter. I voted for Kerry, and I wanted Kerry to win. But, at this point, I personally think that mathematically, it would take a near miracle for him to win (or serious action from serious lawyers). Bringing lawyers into the mix and dragging this out will not bring anything good to the table. In my personal opinion, all it would achieve at this point is to drag America through the mud.

Now, I'm saying this because I know other Kerry supporters are rather annoyed that he conceded this early, especially with Ohio still counting. However, what's done is done. Even though I don't really care for W as a president, the fact remains that the popular vote shows that more than 50% of the country feels he is a good president. So, at this time, I think the best thing that all of us on the “losing side” can do is get behind our president. In my belief, a divided America is a weaker America. Does that mean that we shouldn't protest about situations that we feel aren't in our best interest? Absolutely not. That's the beauty of living in a free country. However, I don't want to have to listen to people bitching for the next four years about W being an illegitimate president.

This time around, he won fair and square. Good for him, I say. Now that the race has been conceded, it is time for all Americans to unite and support our new government. How 'bout we all take the high road for once in our life, yes?

*VERY* well spoken Jason. I'm sorry your fella didn't win, but 'we' will work hard to make it worth your while.

No, I think the popular vote shows that 52% of the country prefers him to Kerry et al, not that he is a good president.

I agree with the concession. It was the right thing to do. Now let's hope that the lawyers don't get going.

BTW, I voted for Kerry too.

Thanks! I was just a little annoyed that's all. Even though I didn't vote for W, the fact is that we live in a democracy, and in that sense, I'm glad that finally the man who won the popular vote won the election. Even if it wasn't the guy I voted for :P. :D

Well, even if it just means that they simply prefer W to Kerry, it still means that the majority in the popular vote will get their way, and for that I'm glad.

Even if the lawyers do go mad, at least Kerry conceded and isn't drawing it out at all. I personally now don't give a rat's butt about the whole possible lawyer situation since the race was conceded. At this point, it is purely academic. Whether the lawyers find something or not, the fact is (I believe) that they won't find enough problems to question the margin of Bush in the popular vote. Thank goodness.

Oh, and btw, Kerry did a fabulous exit speech and deserves a compliment just for that. I'm sure that wasn't easy after the last six months of campaigning, but he did sound sincere.

See you at the next PND!
