If you want to use .NET on Mindstorm you can also use VisualStorms (http://dotnet.di.unipi.it/) that allows you to translate MSIL into bytecode of Lego brick. In this case you avoid having to flash the brick to change VM...

There are a couple of other options out now for using .NET on the RCX. Or use something like the JCX for more power/inputs/outputs.
