[Crosspost from Managed World] I haven't been able to do much lately because I've been fighting off a cold (to the point where I've had to take time off from work (which I _hate_ doing)). There hasn't been much progress writing code as I've been busy playing around with Blender. I've been working through tutorials and such to get up to speed with it (so that I can at least put _some_ of my own models in the game (no matter how crappy they may be)). The verdict so far? I like it. When working through...
[Crosspost from Managed World] Well, it's certainly been a while since I made one of these types of posts. But, it's important for me to get back on the wagon, so here we go :). For those of us who are new here or haven't heard me talk much about Tanks, let me give you the quick five second intro to what it is. Tanks is a simple game that I'm developing that is single player (at least for now as I might dig into making it multiplayer in one of my future articles). Think of it as a 3d version of the...
[Crosspost from Managed World] Benjamin Nitschke made an announcement today that the English versions of the video tutorials for Rocket Commander have now been released on the Coding4Fun website over at MSDN. The website says each video tutorial is 40 minutes. There are ten tutorials, so we are looking at possibly 400 minutes of video tutorials on game programming if the numbers are correct :). So, well, take a day off of work (or two) and enjoy the tutorials :). I've been waiting for this since...
What is up? Not much by the looks of it. I'm finally starting to go out and dig up the various game engines written in .NET that I can leverage in the project I'm revisiting (as I'm not really in the mood to reinvent a wheel that has already been re-invented like a hundred million billion times by various college students out there (here's a theory: I think there are more game engine projects out there than hamburgers McDonald's has sold in the entire history of their company)). So, what did I find?...
What I have found in my vast experience of experimentation and failure is that I don't have a single bone in my body that can draw anything. Sure, I'm a master at stick figures, but my skill isn't even to the level to allow me to do masterpieces of modern art like Rory does. Since I've been working on a 2d tile-based game engine, I have found that I long to have any sort of drawing skills. In that vein, I came across some really good links if you are at all interested in pixel art or arcade-like...
Hello, all my faithful readers. I just wanted to say that now that the DirectX Summer Update has been released, expect to see some progress again on the game development series I am doing. However, I have a question to pose to all of you who have been following the series (those who haven't may stop reading now). Should I continue with the current game or shall I change to a Mario-style side-scrolling game? First an explanation is in order, methinks. I believe that using the current game is potentially...
I know I have been away from the blogosphere quite a bit in the last couple of weeks. I just thought I would let you all know what's been going on (I'm sure only a couple of you really care). Well, my wife and I bought our first house and officially moved in last Saturday. Unfortunately, on the same day we were moving in, I was informed that my grandfather had passed away. That hit me pretty hard because my grandfather was the only other serious musician in my entire extended family. Music was a...
