In Word 2007 french version we have the same BUG with cliparts and images objets.
For an output .doc, we have also an end page extra control character that jump from one page to the next resulting a vertical shift of text only.

Yep found this bug as well, you don't need office 2003 to solve it though, just save the document as 2003 compatible .doc and then print from Word 2007, works fine.

I am still having problems printing booklet in Word 2007, tho I saved as 2003 compatible. It is formatted as landscape, but prints as portrait. It reduces text and prints two pages, but on top half of portrait page. Back side of page is also on top half, and is upside down! Can somebody PLEASE help me?! I'm going nuts trying to figure this out, and I'm running out of time...and patience.

I am having similar problems printing in Word 2007. I found out about saving in lower versions which solve this problem. However, I have a dilema. I have hundreds of math forumulas in my document and these become somthing else when saved as 2003 compatible. I can print with my graphics in place but with my forumlas in wako. Heeeeeeeeeeelp!!!!!

Can't find this problem in Microsoft Knowledge Base but Google can find it on a zillion websites. Must be the economic crisis. Bill Gates can no longer afford to hire qualified programmers. We can either cut and paste the old manual way or buy third party solutions like
Clickbook or FinePrint.

I have saved the booklet in Word 2003 format, in Word 2007 format... it doesn't seem to matter. I thought the problem was with the printer. Here's the REALLY weird thing: our office has computers, some with Word 2007 and some with Word 2003. The same document printed with the same printer in Word 2007 comes out with p.1 and p.22 overlapping (same page, would be correct for p.44), but nothing where p.1 SHOULD be. Printed on the computer with Word 2003 (same printer, same settings) it comes out fine. We've placed it all in Publisher 2007, and so far it seems to be working. Word 2007 booklets are not working, even studying all the "solutions" on the web... well, at least I haven't found a solution that works. (Except copying and pasting to Publisher... but Publisher cannot create automatic Table of Contents... jeesh!)

It's me again... here's something weird. A document originally created in Word 2003 prints crappy in Word 2007, but the document originally created in Word 2007 and saved as a Word 97-2003 document does print a booklet fine. I just needed to save it as a Word 2003 from Word 2007. Still this is a bit hacked.

I have wasted plenty of time so far achieving nothing but herein above I see some rays of hope. Let me try out and then....

2009-06-11 – If you wish to print a book using MS Word 2007 the following approach may be worth a try for I have found that it works.

Steps for the computer savvy
1. Save the document in Word 2007 if you have all text matter in your book but if you have text wrapped images then you must save the document in Word 2003 or else images will go elsewhere when you finally get down to printing the book;
2. Print the saved Word document using Microsoft XPS Document Writer and save that file with ‘.xps’ extension which will let you see exactly how the book will appear in print when you physically print it;
3. Open the .xps file and click at print icon, select your physical printer and print a nice looking well organized book with all pages in the order you wanted them printed;
4. That 2nd step is crucial – printing through XPS Writer – it makes all the difference between successful book printing or a failed one

Steps for the ‘not so’ computer savvy
1.
2. Go to file menu and
a. ‘Save As’ ‘Word Document’ if you have ‘text only’ material in your book; OR,
b. ‘Save As’ ‘Word 97-2003 Document’ if you have ‘images’ with ‘text wrapping’ in your book;
i. This is critical and if you ignore it you will find your images going astray when you conclude next step 3
3. Go to file menu and select ‘Print’ and this will open print window,
a. Under ‘Printer’ from ‘Name’ dropdown list select ‘Microsoft XPS Document Writer’;
b. Then click at ‘Properties’ button which will open a new window with two tabs;
i. In ‘Layout’ tab leave the default ‘Portrait’ as it is; do NOT change it to landscape; instead, click at ‘Advance’ button on ‘Layout’ tab
ii. A new window will open
1. From ‘Paper’ dropdown list select A4 if you use that A4 size
2. From ‘Interleaving’ dropdown list select ‘ON – Best for the web/printing’
3. From ‘Images’ dropdown list select ‘PNG – Lossless compression’ if you use images in your book
4. Click ‘Ok’ button
iii. That returns you to ‘Properties’ window, so click ‘Ok’
c. That returns you to ‘Print’ window, so click ‘Ok’
d. That leads you to ‘Save the file As’ window, so give it a name and save it with ‘.xps’ extension
i. This is the crucial most step which will make all the difference later as you get down to physically print the book
ii. This XPS file will let you see exactly how your printed book will look like later when you get down to physically print the book
4. Open the saved XPS file, click at printer icon, select your physical printer, and print the book the way you wanted
It is unlikely that I shall revisit this site to provide any further feedback and therefore, I would request you to follow the steps listed above religiously without cutting corners if you want your efforts to bring you results you want.

a. Go to ‘Multiple pages’ dropdown list under ‘Margin’ tab and select ‘Book fold’ option and a new dropdown list will suddenly appear just below that
b. From this ‘Pages per sheet’ new dropdown list select ‘All’
c. Click ‘Ok’ button
d. Your contents of this Word file will get reorganised the way you read a book (facing pages, half the size)
2. Go to file menu and
a. ‘Save As’ ‘Word Document’ if you have ‘text only’ material in your book; OR,
b. ‘Save As’ ‘Word 97-2003 Document’ if you have ‘images’ with ‘text wrapping’ in your book;

I solved my problem by saving my document as a Word 97-2003 compatible document. It printed great after I did that! Thank you so much everyone, I felt like I was going crazy!

After nothing else worked, and Word crashed the instant I tried printing to XPS, I finally gave up and opened it in OpenOffice.org. It worked like a dream. I've really tried hard to give Word a go, but I'm just about to give up.

after wasted time and energy to get a booklet printing done. i never imagined there could a problem with word 2007. why, nobody even suggested that angle when we all wondered whatever went wrong. shame on Microsoft. how can they do this? why should we try other means of solutions? aren't they supposed to remove this bug immediately? after all older xp versions did very well. and then this menu bar layout and other things in 2007 certainly doesn't look nice. and we cant even create a personal tool bar which we can move anywhere and ....

I agree I have wasted too much time on trying to print the booklet created in Word 2007. It works fine in 2003. So much for progress!

Tried the problem solve of xps doc. didn't work for me! We are running Vista.. does this make a difference? So frustrating as have tried the manual duplex but our printer doesn't like the hand feed ...as also trying to print booklet on A3 paper.. so may be a problem also?

After tearing my hair out for 2 hours, I discovered this webpage. I changed my booklet to Word 2003 and it finally printed correctly. One slight problem is that I had to reshuffle the pages top to bottom before the manual duplex feed into the printer. Then all was well. Now, I'll try to insert a table of contents. I hope that doesn't screw it up again.

I found booklets with tables wouldn't print without scrambling the data. I saved the file into pdf format and printed it from the free Adobe viewer - works fine.

yes.. Ms word 2007 really has a bug..
i went crazy the whole day thinking about the best way of printing the booklet so that it'll turn a real booklet...

Dude! I totally just experienced this!
It was so annoying because printing individual pages is a pain in the ass, you know?
So I printed like five copies of my 23-paged booklet until I had the sense to google it.

I know this post is old, but I have been dealing with this same error and I finally figured out a way around it. I opened a new document and loaded an 8-page catalogue template (the simplest one offered) which happened to be a Word 97-2003 document. Working and saving in that earlier format the booklet printed perfectly.
