Congratulations is in order for George Clingerman who produced Bob The Fish and ultimately winning the Geekswithblogs.net Game Design Contest. George's game had great game play and the code is of very high quality. Congrats George and your XBox will be sent out shortly.

However, this was the hardest contest I have ever judged. John and I split the judging up into different categories we were both having a tough time picking a winner. These games are awesome! Aside from George, John and I want to thank Jason Olson, Stephen Whitmore, Chris Weeks, and Scott Miller. These guy submitted their games and completed the entire task. For this, we will be sending them $100 Gift Cards to Best Buy as a prize for all their work. Congrats Guys!

We will be publishing a site dedicated to this contest with download for the games soon.

Er, I don't get it. Is this some kind of joke? Bob The Fish is just bad.

I don't care what the code is like, the finished product is very very amateurish. It's just a collection of poorly made clones of old games that have been done (better) a million times before. How on earth could you say it had great gameplay?

I've only played one other of the entries, but it was far superior to Bob. If I were one of the other entrants I would feal cheated.

Well, Stevo,

For making 5 game types, in 6 weeks, its pretty damn good. Not to mention being his first game (and being a 1 man project (in his spare time (you know, having a job and all))).

Did you expect games made by amateurs to be professionalish? I have played all the games a few times, and some are definitely smoother than others, but all were fun, and none of them were polished to a marketable level. Not a single one of them.

The contest was about having fun, getting something accomplished, and making some friends. I think that was accomplished for the most part.

As much as you dont care about the code, thats a big part of what the contest was about in the first place...

So, go crawl back under whatever rock you came out of until you find an opportunity to rip on someone else....

First, I just want to say thanks to Jeff and John for running the contest. I had a great time doing it and I think I've found a great place in GWB to share my game development tutorials and I'm having fun doing that.

I'm honored that I was picked as the winner (there were some great entries) and I'm really appreciative that you took the time to mention my code. I put a lot of thought and work into the flow and layout of my project. (although I was a bit sad you didn't mention my blogging? did it suck ;) ).

Now on to the next thing.

El Stevo -

"Er, I don't get it. Is this some kind of joke? Bob The Fish is just bad.

I'm sorry you feel that way El Stevo. I poured a lot of time and energy into making that game. I worked hard on my blogging, I took time with my code and I tried to make a fun story to wrap around "the old games that have been done (better) a million times". All three elements were part of the contest.

I feel about an inch high right now, so thanks for that El Stevo. I hope the other contestants don't feel cheated. I thought the contest was hard fought and fun. Thanks for bringing a bit of reality into an otherwise great experience.

If this was just someone making a joke that I didn't get, I apolgize for not taking it like that.

Also, it seems that all of the other contestants are fine with the outcome, offering congratulations (some in the private google group setup for the contest)

First, let me say publicly congratulations to everyone and especial George. And thanks Geek With Blogs for the new laptop bag! (gift card=cool laptop backpack)
As a contestant, I must say that *No* I do not feel cheated.
I feel the competition was extremly good, and was just happy and honored to take part. I look forward to reading George's DirectX "How to's" (And thus using his own knowledge to crush the competition next time ;P) Unfortunatly, I haven't been able to play Bob the fish yet, as the aged laptop I installed it on does not have directX but will soon. But from the code I reviewed I was quite impressed.
George, ignore the anonymous coward and feel good about what you accomplished.

Congrats George!

Oh and El Stevo, not only are you rude, but you're an idiot and a coward as well. If you don't have the 'nads to put your own work (or real name) on the line, you really have no right to criticize others.
