This current effort of the Toyota company appears to be a solid one. As a staunt 2002 GS430 owner, I must admit the new lines of this upcoming model is much more aggressive. However, I beleive this vehicle does not possess the immediate attention grabbing subtle design of the current model, but catches more of a conventional look of most upcoming 2005 vehicles. I'm impressed with the upgraded v6 engine and all wheel optional drive train of the GS300. As a 'hause' power hunter, I'm a little disappointed that the GS430 model has not received a horsepower upgrade. Toyota must keep in mind, this vehicle was designed to compete with other middle luxury class vehicles by the likes of Mercedes and BMW.

AGGRESSIVE....??? It's just the front of the previous body pasted on the back part of the current design....
It lacks passion...It lacks the neck snapping appeal of a nissan..... Don't get me wrong as a die hard toyota fan I have to buy it, but I'm telling you Toyota has to stop doing body design....

The new GS honestly, is jaw-dropping. Yes, the Nissan and Honda designs are nice, but nothing compared at a Lexus. I will say that the choice will be hard between the new GS and the current LS. As an LS430 owner right now, I am almost much more impressed with the GS. We'll see. Who knows what the next LS will look like? Bottom line, Lexus has done it again. The new GS will if not already, turn heads.

The 2006 Lexus GS comes across as a old design. It lacks excitement, and it can't compete against BMW, Mercedes or Infiniti. To introduce the car more than a year from now, it will lack the pizzaz of a new car. Lexus missed the boat by not using the future-sedan concept car.

Hi all...does anyone know if this vehicle will have a similar AWD system as the Lexus SUVs? That is full-time AWD all the time, vs. two wheel drive as "usual", but then AWD as needed, depending on wheel spin, road conditions, etc.?
Thanks!

As a diehard Lexus fan, I am very disappointed with the "new design"!!!! It looks like 6 years old in addition to looking to much like an Altima :=( And this is what I have been waiting for 2 years to find out? Personally, I simply would not buy this model. BMW 5 looks much better for me. I hope the new LS would not disappoint again.

wow, it looks like an altima, TL, and g35 smashed into one lexus. but as a 98 gs3 owner, i must say that the reliability, quality, smoothness is unsurpassed. and the fact that the current style will last 8 years without fade, and its breakdown rate is nowhere near bmw 5series or benz E says something about this brand. as for me, i would either trade up for an LS, or ride in the most technologically advanced suv in the world the '05 rx330h

this design does seem a bit lackluster, but much better than the bangle 5-series. where the only reasons you would want the dreaded idrive, disgusting lines, and unsightly head/tailights is for 333/500 horses in 6 speed. this gs doesnt stir up emotions as does the mercedes E class, but sure doesnt break down or have gadgetry problems half as much as the benz would. sheer reliabilityaward in the mid-luxury sedan goes to the GS.

Major disappointment from Lexus. I agreed that looks similar to the Nissan's line (Altima and Maxima), however, I personally think that the Maxima has more class than the new GS.

As always, the Lexus stylists have gone conservative, and that is in line with their overall philosophy. I do not mind at all. Their one foray into "progressive" is what kept this 5 time SC owner from buying the new one when it came out. I opted for the current GS430 instead and am happy I did.

I want to know about the all wheel drive. Since they have upgraded to a 6 speed automatic we should see some bump in performance, so I'm not too worried on that score. I am hoping the awd will help road handling, which is the one performance area where the current car needs real help to compete with the bimmer and merc.

the only company that inflict substantial damage to the german juggernauts is toyota/lexus. It's the one company that eventually gets it right. I would not want to square off with the likes of lexus, especially over the next 5 years. The v-12 that 's coming in the the future LS will put severe pressure on the merc s600 series.

My GS 2000 model still looks better than 06 model. I really thoght they would do something Futuristic-concept this time. Anyways, whoever designed the Solara probably had a say in 06'GS. BAD MOVE. And yes, it does look like Altima..yakk...

I drive a Ford Aspire with a hole in the rear tailpipe. Sounds like a lawnmover when going down the street. It has a very distinct sloping rear just like the GS not as much horsepower though. The headlights look similar too, though mine are not high intensity discharge. Can anyone see the similarity?

I think Lexus missed the mark on the new GS430. The tail lights look like the old Nissan Maxima, and overall the car's design is nothing unique.

Although the LF-S is now ear-marked for the IS, I think the LF-S and LF-C is the right direction. Both the LF-S and LF-C are good looking, clean, classic and moderately agressive designs. The GS misses the mark.

I was looking forward to purchasing the new GS430, but I'll wait.

The whole industry is getting too "retro" for me. They are looking too much like the 1939-41 GM, Ford, Chrysler models. I didn't like them then either. The smaller windows make you feel like you are looking out slits -- limiting vision. I hope they are not going the directionb of the ugliest car on the road that looks like a 1940 panel truck. I agree with some other comments, it looks too much like the Altima. Lexus is loosing their luxury look.

I own a 2002 GS430...and it was about time toyota changed the everlasting bubble light look of its GS. I think this is the best, mind blowing model of the GS...and it doent look anything like the Nissan Maxima, becuse I believe Nissan copied the old GS slick style.

I own a 99 GS 400 and saw no difference in the GS 430,
but the new one looks good. It doesn't handle as well for
a reckless 64 yr old as the BMW 5, but who wants the drive by
wire Germans? AWD should be a big improvement. Hope paddle shifters do not lead one into dangerous temptation.
Skid control has saved me twice.

at first glance it does appear to look like a new nissan altima, which im my opinion, seems to be one of the better looking midsize sedans (esp. with the new 3.5 v6) and I am guessing Lexus has recognized this, so I am sure the final production model will have a few changes so it is easily distinguishable from nissan.

99 GS400 owner like the NEW look. Yes Nissan has stolen the look and through it on the Altima. I bought one of those for my wife! Fine car. I think that they need the AWD on the V8 give the "Car Tuners" something to grab a hold of thats NEW (ie increased performance) and the car will be the most highly sought after car in its class period.

I think its about time for Toyota to get into the HP race.....
They can't just sit idle on the sidelines. Sure they're moving in the rite direction with their upgrade for the engine on the GS3, but they can't reasonable expect customers to pay the premium for the GS4 when the difference in horses is only 55. What ever happened to their mindset in building one of
the fastest sedans in the world.....

I own the original GS300 with 300 000 KMS. I will get the news GS430 not only because it looks so beautifull but also because this car(Lexus) is the best car in the world for the price. I do not know any other brand that comes with such a amazing sound system, comfort of the seats and performance. My old GS300 is now almost 12 years old now and people are always amaze when I tell them that the car is a 1993. My orogonal Toyota was a 1979 Celica, it ran for 600 000 KMS before I sold it! I just hope that Lexus will put more horses in the 430.

I spoke to my local dealer about pre-ordering the 2006. He said they will start a list soon for January to March 2005 delivery. $500 deposit. He said pricing will be consistent with current models. My quess is there will be a slight bump with no discounts to start. I like the looks and it appears the new GS will have all the Lexus advancements with a very reasonable price tag. I'm in!

Hello everyone I am a die hard Mercedes fan. Thinking oh so hard about mortgaging the house to buy the 2004 E55 AMG, until I saw the 2006 GS 430. Lexus has made great strides with this vehicle. Lets face it Mercedes E55 and BMW M5 are in a class by themselves and their prices reflect that. I challenge anyone to honestly admit that there is any car on the market that you absolutely adore from all angles. The 5 and 7 series BMW'S are ugly compared to previous models and take alook at those price tags. Even the mercedes e-class isn't super beautiful from every angle. All cars, no matter the price, have some features that we could live without, so when you consider the price, looks, luxury, reliability and performance of the GS 430 compared to all sedans $40,000.00 up to $80,000.00 you must admit this vehicle gives you the most bang for your buck. Be honest with yourselves.

I leased a 1999 GS 300 for 4 years. I resently returned it and was going to lease a LS model. But my cousin works for Toyota and told me to wait for the 2006 GS 430 which are coming in Feb 2005. After looking at how SHARP it looks, I am going to wait for the 2006 model. I had an EXCELLENT experience with Lexus and I will NEVER try Mecerdez again. Lexus Service is the BEST. I have owned a Mercedez, Ford & Honda and NO ONE can compete with LEXUS. I am very satisfied with Lexus and I am a customer for Life.

Don't even compare Nissan, Altima or Maxima or Acura TL, Those are Front Wheel Drive cars, the torque steer is so bad you'll ram the car next to you from take off at a red light if you're not strapped to the sterring wheel. (Read Road and Track or Car and Driver on that torque steer issue, Even consumer reports) Those people use to GS, LS or IS and try stepping into a maxima or altima, need take one drive and and you will be begging for your RWD lexus back. Also, While AWD is "Safer" if you like to "play" stick with RWD, Also quicker as the car is lighter, I've driven AWD, No fun.

I am a current owner of a 2002 GS430 since October 2001.
My lease is up in November (obviously) and I am tempted to buy a Mercedes CLK 500.
When I really got down to comparing the options, design, appearance and prices compared to the new 2006 GS430 , I realized that waiting for a few months is far better than being unhappy with 2nd best.
Besides the local Lexus dealership has given me superb service.
When I enter their sales floor they offer me cappucinos and flavored tea......when I entered the Mercedes show room they sized me up to see if I "could actually afford " one of their cars before they came over to me.
Just because I wear beach wear here in Ft Lauderdale doesn't make me poor.

I would not forgive myself if I didn't test drive the new GS 430.

LEXUS VEHICLES HAVE "EARNED" MORE ACCOLADES, AWARDS AND NUMBER ONE RANKINGS IN OUR 14 YEAR INFANCY THAN ANY AUTOMOBILE MANUFACTURER IN THE WORLD IN EXISTENCE TODAY, MOST OF WHICH HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR WELL OVER 50 AND SOME AS MANY AS 100 YEARS!!!!!!! IN FACT THEY HAVE EARNED MORE MANUFACTURING RELIABILITY AND SAFETY AWARDS IN THAT SHORT PERIOD OF TIME THAN ANY KIND OF MANUFACTURING COMPANY IN THE WORLD , EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DO YOURSELVES A FAVOR AND RESERVE JUDGEMENT OF THE NEW GS DESIGN FOR UNTIL IT ACTUALLY HITS THE MARKET AND YOU CAN ACTUALLY SEE AND DRIVE IT. IT WILL BE THE BEST VALUE IN A CAR PURCHASE YOU MAY SEE IN OUR LIFETIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jim E, I have see the new GS in person and I dont care if it drives like a bmw and audi put togeather, that car is a slap in the face to a life time GS owner. What the heck were the designers thinking? Maybe "Lets make the new GS look like a ES"? Not only does the outside hurt my eyes but the inside is very lack in style to say the least. If I was Lexus I take the loss and start over before they release this ugly beast. The new audi 6 makes this car look like a wagon on steroids. Lexus could give me one for free and I'd sell it (if I could) the next day. Not only did Lexus miss the boat they sunk to the bottom of the black sea..... :(

From the rear this looks the way the new Maxima should have.
This doesn't LOOK like a Lexus. Lexus cars should look pleasing, elegant, and inoffensive (they are luxury cars darn it). For those of you that think it looks boring, go buy a rabid-hyena-looking Chevy Malibu, and shove the wads of cash you saved in your mouth, no one wants to hear (or read) your foolish winning.

It does look a little like the Scion Tc from the front side, and definitely reminiscent of a new Maxima from behind. I don't like the "car of the future" exhibit look. Lexus, like many car companies, should remember to Keep It Simple S*****.

It looks like the Crown Athlete/Royal is related to the LS, from the pics.

The Crown Majesta looks like it is also the same platform, but I like the front better:

(Taillights look like the Hyundai XG, not good unless your into Rolls Royce's)

being a previous lexus owner, i wanted to up it a little and go for the big dog gs430. i test drove the '01 and fell in love with it. when my boyfriend told me the '06 was a new design, i couldn't wait to see what it looked like. i'm so disappointed. when i saw it immediately i said this looks like a maxima - what the heck happened lexus? looks like i'll be buying the '05 body style.

The best looking interior on a Lexus ever. Come on people don't bash it because you have the old bodystyle. Welcome to 2006. This ride is fresh. I've always wanted a GS but was weary about buying a design thats been out for too long. The second I saw the new GS I got my ass on the waiting list and threw a G down (early September). Now i get one of the first ones; ah yeah. Represent GS430. Lets not forget Veilside kids... Freshness......

The car in my opinon looks hot, but i think i rather have the current GS (2001-2005) much more because i like the style of it. I like the four lights that grace the tail of the current GS. but in my opinion, this new GS 430 should have atlease 325-350 horsepower. it would be better competition. and i seriously hate the shift knob of the 06 GS its just plan ugly, and plus it should have an 6-speed manual option. Give me a 05 ES330 i'll be happy with that. more luxury on the inside.

After 8 years of the same body design (1998 thru 2005) this is the best they could do? This model looks very much like the current model. Technically it's superior but part of the joy of owning a new car is to have a eye-catching that is distinctly different from previous year. I think they blew it.

The car is good. Lexus is all about function not style. The car obviously has a big trunk (storage), good drag cd (quiet, fuel efficient), and is very spacious.

However after 7yrs the 430 needs an hp bump.

I remember reading somewhere what a Lexus Ceo had said.

"Vanilla is still the best selling Ice cream"

I think that's why they always go conservative. I did hear some stuff about them coming out with a GS350GT that will have a 300hp engine with a 170hp Electric motor. producing 470hp all together. Then the LS500GT will have a 400hp engine with a 200hp electric motor. They said it should be coming out around 2007 or so. There was a big article online but I forgot the website it was from.

I later bought an 04 Maxima and love it. I too was looking foward to the new GS. I saw the pix and realized that I already have one. Nevertheless, I will take a wait and see attitude for the new GS

This is to the clown who wants to purchase a BMW 5-series or Audi instead of the 2006 GS----good freakin' luck with all of the electrical problems and sub-par reliability----you should use your brains and actually research a car instead of taking it for a couple of spins and listening to what these moronic magazines such as motor trend say. Try actuallly reading publications that are objective such as consumer reports. Lexus is best...period. Have fun with your repair bills and long service waits as I am sure you are turning into an insecure social climber (like most European car owners). I hope your pockets are deep.

Now, to the the 2006 Lexus GS. I am the happy owner of a 2000 GS 400 and this is the best car I've ever owned. Lexus should have upgraded the V8. Why should I buy a 2006 GS when my 2000 has the same horsepower configuration?. Lexus should have done a better job with this vehicle.

LEXUS QUALITY... NUFF SAID. I bought the orginial GS300 in 98 and swore I'd never buy any other manufacturer after that. Unfortunately I broke my word, and have owned Audi, BMW and Land Rover since. Biggest mistake ever made was letting go of the GS. Traded my Range Rover for the LX 470 and will never leave Lexus again. Currently have BMW 540, which I'm holding on to until the 2006 GS is ready. The Germans are SOOOOOOOO far away from a reliability standpoint. You can whine about looking like an Altima all you want, but the quality is untouchable, and Altima (which I've test-driven) will NEVER ride like a Lexus.

Hey M.G.

Some very, very good points and you are obviously a very astute individual. I met a man in the car wash the other day and he had a Mercedes new S600 that was loaded to the hilt. What a machine! He spent $190,000 on this car and it has been in the shop 11-times this year ( This would never happen with a Lexus and he was cursing at the car when talking about it. Gotta love that engineering. I will never own a benz, bmw or audi. Reliability, great engineering, with a dab of performance and sporty elegance are what I want. Lexus is the ONLY one that delivers this....period.

Don't get me wrong, this 2006 GS will kick ass. I just wish they gave it a bit more oooph. Even a 20-hp increase, something like that, would have been nice. I wouldn't want a race car, just a few more ponies to make it seem like an improved model would have been nice. I do agree with the Altima critique, but, the Altima looks like an original GS and will NEVER, NEVER ride like a Lexus.

Correct.!!!!!! more horses the better, of course.. but v8 300hp thats good enough for me. plus the more hp, the more noise it will produce... you know, like i said they focus more on quietness, smoothness, and reliability. And if they add more horses, that means they have to reconfigure everything, and they dont want to do that because they want to
"FINE TUNE" what is already good...(reliability) and did you guys see the prices on those things !!!!!!!!! bm & merc? on c-class? forget it,.. too small, "a regular economy car"...
e-class? ok ok same price like lexus gs430 they are ok, but!!!! parts are too dang expensive!!!!! they breakdown more than lexus....
s-class??? mmmmmm? too much over rated.....
but .... sLr or srl ?? dang 400,000.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for a piece of metal and leather , 600 hp?... gas???? 12 city 14/15 highway?.... i dont know about you .... if i have that car, i will not drive it everyday to work heheheheh because if it breaks down?????? kiss your savings good bye lol......
so................ on a lexus price??????? you get reliability, enough hp, all wheel drive, fine tune suspension with kenetic force what ever that means..hehehe they combine all kinds of suspension technogy, headlights that turns when you turn your car, backup camera, keyless entry , console is better than the old one, bigger navigation screen, more wider than the old one, two inches wider wheel base than the old one, mark levinson sound system that is i know is better than the rest of stock sound system out there, etc etc etc!!!!! for that price?.....HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MAJORITY OF PEOPLE DONT HAVE 200,000.00 TO SPEND FOR A CAR LOL...... EVEN 69,000.00 FOR BMW 6 series OR 63,000.00 MERCEDEZ E-class. COMPARE TO 52,000.00 TOP OF THE LINE (YOU GET ALL THE OPTIONS) LEXUS GS 430!!!!!!
GO FIGURE........ MAN...... MY BLOOD PRESURE IS GOING UP HEHEHE WHEWWWW!!!! PEOPLE PEOPLE PEOPLE THINK PLS.
ALTIMA? MAXIMA? PLS, go and print this car and print the gs430 and match them up!!!!!!!! no way............. plus picture is too far from a actual view mmmmmm ill stop now before i get a heart attack ... lol i love you all anyways...... i love people what ever their opinion is........
but remember ... enjoy your life to the fullest, not in drunkeness or getting laid or something, but enjoy the company of people around you, your family!!!! thing you have, you live in a great great great dang great country!!!!!!
dont you forget it...... and GOD SAID WE ARE A MIST THAT APPEAR FOR A LITTLE WHILE AND THEN VANISH. LIFE IS SHORT OK SO ... GOD FIRST, FAMILY SECOND THEN ENJOY LIFE!!!!!!! LOL...... no joke ....

A poor attempt to copy a Chryler product? What have you been smoking? I don't think Lexus is interested in copying unreliable products with mediocre fit and finish. Look at the gaps between your dash and your window sill. There are several millimeters of gaps. My 2000 GS 400, yes a 2000. has no gap. The fit is perfect. And besides, there is enough cheap plastic in a Crossfire to start a plastics factory.

When your crossfire goes 175,000 miles with no major problems and drives like day one, call me. This will never happen of course.

Unfortunately, like most of the general public, you have been brainwashed by good looks. Look at the old 300M. An good looking, unreliable piece of crap. Oh and that new 300C has 3 recalls already after a few months. The Lexus GS has only 1 recall in its entire run.

Please, let's have intelligent commentary. Lexus copying Chrysler....give me a break.

I like the new Acura RL very much, however, again an Acura cannot compare with a Lexus in any category. The RL goes 0-60 in 6 seconds and while this is quick, these are standards of the 1998 GS 400 model. The Lexus GS, even in its current form is very distinctive from the rest of the line-up while the RL looks a bit like the TL. The ride quality is no match as well. However, I will take an RL over any European car any day and any time.

Everyone thinks the GS copies the Altima, but if you compare the Altima with the old GS, then you will know that Altima copied GS first.

Furthermore, a good luxury car should be reliable, so that basically ruled out all the Germans. Plus, while Infiniti cars are nice, they have too much plastic to be called high-quality, and the Acura TL looks like a very expensive Accord, but its SHAWD is interesting.

I dont think convervative is a bad thing, and to me this GS is very classy and modern. It is a clean design, and I would choose this car over every other cars in its class just for the look. However, I do agree that 300hp seems a little too weak.

You should do your research compadre. Tthe 754Li? This car had the most problems per 100 cars of ANY, YES ANY vehicle in a recent reliability survey. If you are going to the 745, why not the the LS 430 which is the best ride on the planet, period. Type in Treo 600 and have a look at a comprehensive review of the world's best luxury sedans. The LS 430 beats THEM ALL, including Rolls Royce and Bentley.

If you choose to ingnore the obvious, you have no one to blame but yourself. If you choose the BMW 745, have fun with that ridiculous I drive. I drove one and it took 5 motions of that ridiculous knob to find my radio station. I know that I will be changing my Nakamichi settings with 1 push of a button-----ah how wonderful.

At first sight I was not impressed with the 2006 GS 430, but its growing on me and look forward to buying one in 2006.
I own a GS400, and love the reliability, power and silk-smooth ride which compares to no other car I've ever owned or driven. I never get tired of opening the door of my Lexus to take it for a drive.
If Lexus is ranked as the most-reliable automobile in the world, why would anyone sacrifice in buying a less reliable car? I'm disspointed in that the GS430 will not be offered in AWD, what happened here? Can anyone comment?

Probably the new GS430 will do well in terms of refinement, but this is definitely not a hot car to look at. The new 5 Series is pretty good also, yet i strongly believe that by the time the new GS is released, everyone would have lost their enthusiasm.

Well for those of you who did not know, there is a Toyota wagon named Mark II Blit (bit of a luxury cruiser with awesome turbo engines). This too has the same front end look as the proposed GS but sadly has very few sales in Japan itself. How could it be possible for Toyota to promote such a story in the west, unless it was some kind of a ploy?

If you need its pictures, please let me know : lankaat@yahoo.com

I think that majority of the car is a upgraded version of the Altima and Maxima. The car does have style....but I beleive Lexus could have and should have designed the GS to be in a class of its own. As a current owner of the 00 GS 300, I believe that I will stay with it, rather put myself in a Nissan upgrade.

The interior looks nice and has improved, but that is the only part of the new GS that really impressed me. The front grill is boring, the rear end not impressive and the wheel design has not changed very much at all.

For the NEW design of the GS....I am not impressed at all.

Overall rating: 4 (Poor)

Try again Toyota!!

I Drive a 2002 Lexus IS300. My best friend drives a BMW 3. I am an all time Toyota fan and supporter. We always compare the German powerhouse to its ultimate Japanese contender. As of today I can not back up Toyota in any way shape or form. Except maybe in reliability, comfort, and maintnance cost. But thats just boring.

As of the motor show I have to say that Toyota has moved away from innovation and design. This car is an extreme disapointment.

ASK yourself 1 Question. Why buy this when you can buy a 5 series or a E-class. Your girlfriend will agree, your best friend will agree.

I am a lexus owner (first generation) I like the new design but lexus is a vehicle that stand alone and this design killed the gs class. You can take a toyota and upgrade it to hold level but this time I have to eat my words..

as a GS owner, ive never seen nothing better than this model, you guys have done it again geez, toyota must put allot of thought into these cars when they make them, but one tip, Lexus should make them with more horse power, like a Subaru WRX STI, they did almost as much as they could to those things. And you guys should really look into making the IS 300 into racing those would be the best for it.

I currently own a 2004 Nissan Maxima...and yes this Lexus is similar (rear window design)...However, I am sure that the handling and material from Lexus is better...to me the 06-GS is distinguishable because it does not have side moldings and seems longer...if this is rear or awd drive...I will definitely want one for better steering unless Nissan upgrades the Maxima for 06 with an awd system!!!

how can people compare a nissan maxima to a lexus gs? it's like comparing a ford to a ferrari and i'm tired of reading about lexus copying the germans. I think all car companies copy from one another. anyone saw the new ML from mercedes? it looks just like the lexus Rx 330. so who's copying who? at least lexus doesn't have an is300 that look like an LS430. i think german cars come one body style just in small, large, and extra large sizes. go lexus:)

Posted by CARMan on 11/19/2004 12:56 AM
I am also tired to people talking about lexus copying German cars,

1. It's harder to make a smooth reving engine(lexus) than a sporty bumpier ride(bmw) , it's preference, not lexus copying, if it were true, why is it that German cars are changing and looking more like Japanese cars, ie. new 5 series, 6 series

2. If lexus (japanese cars in general) were copying designs from others,

Then, why did Ferrari Hired a Toyota engineer to Designed what is considered one fo the greatest Ferrari ever, the Enzo
The dodge Viper, Pure american bread, designed by? Japanese engineer, use to be with ??? Toyota

3. Superior handling,? true, BMW does feel and grip the ground better,
But, keep in mind, its not something lexus can't do, Lexus is trying to make their cars the Smoothest, most quiet cars on the planet, in addition to the sporty feel, if people haven't already noticed, BMW rides are extremely bumpy, worse than a toyota corolla,
( I own both, BMW, Toyota, lexus, Porsche, and use to own Merc, but never again, waste of time and money trying to keep up with the problems)
Stiffening the suspensions is not hard to do, making a car go 60-100mph smoothly and with a low Decibel noise level is TRUEly advanced engineering

4. Too all the doubters, I own all types of car, and I believe all the car company are learning from one another, NOw, next time someone tells you about the GERMan engineering nonsense, you ask them is it harder to make a car that doesn't break down, or a car that has a "sportier" ride?
and do you REALLY want a sportier rided when its sitting in the shop most of the time? It shouldn't even BE in the shop AT ALL...
Even Ferrari will admit Lexus is doing something right for them to hire a toyota engineer to design a car that is named after Ferrari's god father himself, Mr. ENZO

a few other facts, Lotus? Toyota engine is bringing them back into the market, they were dead before toyota agreed to sell them an engine , that revitalized Lotus,

Porsche, YES, Porsche is buying the Lexus RX 400H engine to put into their Cayenne, if that is not a sign of admiting lexus doing some bettter, then what is, and Porsche/vw/audii are planning on future purchases from Toyota,

It is funny how All these other company BMW, MERC, ferrari, Dodge, etc.. are accepting and working with the facts that Toyota is Ahead of them and is doing something right , according to Statistics alone, But there are sooo many ignorant people out there who still insist their car company is the best and Lexus must be copying them,

We all learn from one another, I myself have learned, without Toyota, lexus, I would still be paying High prices for unreliable cheap quality cars like Mercedes and BMW, Mercedes and BMW have gotten better because of competition from lexus and vice versa,
for those who don't agree, Explain to me how is it that my 100K mercedes broke down more often and comes with less options than my 65K Lexus? Actually, I haven't had ONE single problem with my lexus.. NOT ONE... and I own 3, I use to own 4 mercedes, and none of them were problems free,

I bought Mercedes and BMW for many many years, but it is time for a change , If I am spending 40k$ plus on a car, ALL , I mean ALL!! the options should be included, I stopped by BMW recently to look at the 5series, with the same options included in the standard GS430, the price tag jumped by 15 grand... eventhough I have the money, More and More every day, I am starting to FEEL Stupid buying a lesser quality product for double the price..( I do still own a BMW and a Porsche, and I enjoy them, but I must admit, quality, reliability, value, luxury, there is no comparison to lexus)

If Ferrari, Lotus, and Porsche are crediting Lexus for their superior engineering, 3 of the Greatest producers of Sports cars and "sporty handling" in automotive history(not to mention Dodge, Ford, Mercedes, BMW), then , what kind of expert out there can really say otherwise??

The only thing these inferiority complexed people can really comment on is Lexus "lacks the sporty" feel, the one subjective thing, and maybe the "style, designs", I remember the days when the Smooth ride was something luxury cars pride upon, the days when the Cadillac, Lincoln, and the Mercedes use to brag about, Suddenly all that disappeared and now... Lexus just doesn't have that "sporty feel", Lexus is too smooth and too detached from the environment, I thouht that was the whole point of a "LUXURY" CAR!! All the car magazine that are saying this or people that are saying this , I believe, HAS no verifiable facts to work with , and No statistical support, therefore, use something subjective to put down a car company that is actually doing something right for customers, either that or these people are just ignorant, misinformed, or just plain old lack knowledge and information

I like what Car man said, it is not hard to stiffen up the suspensions , it is extremely difficult to make every single part in a car function like it should and endure through the test of time,

Would Lotus, Porsche, and Ferrari really look to Lexus for engines and engineering experience , IF they truly believe that they have a superior product??

Yes, everyone has a preference in design, but to use that as a reason to say Lexus has inferior engineering products??? How lost in time are they,

Car Man, Great point...

I will ask them Why???? Why is porsche ordering Lexus engines?
Why is the Lotus on back order for years????? when they couldn't sell one car the previous year?? Actually Lotus stopped selling their cars in the US years ago, the company was dead and bought out by another company, the CEO got smart, BEgged Toyota(true story in Motortrend ) for 2 years to sell them an engine, and now... suddenly everyone is interested in ordering one, and Now lotus has enough financing to return to the supercar world,
Why did Ferrari hired a Toyota engineer to develope the Enzo? The Enzo is not your everyday car.... nor is it your everyday Ferrari..

All I know is, I would rather drive a car anyday over looking at it sit in the garage or in the shop...

FYI, I have a Ferrari, a Porche, and 2 Lexus(looking into the new GS430)

I would give the new GS 430 a B+ on looks so far. I've seen some pictures where the front looks excellent while in others just average. This car looks great from the side but the 3/4 rear angle has this car looking out of proportion and rather awkward.

One would really have to see it in person to be sure.

Retain the 98-05 GS headlights and rear lights. That together with the new shape and body would be great. As it is, the so-called newly designed head and rear lights make the 2006 GS look cheap and run of the mill.

hi, me again

the current gs, 1998 to 2005, is an icon. it has put lexus on the map by shattering its designers and owners expectations. just try to pass a 430 on the highway.

when i see the original gs, the 300, january 1993 to october 1997, running down the streets and around the corners of my city, i smile. it has a unique look

it's only logical to assume the new gs, the 2006, will be one engineering masterpiece. once we get a chance to see it in all the different colors offered by lexus we will come to love it.

now..., if i can just get a 2006 gs 430 financed...

How you doin. I was currently in the market for a car around 50-55 gs. So i got fixated tot he rl. Beatiful car i can name everything different from that car to the 06 gs. Its got v6 300 gs got v8 300(little better off the line). The rl is a lil smaller which i dont liek at all i liek to have room and be comfortable i sit way back. The rl does have some things the gs does have but in retro spect they balance eachother out for instance the rl hase real time traffic, a noise cancellationinc system, a hat sensor form satelit that automaticaly changes temp settings, maintance minder, sh-awd but the gs has a backup camera, awd, longer wheelbase, the lexus name, better materails, hands down better ride , and acuras reliability is greta but just a miniscule notch under lexus. And the gs in the end is about 3gs more so i have decided i will scrap the rl and get the 2006 gs430. This is surprising to me as a current owner of an 04 tl also had an 02 i am a loyal acura owner but their cars are getting just a little to sporty. Also got an 05 maxima and liek someone said the back pillar does carry over from the maxima to the gs which is fine everyone gets cues from everyone.

What everyone arguing horsepower, awd, reliability, comfort, speed, etc., keeps forgetting is that this board is driven by the PICTURES of the 06 GS. No one disputes the engineering of the GS. The problem is the design itself. The design provokes a majority visceral reaction of UGLY.... At best all anyone else has said is that "it's not that bad."

I think we all expect to look at a new Lexus design and find it immediately attractive and desirable. The IS did it, the old GS did it, Tthe 2006 GS just doesn't have that effect.

My head and wallet say buy the GS, but my eyes and design sense just say UGGGHHLLLYYY........

Me Again

I disagree with Earlybee. Looks only go so far. Who wants a good looking car that's in the shop for repairs all the time? Just ask the average corvette owner.

Corvettes are clearly one of the best looking cars on the road. From what I've been told, they are a piece of junk with a very poor reliability record.

As for Lexus taking so long to come out with new models? Lexus takes a little longer because they do their home work and get it right the FIRST time.

Look at Lexus' track record: #1 in customer satisfaction by JD Power and Associates. #1 in resale value. #1 in Consumer Reports model recommendations.

Now lets consider horsepower.

Speed limits are 25mph, 60mph and 65 mph in 99% of the US.
How fast do you want to go and where will you go to do it? It sounds like you want a 500 hp $100,000 sports car, Dude. Go get a Ferrari. And go rent a racetrack to drive the darn thing.

Finally, lets consider the looks.
As I've stated earlier. We have to wait until the car debuts in all the different colors. As most know, a black car may look good but the same car in blue may be ugly.

Personally, I think the new GS will look great in black and dark red.
But...please. Be patient. Geeeeeeezzzz.......

Well Steve its like this; I am a Lexus lover and a very cautious driver, but to have 500 hp under my hood is just a feeling of satisfaction. Not that I'm gonna act a fool and drive crazy. FYI, I do drag racing on rented tracks. I just want to represent Lexus and show all other cars (BMW, Infiniti, Benz etc) that we are not only the most beautiful cars but we are fasttttt! also.. The 2006 GS proves to me and 99.9% of Lexus owners wrong, just by its "Mugly" appearance. Be real now Steve, we waited almost 8 yrs for an upgrade (in the GS) and this is all they could do in the body. I will put my life on the line that the car will drive perfect, but it's the body style I'm so vex about. Ok and let me tell you what I've heard from a salesman at my Lexus dealer. "The manufacturer may make minor changes before its released for sale in spring of 2005". Those minor changes will probably make a big bloodclaat difference in the appearance. I wont give up on the GS. Sign, Earlybee

I took a look at the website Earlybee(Early) and now I'm really pissed.
At you!!

Do you really think the car is ugly? C'mon. That car looks great. I love the current GS (98-05) but disagree with you on one point. I don't like it in black that much or this blue color Lexus offers. But white, silver, gold and even that seafoam color stands out in a crowd.

I agree with your statement, Dec 9th, that people stare until a GS is out of sight. But there you go again pissing me off on Dec 10th calling the new GS Mugly(?)

Listen Early, 300hp and 325 ft/lb torque is more than enuff to hustle a GS down the road. You have to think of the Lexus philosophy as well. Lexus buyers are more often than not an older person, probably over 50. Lexus doesn't want to give the nice old ladies heart attacks.

Even though I've met a few who like speed as well.

I'm extremely disappointed in this car. I have owned 2 Infiniti I35T's and have been reasonably satisfied (however overall service from dealers suck). I have been waiting a few years to buy the new GS 430 and this is an extremely disappointing car.

I'm going to check it out in person at the Chicago Auto Show in February but if there are no changes from the picture...I'm back to the drawing board. The benz and bmw's are unreliable and the lexus cars are all boring in style, so can't upgrade to the LS...oops, I guess I can always go with the reliable, luxurious, good looking Infiniti (with the poor dealer service)....sounds like a better choice.

Here are some of the things I hate about the 2006 GS: It's too square ( the STS is awful), front lights doesnt have that luxury benz look (they look like an eclipse headlight), the spoiler is too little and the back bumber is too big (mismatch), from the side it profile like a Saturn ION, there are much extra space where the fog lights are (is that for storage), that mesh in the bottom below the gril make it look like some hooked up cheap Honda, the main (big) headlights are too square, the side of the car has a buldgy look like a Toyota Echo, the interior does not have that luxury/sport look, the seats are great, the doors inside look cheap (they took away that side leather), the odometer look ordinary (nothing luxury or sporty about it, the inside has the square look to match the outside (yack), I like the backup camera, but infiniti had that feature years ago (that ain't new tech). The GS suppose to be a Lexus sports/luxury car, what happen? Oh boy. sign Earlybee.

Ok here are some of the things that I kind of like about the 2006 GS:

I like the detailed within the rearlights but not the shape of them (the shape reminds me of 95-99 maxima's rearlights). Probably if they had made the frontlights somewhat similar to the rear the car would start to look good, but the rearlights are rounded shape and the headlghts are square. I like that the Lexus emblems are bigger. I like the newly design seats, they look sporty. The speedometer doesn't glow white again :( I kinda like the bottom part of the back bumber how it curvs and the tailpipes. I like the new door handles. I like the new features of this model. The appearance of the car is very poor thou. If I should see this on the road I wouldn't take a second look. However if this 06 car does look good in person, it simply means that the 2006 GS is just not photogenic........ Sign Earlybee

Wow Early, you pretty much covered all the bases with your three, December 13th, reviews of the car.

Now, let me take a crack at it.

The interior impresses me the most, as it has been, cleaned up. The idea of centering the instruments on one pod is a great idea. The entire dash looks clean and smart. The previous GS had knobs and buttons all over the place. Compared to the new dash the old dash now looks messy.

The leather on the doors is gone but it appears the quality of replacement materials is superior to anything currently available in other cars.

I'll get to the exterior in a minute.

The silhouette is wedge-like. The top of the hood appears no more than three feet high, then the windshield and roof rise dramatically before tappering gently into the rear deck. I'm curious to know the total height of the new car. It appears shorter than the car it replaces.

The wheel wells are now full of tire. The previous car had too much empty space around the tires, especially 16" tires.

I like the back of the car which, in my opinion, represents the biggest change. Gone are those big lamps flanked by mini-lamps. There's but one lamp now which hints at a previous generation 'Maxima'.

Lexus' engineers were more daring this time, exposing massive chrome exhaust tips which are worth the price of the car alone.

The bumper isn't too big Earlybee. If its too small, those repair costs will be murder.

My biggest concern is its weight. From some angles those girthing doors look long and heavy. Critics of the former GS called it "...a near miss..." saying it was not athletic enuff to compete with the likes of the BMW 5 series. Weight was partly to blame.

That's about it for now.

How's that Earlybee ?

Steve, I was with some friendz last night and I showed them some photos of what the new Lexus will look like, they went wild. They love the new look and claim its going to "tek life" when it releases. So now I'm having mix feelings. It may not look as bad as I say it is. Probably I'm just in denial or just won't let go off the old bodystyle. With all the photos I've looked at I've never noticed that there is a crome finish around the front grill until last night. Wow, that's neat. I guess I should just wait to see it in person or profiling on the road. I'm still looking forward for some minor modifications b4 it's released. Lets just say I'll give it a chance.

I really think the answer is to obtain as much feedback on it so they could make the necessary modifications. I really do think so.

It appears you've come around Earlybee.

I'm glad to read the replacement GS 430 has grown on you. Don't fret, sometimes change is good. I know its hard to let go of the outgoing GS 430 but you just have to.

Remember the outgoing car's first commercial? Back then it was a GS 400. The commercial's theme was:Something Wicked This Way Comes.

The black GS 400 appears emerging from the flames of hell. That lady with the spooky voice, those menacing GS headlights.... Ahhhh...Lexus' marketing is great!!!

It's all in the Story of Lexus book.

Lexus' engineers have not rushed a replacement GS to market. They took their time and, in the process, created a perfect car.

One car critic put it like this, "...but this time, Lexus' aim at the BMW 5 series appears to be a direct hit."

I must admit that the more I'm steering at the new GS the more I'm finding it not so unattractive. Answer me this Steve. A Lexus sales person had told me once that they may be modifications b4 the car actually release. Do you think there will be such thing and also a surprise litre increase? Remember that this car is BMW' 540 and Mercedez Benz E Class etc. main competitor.

For some reason I beleive that Lexus didn't disclose all there is to the new 2006 GS which will be a major surprise to us and it's competitors. Don't you think?

Speaking from Australia, we may be in a different market with some variations in the models, but what seems to be coming - in 2005! down under - look good to me. Nothing's ever as unreliable as a carping 'not the way it was' first opinion. Wait til 2006 you Yanks and it'll grow on you. It's similar to the cars you talk about, but different enough, and with the effect of time and familiarity you'll recognise it as the new GS and come to love it. Mark my words.

One thing, though, I drive my current GS-300 with a lot of use of the gear stick. Don't you Yanks? Or are you all turnpikes and 'straightaways'? Boring. And I like the gear indicator in the instrument cluster to confirm to me where I am - but that seem to be disappearing in the new one. A great disappointment. Comments?

Yow Sapien,
Hear dis my yute. The thing is with the 2006 GS is that they may take away old features and replace them with better and sufisticated ones, Take for eg. the shift. My GS400 had it on the steeringwheel but now it will be a sequential up-down shift located on the trani gear. Take into consideration that you also have the option to add your "smart keyless entry" feature. The headlights turn 15 degree angle into a steer, it's so many new added features so dont talk about what was taken away. They may take away one old feature yet add 20 new.

I do agree with you that we will come to love it.

I'm thinking of getting a fully loaded used 2004 GS 430 this spring, and then a fully loaded used 2006 GS 430 in two or three years.
Do you drive yours in winter Early?
How does the thing work in ice and snow?

If not a used GS then a used SC 430. The SCs are also nice.

My current car, the ES 300, slides all over the place. And I've got anti-lock brakes and vehicle skid control. We had a big storm here monday night and I was all over the road.

You don't really mean what you say, do you earlyb?
'2005 Preview' ? Page 4 ?

As for the current gear indicator: my car preceded the Tiptroinc-like sequential gear-change - so I expect there already is some indicator of gear since you can't check just by inspecting the gear stick in its gate. So I await in hope. :)

Let me ask you this Sapien.

Is it the same exact bodystyle 2006 GS featured in Australia as in the US?

Oh Steve welcome.

I currently have a 1999 GS400 which I don't drive during snowy season due to other careless drivers. I have an 2005 Toyota Echo which I am preparing to drive in the snow and always had some beater car for snow days. My GS is equipt with a SRT intake ( it even sucks air when the car is just idle), GS400 Hyper exhaust (the thing growls like an angry beast), and 20" Deablos rims with chopper spinners.

Oh and I just put on 2 sets of KVR drilled disc break with durable two year lasting pads. There are so amazing, you could hear the air letting lose whenever I hit the them. People here describe my cynnabar pearl GS400 as "beastly"

Steve the intake comes with 2 chips that's hook up to the car computer and tells the engine to allow more gas flow due to more air flowing thru. The exhaust, intake and brakes was recomended by a professional race car diver @ World Motor Sport. All this boost my hp up to 342.

Steve isn't the ES300 a front wheel drive? I actually drove my GS in the snow several times and it took much skills to keep it on the road but I was more worried about someone smashing into me. The current GS is a rearwheel drive but the car is well equiped will skid control and also a "snow drive mode" whick stiffens the car. It is also a heavy car and that helps in the hadling when the weather is bad.
Steve I think that's a great idea to obtain a used GS now and a past 06 one later. That way you would have experienced both in due time.

yeah, the ES 300 is front wheel drive but, still, the car has limitations.
the ES doesn't handle slippery conditions well
and in perfect conditions, the ES isn't sporty if driven hard

The new GS shape seems to be the same everywhere, Early.
It's released in Sydney, for display, and I'm not there just now, but from the pictures it seems just the same.

Your GS seems cute, Early. How about a link to a picture??

Hello All,

Well Steve I will challenge you to a race on MY rented track, hehehe. Sapien I'm only able to email photos at this point. Halla if you feel secure about giving your addy. I think I have some nice shots showing the exhaust and rims. I will take some of the intake, just never thought of it. These were just family photos with my car included.

Steve to be honest, I really think the GS is the Lexus most attractive car, don't you think. It's a Sport & luxury combination. I know it's due for release sometime in March, but do you have a specific date? I would assume early March. My anxiety is growing more and more to see this in person.

Oh about the SC430. It's an attractive coupe inside out, but I'm into four door cars with a touch of luxury and sport look to it. That's why the GS is the perfect car for me.

The SC is a solid well put together machine but I personally think the exterior is lack of style. The desinger could have made the exterior more a little more interesting. The Infiniti G35 coupe standards are way below the SC430, but it turns more head. Don't you think?

Steve, I was once skeptic about purchasing a rearwheel drive car. At the time I'd owned a 97 Maxima. Then come to find out that luxury cars are rearwheel drive and sometimes allwheel. They say pushing is far more comfortable than dragging. Rearwheel drive cars enables fully control of the machines in terms of steering. I'm not too excited about the all-wheel drive 2006 GS300. Reason being, my main car have to be a V8, plus why buy a all wheel drive Lexus to drive in the snow to be vulnerable of getting hit? Steve, when you purhcase the GS you will slap yourself for not doing it earlier hehehehehe.

Let me take time to describe a GS.

Other than it's beauty, the car seats greets you with a hug, and hug you until you exit the vehicle. The seat adjustments are perfect. The steering wheel is just the right size, not to big or not too small. When you look through the windsheild all you see is road ahead and not a hood blocking your view. The GS400/430 maneuvers like a UFO.
The GS300 is fast, but the GS400/430 is "swift".

yes!! yes!!

now you really got me pumped for a GS 430
i really like the part about seeing nothing but open road
is that really true ?

i test drove a GS when i got the ES but Early...
i just couldn't afford the extra money for the GS 300 at the time
and yes, i STILL

but one thing about the snow
i'm a little worried but not too worried
do you really think there is a higher probability of some idiot
hitting the car in winter?
i mean bad drivers are just as bad in summer Early

i'm ALWAYS worried about getting hit, not just in summer

of course i do all the little things:
- parking at the far end of grocery stores
- parking a little crooked
- easing off the brakes and moving up a half foot at stop lights
- and on and on...

but Early

my favorite Lexus car of all time is the original SC 400
there is nothing like it, and there never will be anything like it
my first time seeing it was years ago
when Michael Jordan's father was killed for his red SC 400
the car was a master piece...

but then...

i'm watching tv one night
Lexus shows this forrest of burned up leaf-less trees
this spooky female voice starts rhyming
flames errupt everywhere
off in the distance, in the middle of it all...
2 large headlamps inch forward
as the car gets closer, each headlamp is flanked by 2 smaller lamps

a black GS zooms across the screen, just as the witch says,
"...something wicked this way comes..."

i tell you Early, the commercial gave me butterflies and goosebumps

Lexus has a book out now called, The Lexus Story
The book profiles not only the commercial but
the GS' from conception to reality

Posted by Earlybee on 12/17/2004 8:58 AM
hehehehe wow I didn't see that commercial but it sounds wicked.

The first commercial I did see about the GS though was A GS and a BMW540 racing side by side thru curvy moutainous roads with the GS a few inches ahead of the bimmer. While these cars were racing around curves at high speed there was that guy with the "Lexus Voice" saying stuff like "the luxus can handle turns well and is not only faster than the BMW, but is stops quicker"

Steve, after the guy said that (stop quicker), all you see was the Lexus stop at the edge of a cliff and the BMW flew off then came a para shoot.
I jumped up said "brap brap" when I saw that commercial. That was back in late 1997.

Let me say this Steve.
The GS is the best car in the world. My friend's father currently own a 745i and my friend owns a GS430. He told me that his dad told him that the GS drove way better that the 745i. Steve when I'm in my GS I feel like a fighter-jet pilot. Everything in that car is at an easy reach. The pedals aren't too close or far away from each other like most cars. Yes Steve the way the GS is sculped the view is amazing, all you see is road ahead, the car is agile. Oh and FYI Toyota is known for it's angled turning . Toyota has more "angled turn" in its steering than any other cars. The GS seats really hugs, even if I'm sitting in the back seat of my brothers'. When ever you accelerate you feel yourself paste back in the seat, heavenly feeling. Everthing in the GS is in it's right place, the car is perfect. Steve just cry once and get the GS430 instead of a GS300, trust me. The suspensions, engine and trasmission are different, but well worth it. Live the life you love and love the life you life.

Ok, the BMW545 hp is now 325, and I was disappointed when I heard that the 2006 GS' were still going to be 300hp. Remember Steve that the BMW 545 is the GS430' main competitor. Don't you think the GS430 need a hp boost? Say like a GS430 with 350 hp the least.

Whenever some other driver pull close behind me and see the emblems say "400" they are instantly intimidated. They know they shouldn't even try to race me. It's just a "orgasmish" feelings to have the "BIG 4" V8.

The GS4 doesn't stay beside it's oponent's car in a race, it disappears.

About driving a GS in snowy weather. I recommend don't unless necessary.
It take skills to drive any vehicle in the snow, but I think you will most likely to get hit by others in snowy conditions. Steve I have a friend that calls the GS a "dry weather car". I kind of agree with him because even when it rains the rearwheel could be a bit hesitant. As I said, all cars are not great when water, snow or ice gets between their tires and the road.

Here's what I do. I treat my GS like a baby, I don't worship vanity but I was taught to care what I have as a Jamaican, even if its a old hoopty. When it rains or snow its parked until the roads are dry again. It's not the way you drive it's the way other ppl dirve. Lexus' are too expensive & prestige to risk in the snow.

Blessings,

Earlybee

wut up Early? i've been reading a copy of The Lexus Story when i go to my dealership for a car wash. its just sitting there not bothering anyone, so i grab it and read it.

but i've seen them on line at www.Amazon.com for $31.50 by Jonathan Mahler. i'm sure they're at book stores. i'm surprised you haven't heard about it.(like myself, you appear to really be into Lexus)

ok early, i have a dilemma. Remember, I only get 1 car cause I don't believe in a second car for winters.

Do i go with Option 1, Option 2 or Option 3?

Option 1. get a fully loaded 2003 or 2004, the outgoing model, GS 430 this spring. i'll save thousands but have the older style for the next 4 years.

Option 2. go deep in debt and get a new, 2006 gs 430 financed. i'll be keeping up with the joneses by getting a new model but my retirement account will take a big hit.

Option 3. keep my current ES 300 for 2 more years and wait for a used 2006 GS 430 that someone has returned from a 2 year lease. this would save me thousands but i will have had my ES 300 for 7 years. and it's a great car but boring

early, i don't remember that commercial with the cars racing down the mountain but it sounds like something Lexus would produce:exciting, exhilarating yet funny.

i always tell people Lexus commercials make viewers want one.

my second favorite GS commercial is another GS 400 production.
the camera is in the drivers position and a bug is buzzing around the cabin annoying the driver.

Suddenly, the driver guns the GS 400. the motor screams. as the car races forward, the bug is hurled against the back window and knocked out. but the bug wakes up and the buzzing returns. when the driver changes gears, the rpm's drop and the bug is thrown agains the front windshield.

again the buzzing returns. the car shifts into second gear and races forward and the bug...

this continue a few more times until the man with the Lexus voice says,

"The Lexus GS 400. IT'S...FAST"

REGARDING THE GS 430....

IT'S FAST

Yes Steve, respect boss.

It's like this, although I own a GS I still admire those machines as if I'm still druling for one. When I'm driving mines I still look at other GS' whenever I see them until they're clearly out of site. Whenever I pass by a bldg with window doors or galss I always look at my GS reflection :) . Steve I even peek thru my house windows from time to time and admire my GS in my drive way. My GS brings out the child in me. The GS doesn't drive it floats.

Ok Steve, you don't want to go overboard as you mentioned and get the 2006 GS right away. You definitely don't want to heng on to the ES too long for it to depreciate more. I know Lexus cars hold their value.
I think you should grasp that apportunity and trade your ES this spring for a 03-04 GS. You really should experience such year GS' and eventually the 06 model. Just remember that in life you sometimes have to treat yourself and live it up.

Steve I'm feeling that your heart is set on a GS, so get it, you won't regret it.

So I say go with option 'one'

No I don't have the Lexus Screen Saver but I have to check it out and download it.
I'm going to order that Lexus Story book sometime soon.
Steve did you know that Lexus did made a few changes to the GS' when they up their litre from a 4.0 to a 4.3. The up-down trani shift is not on the GS430 they are now on the GS300 due to emission circumstances. I think in year 02 they did this but the first sets of GS430 did have the shift. It's so fun to change gear with the touch of a button. The detail design within the big rearlights are different on the newer 430/300 from that of the older GS (98-01) models.

Blessings,

Earlybee

Steve you said " "I'll save thousand but have the older style".
Sometimes old is new and sometimes when you take one step backward you really do make two steps forward.

Did you know that besides Lexus owners and someone who knows about cars, most are going to think that the new 2006 GS is just another (different) Lexus model? So your 03-04 GS is going to shine as if it's a 07' model, trust me.

Steve, are you on the eastcoast? This morning was 7 degrees here and the BubbleLex rumbles right up (VROOOOOOM!) with the first turn of the key. The GS is amazing.

Interesting comments on this board. It's been fun to review folks different reactions to the new GS series. My take is that no one is really right or wrong--it's all a matter of individual tastes.

I'm a loyal Lexus owner who currently has a 2004 RX 330 and a 1999 GS 300 in the garage. As with the RX (which I pre-ordered sight unseen and received from the first shipment to my area) I have already pre-ordered the new GS 430. And I expect the GS to be just like the RX, a homerun. I knew Toyota had much at stake with the RX and I was convinced that the new version would again raise the bar for luxury SUV standards. Well, the rest is history and the RX has turned out to be everything I thought it would be and more. My wife love loves the truck and I have to pry it away from her to drive it. Added on top of that is the continued Lexus rock-solid reliability and you find it almost impossible to not be smitten by the vehicle. My only chagrin is that after we purchased ours it seems that many others have discovered the same thing. RX yearly sales is over double its nearest competitor (MDX). Obviously, Toyota/Lexus knew what it was doing.

Now the new GS is on the horizon. I'm a big fan of the new design and appreciate it being evolutionary rather than revolutionary. However, I'm just fine if some folks don't like it and have no intent in buying it. When you purchase a luxury vehicle, like any other luxury item, you are partly purchasing base on its exclusive value and when there is a situation, like in the RX case, when a lot of people jump on the bandwagon, then a vehicle or item loses some of its luster. So you naysayers please stay away. Let me enjoy the uniqueness of my vehicle for a little while. However, I've got a feeling that will not last long.

Not putting the new 300M in the same category, but I remember all the lamenting comments that came from both inside and outside the Chyrsler camp about how the vehicle was an abomination. Comments like the grille was too big, the body too oddly shaped and the overall presentation was beyond ugly was rampant on all the car boards. Well, where are all those folks now? The 300M is now one of the hotest selling vehicles on the planet and the only way you are going to get one is to join the crowd on a pretty long waiting list.

Well, I don't like to wait and I know what I want and I want the new GS 430. So like with the RX, when the first shipment comes into my area I will pick mine up. It doesn't matter that I've only seen pictures of it, although I will see it in person next week--my Lexus dealer graciously gave me free tickets to the car show, I know it will be everything I'm expecting. I would never do this with any other car line, but no other car line is Lexus.

What I look for in a vehicle is a combination of performance, reliability and style. I don't want great compromises in any area at the expense of another. Of course, there are other car lines that are strong in one of more of these areas but IMHO there is no other car line that successfully blends all three like Lexus. For example, it may look good and drive good but if I have too many headaches keeping it on the road, I don't want it.

Word of caution, if in the future you naysayers happen to change your mind, don't wait too long. Like with the RX when it was introduced, you may find yourself in the frustrating position of having to be on a waiting list for months before you can pick up your GS.

GS

The GS4 is like a beast when you accelerate you shall feel,
its smooth, aggressive, luxury and oh you should hear its engine squeal,
it feels like a floating jet in the air but yet its a car on wheels,
driving a GS is just like having a delicious meal,
the experience is religious sometimes I wonder if this car is real,
I digested the car's luxurious interior and touched its exterior made of steel,
maximas and altimas are carbon copies but Lexus' are the real deal.

Happy Holidays,

Where can I get high performance after market parts on-line for my gs? Like most of our gs family, I'll just have to see the 2006 gs in person before I can really speak to my likes and dislikes....kind of like he on-line dating thing. Wow, Austin B that is some testomonial to the brand. I was for 20 years a staunch BMW driver who "ultimately" opted out of a 2002 530i after lusting for it for 4 years and driving it for two, and recently leased my first Lexus, a 2004 Black on Black GS 300 in June. The reason: I wanted/needed a car that I could drive everyday which was dependable, which looked like a professional was driving it yet provided a nice balace of luxury sportyiness. I did not want another $50,000 vehicle which required 3 visits to fix any and every issue that came up. My only regret is that I never took European Delivery on one of my beemers, because now I won't be buying another one. Goodbye Munich...Hello Japan!

The first and last car I ever bought as a new model that I had not even driven and essentially sight unseen etc was my 1984 BMW 318i...Since then I have never bought a first year car, nothing to do with my 3 just something I learned over tiime. I am SOOOO tempted to get a 2006 GS 430 as soon as I can get one. I am grandfathering my GS300 to my mom, who is IN LOVE with it. She's 61!

Does anyone else share Austin B's confidence in buying a sight unseen Lexus G?

Thanks for the insights and information guys...I am happy to be among the Lexus Loyal!

I still hope they do some sort of modification to the 2006 GS b4 its released just to make it more unique in terms of Nissan Maxima and Altima. Those cars are disgusting.

hey early, I am in the market for a 2001 - 2003 gs400 or 430. what is the difference between the gs400 and the gs430?
Gravatar # re: 2006 Lexus GS - Motor Show Photo
Posted by Earlybee on 1/6/2005 8:38 AM
Hey Texas,

They're basically the same car with the same horse power. In the year 2002 Lexus upgraded all their 400s ( LS GS SC) to 430, which signifies a 4.3 litre instead of 4.0 hence creating more torque. More torque means less time in 0-60 mph.

The detailing within the two larger rearligts on the 430 ' are different from that of the 400 and I'm sure there are some other minor changes. They are basically the same car and you cant go wrong purchasing either of the GS4.

On the GS400 steering wheel are the up and down shift buttons allowing you to shift up and down without letting go off the steering (lovely feature). Since 2002 when they up to the GS 4.3, that feature was taken away from the GS430 and added to the GS300 instead due to immission purposes. But as I've said b4 the GS400/430 maneuvers like an Unidentified Flying Object.
Texas my advise to you is to buy it.
Oh, the first batches of 2002 GS430 did have the shift up-down button on the steering, very limited though. Blessings from Earlybee

I do work but I check this site on weekends for any new developments or thoughts on the GS 430...unfortunately, you always seem to have a bunch of comments as if you are the Lexus expert....

Additionally, you are on so much I didn't know if you worked or searched the net....

Oh and about 'Lexus expert' what if I am?

This is a message to all the idiots who have nothing better to say than to compare this car to a Maxima. I guess these envious morons have nothing better or intelligent to say. It looks good.

Folks, Lexus makes the most refined and most reliable cars period. I have visited several websites and have challenged others to show me studies that demonstrate Mercedes or BMW superiority. I have yet to receive any knowledge of one study.

I have to laugh when I read automobile articles with journalists that will take a vehicle through a skidpad a ridiculous speeds and make a judgement based on this aspect of a vehicle. I don't know about you folks, but there are speed limits where I live and the most important thing is to have a reliable vehicle that is well engineered. This is where Lexus rules and will continue ruling.

In a previous note, I mentioned that I met an individual with a very expensive Mercedes S-Class that was one year old and in the shop 14-times. What a joke. This probably would not happen to a 14-year old Lexus. Tell me folks, is it easier to stiffen a suspension or design a car with a .25 drag coefficient (as in the LS)? Wake up and smell the coffee.

I had the opportunity to test drive a 2005 STS and it was noisier than my 2000 GS400 with 80K. What gives here? This new GS will kick as and will sell as quickly as beer goes down at a frat party.

To all the naysayers------you're all morons who need to actually read unbiased publications (and, no not motor trend). In 1989, you idiots probably said that Lexus would fail and you say the GS looks like a Maxima. What a laugh----you people are just overcompensating for the lexus envy.

Welcome back Grbone

I'm glad that you really love and appreciate Lexus like most of us here, but calm down boss. Calling ppl morons and idiots is not gonna convince anyone or change their feelings that the 06 GS does resemble the 04 Maxima. I personally think it does, but nissan has no class. Lexus is superior. Grbone, ppl are a bit disappointed that the new GS is not so unique. It has nothing to do with quality, luxury, performance etc., its just the appearance they are so concerned about. They will come to love its new look when they actually see it profiling on the roads. However it's still a Lexus which is a solid car.
You mentioned that you had the 'oportunity' to drive a STS????? hahahahahaha.
You couldn't pay me to even sit in the seat of that STS Sponge Bob looking crap.
Please stick to the program Grbone I have faith in you.

The new GS has a little touch of the new BMW 545, Benz E-class and some of its outgoing appearance. It's an aggressive machine.

dbllc,

Welcome, good to have you. I wish you all the best with your Lexus when you get it. I'm sure you won't regret it, bbut you'd probably slap yourself for not doing it sooner.

Yes I think horsepower is becoming an issue with Lexus. As I've said b4 it's just an 'orgasmish' feeling having a greater amount of horsepower. All these other cars can't reach to Lexus' level, but most of them have more horsepower and I know that's a simple problem to solve for Lexus. I really think Lexus have a surprise in store for us lexus lovers interms of HP. Just watch.

hey Steve,

Wad up boss, interesting colors. My brother loves those color, he has a bronz khaki looking GS4, it is one of a kind. He originally wanted a gold color but he accepted the bronz which is a beautiful color due to fact that he purchased it used. Mine is a cynnabar pearl, I love red. It changes color depending on the weather or how the sun hits it. It looks orange-red, burgundy or red sometimes.

My friend has a white one and oh boy that stand out. When a white GS is coming near, you can actually feel it's presents b4 you see it. White is a prestigious color. The first time I've ever seen a GS floating by, my eyes open up widely as I stared in shock, it was a silver GS with 17 inch crome.

I can't wait to see the new GS live and direct... The Autoshow over here starts February 6th.

ppl like darrell will reach NOWHERE in life...

Thanks Steve.

Me and my wife currently have 3 vehicles. 2002 Lexus ES 300, 2004 BMW 525i and Chrysler 300. Of the three the little ole Lexus 300 has the best ride though the 5 series handles a little better and the Chrysler is just a average car with dramatic styling. First I would like to say that the 5 series style is "LIKE THAT". I have only seen pics of the 2006 GS but this car is with out a doubt beautiful in every sense of the word. I mean The New GS is going to make the 2005 model like look stupid and I only say that because if I would have just purchased the 2005 GS and then found out THE NEW GS was coming I would feel stupid but the current GS is nice but the NEW GS is just that much more better looking. Can't wait to redecorate the driveway. NOTICE no metion of maxima or altima because to mention these cars in the same sentence with ANY LEXUS is completely foolish. No hard feeling to anyone but if you are saying the styling is similar then you must have a maxima or altima and wish to be in the realm of those that own the best, i not crapping on anyone but the 5 series and the New GS will turn heads and the maxima and altima will forever remain behind the Lexus. Dont get it twisted, Lexus is LUXURY and The maxima and altima IS NOT!!!
P.S. I have owned a maxima in the past therefore I know for fact there is no bases for comparison. Thanks for allowing me to speak my opinion. Have a great day. :)

Hey Earlybee and others,

Glad to be back and ya, I guess I may have overdone it with my previous commentary. I realize that it is human nature not to change one's opinion when someone is belligerent and I am not trying to change anyone's view. I was blowing off steam I guess.

Regarding my test drive of the 2005 STS, I do believe in keeping an open mind and if Caddy made a vehicle that was as reliable and well engineered as Lexus, I would take a second look. I like to test drive different cars, just to see if there is something I have missed. To be honest though, the test drive was quite a dissappointment. I don't know if my standards are too high, having owned a Lexus for the past three years, but man, that ride quality could not compare to my GS. It was good, but not buttery smooth. I will say one thing though, the controls weren't bad and were ergonomic, very much like Lexus. No damn knob that controls everything which was quite refreshing. I didn't like that lego boxy look either, although, to each his own. The acceleration was very much like my GS though.

I would love to support the North American car market and would consider an STS, but I have to support my family as well and need a reliable car. Without a reliable, comfortable car, I could not operate my business. I have owned two GS models and I have never experienced difficulty. This is why I would still shy away from a North American or European offering.

Anyway, great commentary guys and I still say the New GS while somewhat similar to a Maxima, will kick ass and looks damn fine.

What do you guys think of the new M45?

Cheers

Hey Too Cool,

Welcome to the board.

The ES 300 is a lovely car, but the GS handles way better than it. The ES is a easy/smooth going car. Try the GS, it's the best car you'll ever dirve, mark my word. The GS drives and handles better than any 745 & 5 series, benz etc. Too Cool, ppl aren't going to look stupid for not waiting to purchase a 2006 GS, the outgoing GS is still breaking necks. Cars still can't reach to the GS' standards. Remeber that an old Lexus never dies.

Most ppl going think that the 2006 GS is a different type Lexus model car instead of thinking it's an updated version of its existing one.

Thanks alot for you comments Too Cool. Wishing u all the best with yiout new GS.

Blessings,

Earlybee

lol, hello Grbone,

Thank you. I see you like Caddys and I agree with you in trying out different brands. The cadillacs are too square as you agreed and Lexus is trying to slide towards that direction also. I think Lexus should keep it's round & curvy look. The boxy look is just not luxury and as attractive. I'm coming to really love the 2006 GS, but I think its a little too boxy. I've noticed also that Lexus' concept cars have adapted a square look also. Wrong direction, don't you think?

Infinities are doing very well in performace and appearance so to speak. The M45 doesn't have that sporty look to it, its fast thou, but its too long . The M45 is still a good luxury car. My taste is luxury with some 'sportiness' to it.

Currently, most Infinities are faster than Lexus'.

Hey there Early,

I do agree that the square look of the new upcoming Lexuses are unappealing. Probably an unfortunate sign of the times. I definitely agree with you that the round and curvy look should stay.

Regarding the M45 I did not mean the old long one. They have redesigned it. Take a look www.fast-autos.net/infinti/infinitim45.html.

Hey Gr8one,

I saw those pics of the new M45, it looks sweet. My younger brother is a big fan of Infinities and he once was gonna trade his GS4 for a used Infiniti Q45. I must say though that the new M45 resembles the new GS from certain angles. I may be wrong. I like the front better than the back of the M45, it's a solid car, I like the redesign M45 and the fact that it's fast.

Gr8one did you hear the talk about the upcoming GS450h that's gonna be introduced in late March at the New York Autoshow in Staten Island. They say it should be ready for sale by 2007 and it's gonna be Lexus fastest vehicle. They also going to introduce the Lexus IS with the V8 at that show.

Everyone has a right to their opinion, but this Lexus is hot! I own a 2002 GS and I love it and would not hesitate to purchase this vehicle when I get tire of my present GS. Do not disgrace Lexus by linking it to an Altima. Not even close and 240 HP is a plenty for driving on the highway! If you into racing, I guess it is not! But don't be hating the GS. It is one of the best cars every built. I have own either a Toyota or Lexus since 1980 and it is the only way for me to go. But that is why they build so many different kinds of cars. Buy what work for you, but I can tell you that the Lexus is the car!

Dang, the new Infiniti M45 looks rather striking.
Dang.
I think Lexus may be in for some competition.
Dang.

By the way...
Did anyone see the new Lexus Supercar, the LF-A ?
Its a real 2 seater, unlike the 2 + 2 seat SC430 convertible.
Dang.
This LF-A car has frightening Ferrari like prices, and the high end architecture is completely new.

But the thing looks horrible.
Dang.
Lexus better get to work on the nose of that thing.

You can check it out as follows:
Go to www.Lexus.com
Click on 'What's New' in the lower, right corner.
Click on 'Concept Vehichles'

As I've said b4, Lexus is giving all their new/concepts vehicle a square look. Square is just not luxury. The LF-A looks like a Corvette, lawd of mercy it's so ugly and to square up their cars to look like cadillacs is just wrong.

I cant remember where I ran into the GS450h and IS430, but its real and they're gona be introduced at the New York show in late March. As soon as I find ther link I will post it.
I saw something that thet're also gonna up the current 4.0 to a 4.6 hence a GS460.

Gravatar # LF-A - Whenever Lexus tries to be original we get an ugliest car of the year
Posted by The Designer on 1/20/2005 12:31 PM
With an exception of LX Lexus always made two types of cars:
a. Extremely ugly ones – Old GS, ES
b. Uglier replicas of other makers – LS, IS, SC, GX and now all-new GS

Let’s look into it.
LS is an identical (except the headlights) replica of 96-97 Mercedes S-Class. The question is why would I buy 97 Mercedes replica in 2005 if I can get an original, which Lexus is going to copy only in 2007-2008?
SC – Mercedes SLK in and out. However Lexus learned the lesson and made some minor changes to make it a little different. Lexus crated different rear, which made the car ugly and changes the headlight shape a little along with chubby hood. Get the blueprint and you would see that Lexus designers draw the car over SLK blueprints making minor modifications.
IS – drawn over blueprints of BMW 3-series
GX – Front of Mercedes ML attached to the smaller LX body
New GS – Enough said, look at ’02 Nissan

ML?? It stands for 'Mugly Looking'. How could someone buy that? Come with something better dude. Stick to the nit so ugly C, E, or S class Benz. If I should purchase any jeep form vehicle it will be an FX45.

The headlight on any new Benz aren't cristal looking they're dull and faded from the get go.

And how dare you mentioned low class nissan? I wouldn't piss on a nissan even it's on fire and hoping for a rescue mission.

I wonder if he's related to Darrell.. heheheheh

... roughly 3 years ago the current GS 430 was unveiled during the 2002 Super Bowl

Mark my word boss-

LEXUS WILL PREMIER THE NEW GS 430 IN A COMMERCIAL SPOT DURING THIS YEARS SUPER BOWL, FEBRUARY 6TH

rumor has it the commercial will be unforgettable

if I were to take an educated guess, i'd say Lexus will air it during the end of the 1st, start of the 2nd quarter break

does anyone want to bet on this...?

But talking from design standpoint, GS, the current model, is and example of bad design in it’s best. Bulky, horribly shaped rear, shapeless front with, as you point, Lexus trademarked headlights.

It doesn’t matter that Mercedes are used as taxi in Europe. Italy uses Lamborghini as polis car and it doesn’t make Lamborghini any worse. What counts is originality and beauty. If you see an Armani dress for $100K with is a replica of $120K Gucci dress would you buy it? I don’t think people would.

Out of all Lexus lineup only LX is an original and good-looking car.

why is everyone saying the new Lexus GS 430 looks like a cheap old nissan maxima or altima or what the hell ever?

Nissan's are known for being cheap cheap cheap
they have cheap looking exteriors and notoriously cheap interiors

Lexus cars are known for having expensive interior materials and the highest quality original exterior parts

a nissan is a cheap Lexus knock off

not a chip off the old block

I see some people added a whole new flavor to this conversation. I guess, it’s pointless to continue.

My facts are listed above and I haven’t seen anything opposing them. Having spent most of my life doing industrial design, vehicles in particular, I respect originality and elegancy in design, something that Audi and Mercedes provide. Lexus could make good (but not the best) mechanics however in terms of design they either make ugliest cars or copy others adding some of the “Lexus” design elements to it, meaning ruining the original beauty.

See you.

I would never knock the 5 series bimmer because I own one and the ride is great and it handles very well. I have owned the 2001 CLK Mercedes coupe, 430 of course but I must say these cars are beautiful. On the other hand, I own a 2002 Lex ES, though it isn't the GS, I realize that you can only do better when stepping up into the GS because the Lexus is nothing but quality inside and out. For those that chose to knock the BMW or Benz, please stop it, within your heart of hearts, one would love to own either. Everyone knows that the engine quality of Benz and Bimmer isnt the best but I have never had a problem with either, could it be, that those who say they don't like the bimmer or benz simply never owned one or could it be that if they did own one, they may not have had the matainence done at an BMW or Benz dealer because it's expensive. I mean I love my Lex and my Bimmer and the Benz held my love as well. I mean really its unfair to try to compare a True Luxury Vehicle (Bimmer, Benz) to a vehicle that was made into a luxury, Toyota (Lexus), Nissan (Infiniti), and dare I say Honda (Acura). I mean, isn't that just like a female, who isn't the best looking, but with a little make up, she'll look alot better. Not Crapping on anyone but it just had to be said.
Bottom line, if the matainence can be maintained without crying about how much it cost you would have no problems, unless of course you take your vehicles to your local auto repair shop. Holla Back, a lover of the LEXUS, BMW and BENZ.

I was out of town putting a lot of miles on my GS and enjoying the beautiful, serene ride. I went 800 kilometeres on a tank of gas, not bad for a 300 hp V8.

It looks like I missed a good debate and once again, Early showed the way by putting that designing clown in his place.

Facts by Designer? What facts? All merely opinions that don't hold water. Another example of a new pathology I term as "Lexus envy". Jealous and envious owners of unreliable European cars tend to have this.

Go to Treo600 and see the testing of the LS 430 AGAINST THE WORLDS' BEST LUXURY CARS. And no, it is not a subhuman, moronic test drive by a journalist paid by a car company. This is unbiased, testing and the LS430 kicked the rear ends of the world's best (Yes even Rolls and that electronic nightmare, the Mercedes S-Class). This study shows facts. The LS is the most reliable car in the world and the Mercedes S Class is not, so how can they be replicas? As well sit inside an LS and listen to the engine---wait you can't hear the engine at idle while the S-Class shivers like a polar bear swimmer. I guess the designer has yet to sit in a Lexus. Oh and my GS is whisper quiet at idle as well. That was a dumb point by the desiger dude.

Looks of a car are subjective. A well engineered car like the new GS is objective. Well the designing dude is having his "well designed" European car serviced, the intelligent owners of the new GS will be driving to their destinations and not their dealerships for glitches. Lexus has won more quality awards than any other car maker. Another fact---ooops I guess the designing dude cannot comprehend the difference between fact and opinion.

Well, I dont own a Lexus GS (although I plan to when the new 2006 GS430 debuts this spring), and I for one can vouch for Mecedes, BMW, and any other foreign luxury car brand that you all are bashing. Mercedes vehicles are "GORGEOUS", BMW not so much so due to Bangle's recent design ethics (06 3-series, 05-current 5-series, 02-current 7-series, debatable though, 04-current 6-series, also debatable, and misc. new models being introduced soon which also carry those odd, unproportioned wedge-shape's)... I for one own a 2002 Mercedes E430 w/ AMG sport pkg... Indeed, the last "good looking" E-class, but I cant name one Mercedes-Benz that anyone in their right mind, would call an unattractive car. Lexus makes very nice vehicles, true-indeed... They make quality, dependable vehicles that feel substantial. But truth be told, Lexus does not up-hold the upscale brand image "yet" that Mercedes-Benz currently has. True, a new Mercedes-Benz most likely would be nowhere near as reliable as even a 3 year old Lexus which was properly maintained... But to compare cars, options, and even performance... Lexus has a long way to go to be put in comparison with Mercedes-Benz on more than one level. Currently, their maximum horsepower output doesnt even exceed 300hp, they dont offer any "Sport pkg's" to compete with the M-series BMW, the AMG Mercedes-Benz, or even (dare I say) the V-series Cadillac's. Most people wanting a vehicle to represent their "wealth" or "fortune" as many successful people do, more often chose Mercedes-Benz (or some other high-end performance brand such as Porsche) simply because of the presige and upscale image that Mercedes-Benz obtains... Something that Lexus has not established "yet". Mercedes also offers more "gadgets" (true, you pay for what you get, but Lexus doesnt offer as many to let you pay for anyway) and alot of luxury car buyers are looking for most and newest toys for their vehicles, if not just the upscale brand image in itself. As I said, I love Lexus vehicles, and have nothing bad to say about them what-so-ever... But to knock Mercedes-Benz (and to add insult to injury, say that Lexus has surpassed Mercedes-Benz in any area besides reliability... Which alot of buyers willing to spend $50,000+ on a NEW luxury vehicle dont even much consider), would be ludacris. Buyers looking to spend $50,000+ on a luxury vehicle usually want whatever say's "I have money, look at me!" (And that is a true fact... "Smart" Middle class buyers shop for Accord's and Camry's for reliability... Upper class buyers want what will represent them well when one of their business associates/friends/jealous ex's or envious onlookers gets a load of their new wheels) And Lexus does represent its driver/owner in that way, but Mercedes-Benz carries a different, and in some ways, more effective prestige about itself, and Lexus just hasn't gotton there "yet". I think "sensible" luxury car buyers choose Lexus... And "show-off's" choose the other luxury brands. Just my 2cent. But there is NO DOUBT what the more reliable automaker is, but when your shopping for a high luxury automobile, its all about whether you want to be seen, or be sensible. And Lexus leans more on the "being sensible" side.

Natasha,

Exellent post and very well put. I do have one disagreement, however. Besides reliability, Lexus does surpass Mercedes in comfort and engineering. The drag coefficient of an LS 430 is .25, which is lower than any Mercedes. As well, type in Treo600 and see how the LS430 surpasses all others in various tests. It is not just reliability, but engineering and comfort where Lexus is best.

Once again, a good post, but have a look at how the LS beats all others.

Cheers

here are the facts...

MERCEDES = over priced dinasours. Owners gain nothing for the extra money. Mercedes ruled back in the day but their time has come and gone. Mercedes don't get interesting until you've spent over $80,000. They get real interesting over $100,000 but who can afford that?

BMWs = legendary performance cars that have had their day. Now, they survive off glory days of old when they owned the performance car niche. Every builder makes at least one performance car now, so BMWs are no longer unique. Their top-of-the-line 7 series is a piece of junk. Just read consumer reports annual car issue. The 5 series is great but all sports sedans are great. The little 3 series is athletic and fairly quick but waaaay overpriced.

AUDI = not the way to go. Audi's suffer from reliability problems and they are pricey to boot. Audis will break. Stay away from Audi.

ACURA = great cars but rather plain looking.(except for the new RL) The TL is a masterpiece of engineering but the styling is questionable. The TL is also an oxymoron:why have a front wheel drive performance sedan? The new RL looks great in and out but there is insufficient performance data so I'll reserve commenting.

LEXUS = all around great cars. The ES 330 is a solid piece of engineering. Commuters who don't want a lot of performance but prefer reliability should buy this car.

The IS 300 is sporty but short in specific areas. The IS just doesn't have enuff low end torque. And its bulldog cute. (Ugly/cute)

The GS 430 is superfast and sporty . In the performance arena its barely edged out by the BMW 5 series.

Simply put, the LS 430 is at the top of the food chain in the luxury niche. There is nothing like it for the money. Period.

one more thing Natasha...

you complained Lexus doesn't manufacture vehicles with more than 300 hp. this shows your limited knowledge

i'll help you out...

what exactly is horse power?
hp is an engines second unit power, nothing more than noise. a car can have 400 hp but only 280 ft/lb of torque

a perfect example is the heartless Ford Mustang GT. Foolish owners make all this noise burning rubber from stop sign to stop sign inside the city but give a Mustang GT a long stretch of road and its out of breath at 50mph losing race after race.

high torque is more beneficial than high horsepower

what is torque?
simply put, torque is the engines power forcing down the chambered pistons.

true, the Lexus GS 430 has only has 300 hp
but its got 325 ft/lb of torque

which means, its got plenty of heart baby
and its plenty fast

GS' explode off the blocks and hustle down the road excelerating in every gear, courtesy of its VVT-i

Thank you Gr8one... And I guess I should have elaborated on my sources a bit more... Im speaking for "the blind public" here. Im not speaking out of reference from an automobile magazine, or basing my opinions from an automobile critic... Im speaking on behalf of the majority of people in the market for a high-end luxury vehicle. I have driven 2 Lexus cars (2002 LS430 & a 2000 ES300), both were excellent cars to drive... The ES300 was a bit sluggish in terms of speed and acceleration in general, but was as smooth as silk in every way, as was the LS430 (but was a bit bland-looking). The "blind public" (the majority who are looking for a high-end luxury vehicle in my opinion) wants to have "bragging rights" when it comes to their vehicles... They want what looks good on paper, and since "horsepower" is the main term that you hear when someone is referring to how fast a vehicle is, that is what the majority of the public wants, because its all they know. Overall, like I said in my earlier post, they want a vehicle that will represent them well, and present a definition of money, power & wealth. Mercedes-Benz in my opinion is near the top of that catagory (save for Bentley/Rolls Royce). I know what horsepower is Steve, and I know what Torque is.... But most automobile consumers DONT (not to mention that Lexus is not the leader in the horsepower wars of today, or torque ratings, so while your making it sound like Lexus has over-come any crticism that its been given for lagging behind the competition in that respect, you should do your homework on a few other vehicles that the GS430/LS430 compete with and see how it measures up). You all love Lexus for the "right" reasons... But your bashing other luxury automakers for the "wrong" reasons. The public generally DOES NOT buy a Mercedes-Benz for its reliability... And commenting on Gr8ones post about the LS430 being given top awards against Mercedes-Benz for engineering and comfort... Most buyers dont purchase Mercedes-Benz to obtain the highest marks in those areas either... The public buys them because (as I said in my previous post) they offer a level of prestige that you just cannot get in any other vehicle, period. Mercedes-Benz is a "STATUS SYMBOL", Lexus is not (yet). Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have reputations for having medicre long-term durability, but that doesnt make them awful vehicles to drive by any means (its not like they break down every 5 minutes, or are plagued with every mechanical/electrical problem in the book before they hit 1 year old), and it doesnt make Lexus a "better" brand in comparison, but I DO believe it makes Lexus a "better"value over-all. Mercedes-Benz vehicles are NOT nearly as smooth as Lexus, in terms of engine NVH or even ride quality (depending on how you like your vehicle to ride), but buyers that have $50,000+ to spend on a luxury vehicle usually have 1 of 2 tastes... A luxury car that will meet their wants/needs in the areas of comfort, reliability, longevity, depreciation value, etc (in other words, smart, value-for-dollar consumers)... Or a luxury car that blows the doors off the unsuspecting competition in the areas of technology (be they reliable or not), performance and "ego-boosting value"). I purchased mine new, and it has been in the service center twice since ive owned it (radiator replacement and replacement of Navigational System), it has 68,000 miles currently, and hasnt given me many problems as you can see. It rides well, the seats are comfortable and I can out-run any current model Lexus in a straight-away (they very much are over-priced Steve, but it all depends on what type of image your looking for... If I wanted to be a little more discreet, I would have purchased a Lexus). Lexus offers vehicles for a "less" demanding buyer in some aspects, and in others, for a "more" demanding buyer (its a trade-off in other words). If you want a soft, cushioned ride, an ample, but not especially "blazing fast" powerplant, a refined, durable and quality made interior and a good value-for-dollar ratio, then the Lexus is the ONLY way to go (especially if your wanting to spend anywhere between $35,000 and $50,000), and buyers looking for those attributes in a car are usually fairly nit-picky. But Lexus will not give you as much in the way of "eye candy", technological gadgetry, or winning many stop-light races (which most Mercedes-Benz owners usually dont do, but like to know they can). Lexus offers beautiful cars (if somewhat understated.) And Mercedes-Benz does also, but their audiences tend to have different wants is all im saying. You can't knock a person for wanting to buy a car to turn heads (it would kind of make you wonder about that persons self-esteem level, but if you can afford to do so, then theres nothing really wrong with that). Thats what a Mercedes-Benz is for... SHOWING OFF. (definitely why I bought mine). Its over-all value is usually NOT a factor for a Mercedes-Benz buyer, because most buyers just want to say that they own a "Mercedes-Benz". Lexus owners tend to look at the "big picture", in exchange for the pinache, glamour and curb-appeal that a Mercedes-Benz offers. I can't speak for Audi since ive never owned one, I haven't owned a BMW since 1994 (3-series), the last of the classic and GORGEOUS BMW's... Since I feel Chris Bangle has made a mockery of the brands image, I choose not to come to its defense except in the "fun to drive" respect. And Acura makes very nice vehicles in nearly ALL respects... I think the TL offers a solid package for the price, and is a very fresh and nicely styled car that I can't see many people disliking. The new RL is gorgeous. Like I said earlier, I love Lexus vehicles, and I plan to own a 2006 GS430 in the spring... I for one think that its a beautiful design front and rear (but yes, it does have a reminiscent look of the 2004-current Nissan Maxima from the side profile, whether they stole the design or vice-versa. The Maxima is not an "unattractive" car, whether some feels its cheaply made or not, so whether the 2006 Lexus GS looks similar to an 04-current model Maxima shouldn't really matter )... Do I expect to obtain the same street credibility in my Lexus as I have my current Mercedes-Benz? No. But im pushing 30, and I want a vehicle that has a reputation for reliability, that also has a good looking, non-offensive body style. I think ALL Lexus vehicles obtain those 2 traits (for the exception of the GX470, the rear end design on those are awful... Mitsubishi Montero Sport all day long from the back). And to Steve... Who do I think I am? My name is Natasha Garrison, my name is in the heading in case you couldn't see it in the capital letters I typed it in. To Steve, if you dont like how I type, how about doing the "smart" thing and NOT reading it? To Steve, "check-mate?" I highly doubt that. You could stand to be a little more respectful, im not that "Designer" guy in here bashing Lexus cars, im just taking up for all the other Luxury brands which you all are bashing because everyone here thinks Lexus is the epitomy of luxury brands, which it isnt. It has its pro's (very good ones indeed), but they lack in area's of performance, curb appeal and technology... Where MOST other luxury brands (especially Mercedes-Benz) have been improving on for years (area's that alot of consumers look at when purchasing a luxury car). Lexus vehicles are very, very exceptional cars... They are winning some, and they are losing some... Everybody could stand being a little more open minded instead of thinking of Lexus as the "Holy Savior" of luxury brands, which it is not. Mercedes-Benz and Lexus (in my honest opinion) direct 2 different audiences, but that doesnt make one better than the other... And that applies for Audi, BMW, Infiniti, Acura, etc.

2006 Lexus GS... Best looking Lexus in the line-up right now.

Hey again Natasha,

Good and long post--lol. Listen, I understand why most people buy Mercedes, but did you check out the site that I mentioned earlier. The LS430 has as many gadgets as a Merc and the funny thing is, they don't break down as often.

Lexus was and is the holy saviour of luxury brands I say. In 1989, it raised the bar so to speak and sent BMW, Merc and Jaguar back to the drawing board, so for this, Lexus (and to a certain degree the first Q45s by Infinti) woke up other auto makers. A more reliable luxury car with more features that cost less, unheard of, up until that point. All automakers had to wake up and smell the coffee when Lexus arrived.

I will say this, when Lexus starts cranking out the performance cars, it will leave the auto world spinning once again as it did in 1989.

I do disagree to some extent that Merc and Lexus attract different audiences. There are many wealthy people (Bill Gates I hear) that own a Lexus.

One more point, and I am not trying to be belligerent here. If Lexus lacks in technology, why does the LS430 have the lowest drag coefficient of any luxury automaker? Is it easier to place in gadgets and stiffen suspensions or is it easier to design a LUXURY CAR with the lowest coefficient of drag. The latter requires greater engineering and technology, so your argument regarding Lexus lacking in this area falls a bit short.

Cheers

P.S. Even being a big Lexus fan, I would say wait one year until you buy a GS. First year model runs (yes even Lexus) can have some glitches.

Posted by NATASHA on 1/22/2005 7:52 PM
Coefficient of drag? I know a few things about cars, but I guess this is where me being a girl steps in... Because I don't know what that means, lol. If it has anything to do with driving dynamics (under extreme driving conditions), then that isn't very important seeing that the majority of LS430/S430/500 buyers dont drive like bats out of hell. Now if Lexus played "catch-up", started offering a "performance" trim on all or "most" of their models and made more of their cars look like the GS (06)/LS (04 refreshing-current), and stop taking design-chances like they did with the awkward looking (but in its own way, handsome) ES330/300, then I think they would be welcoming in an entirely new audience. The MANY consumers who buy M-series BMW's, AMG Mercedes-Benz, and others, I believe would welcome it with open arms coming from Lexus. But Bill Gates owns alot of things... He's still one of the richest men in America... Fact remains, the "wealthy" want to expose their fortune, and owning a Lexus does't REALLY speak as highly on your financial status... And although in reality, Lexus may just produce a better "all around" vehicle, other foreign luxury automakers offer MORE (albeit, for a fee), and just seeing that its a Mercedes-Benz, BMW, or just something that alot of "middle (or middle-upper) class consumers" CAN'T afford, make it all the more desireable. I think it would be more considered a trade off between Merc and Lex... But I definitely dont think Lexus is doing anything to SERIOUSLY hurt Merc right now (Lexus is still missing out on a VERY broad audience. And most of them have caught on to the fact that Lexus isnt much competition in the performance arena). Both are popular brands, but Merc still holds the candle to all others except the granddaddy of luxury cars (Rolls/Bentley respectively). From a durability, and over-all better vehicle standpoint... Lexus wins hands-down. But Lexus still needs to open more doors to broaden their audience base. I think the redesigned IS300 might just do it for Lexus if its anything like a more luxuious version of Toyota's Scion brand. The GS could have been a little shorter in length (maybe close to the 98-05 size) so that it wouldnt look so hefty (and be more eye-catching to the younger professional crowd), but thats one of my "personal" favorites about the car is its size. Lexus needs a big performance boost to pose a "serious" threat to Beemer and Benz though, and to offer more in the way of technological advancement (where's the heated & cooled rear seats? Cooled steering wheel? Rain sensing windows/moonroof? Those are just small options that are obtainable in the Mercedes (inded, for a cost, but still available). Other than that, I think Lexus' are fine automobiles. Not very comparable with Mercedes-Benz and even less comparable with BMW (Lexus' main competitor to me is Infiniti & recently, Cadillac... Which is sad to say since their interior craftsmanship is mediocre at best & their exterior designs are atrocious (art & science? Try cubes & triangles). But I havent heard anything except praise about their engines or performance in general.

Hey Natasha,

Don't get a CLK...I would even risk the glitches of a new Lexus GS...just my opinion.

I do respect your opinions and if I were to get a new GS, black with the factory chrome is the way to go. I like your attitude and your opinions...very good and open minded.

I do agree with your opinion regarding the new E-class....doesn't do much for me either. Once you own a Lexus, you won't go back...this I guaranteee from experience.

Keep up the good posts and I like your attiude very, very much

Cheers

Thank you Gr8one. I think I would probably go ahead and take a risk... I can deal with a few minor glitches (as long as im not going to have a higher probability for premature engine failure or something, lol). I like the face that its a 2006 and I can get the car in early 2005... So I can drive it for over a year and a half with it still being considered "new". Do you know what I saw last night that almost made me want to run to the dealership right then and there? The new Infiniti M45. Everything about that car made me drool except the tail-lights (what were they thinking!?!?) If that clear part was deleted thats right above the tail-lights next to the trunk crease (clear-lens turn signals?), then I think the rear end would look ALOT cleaner... But those tail-lights (in my opinion) right now say "HYUNDAI" (way too busy looking). I wonder if the engine in the GS430 (2006) can be modified? I would like to squeeze a little more power out of it (unless it's faster than it looks on paper judging by its performance stats). I'd hate for one of those cheap (but nice looking) Magnum R/T's/300C's/Charger R/T's to have such a large performance advantage.

Hey Natasha

I like that M45 as well and I do agree with your assessment of the tail-lights. I don't think those Chrysler products will have that much of a performance advantage. I hear the new GS will do 0-60 in around 5.5 or 5.6 (mine does 5.7 so there is not that much of an improvement). I read on an earlier post that the GS450h will come out in a few years and this will be the fastest Lexus ever. If you want speed, maybe that is the one you should get after paying off your new GS.

To each his own, but I like a quick car with a really serene ride. I guess you're quite the speed demon, but I don't think you will be too unhappy with the GS. You should probably check out the club lexus site to look at modifications. I knew of someone that got over 450 horses out of a GS400 and the thing did 0-60 in around 4.2 seconds. I think he spent a mint though.

Cheers

Blessings all.

Natasha, are you a story writer? I wish whosoever is incharge of this site could limit the words ppl type. Natasha let me tell you this madam, Lexus' are top of the top vehicles. The book called 'The Lexus Story' explains it all. It's the same car which other automakers didn't think was gonna make it. Of course Lexus' levitates faster than Benz or any other vehicles ever did and is now above all. Benz are nice but unreliable, not so attractive and appears odinary. The front of the E-Class is not so bad looking but jesus help us with the side and back very cheap looking. the back of the E-Class look exactly like the new Ford murcuries or sables (yack). The only thing that's carrying Benz nowadays is just its name. The CLKs are sweet the S-Class is lack of style and shape. My friend own a E430 and he describe it as 'lazy'. 301 hp for the E-430, wow big deal. The AMG is the real deal yes, but it's not good looking from a side or rear view. I'm not buying hp only, I'm buying appearance, perfection, reliability, luxury, and hp (the whole package). That package is 'Lexus'. 'Lexus is keeping it jiggy'

Natasha keep is simple boo,

Earlybee

Grbone very good advise.

People should really wait a year to buy the new GS430. I really think Lexus have somen up their sleeves for HP. Remember the all new GS450h will be introduced at the NY Autoshow late March 05. Following that will be the IS430 and I hear rumor about the GS460 to be introduced in 06. Natasha remember when the second generation GS were released in 1997 they were among the fastest car in the world boo. Faster than Mustang, camaros, BMW, Benz etc. And they were faster by farrrrrrr. Most cars still can't drive near to the GS4. So Natasha watch out. Which car made Benz, BMW and Infiniti step up their HP game? The answer is Lexus, and Lexus HP shall rise again.

Blessings,

Earlybee

lol Steve, respect boss.

Steve I like the way you explained HP vs Torque, brilliant.

I think Natasha needs to get her facts str8, I think she's a very good typer, but that doesn't mean she not ignorant to vehicles. I think Natasha missed the point. It's about 'Quality' not only 'Brand Name' and cost.

Lexus' are fast & beautiful. Picture a GS. Isn't 'she' lovely?

Im actually not "ignorant" as far as automobiles Earlybee... I spoke for the "blind public" as I said in that post (which is also old news now if I might add). But yes, as I said "twice, maybe 3 times before", Lexus vehicles are some of the best vehicles available right now. Their of excellent quality, "most" of them are beautiful in design... BUT Lexus is still lagging behind the times. I ended my topic stating "Lexus and Mercedes-Benz attract different audiences", which they very well do. People who buy Mercedes-Benz (as I said twice earlier) dont want the sedate and fairly "casual" appeal of a Lexus. OWNING a Mercedes-Benz for ALOT of luxury car buyers makes a much higher statement than owning a Lexus... Its just a general fact. THESE DAYS AND TIMES, most luxury car buyers are MORE interested in a vehicle that represents THE OWNER having complete financial security (a "Status Booster" if you will, which is what a Mercedes-Benz is, a Lexus is not.) I can see that MOST Lexus owners are a tight knit group of people that adore there cars and believe that Lexus is the king of all automobiles and nobody can take that false knowledge/assumption away from you. So for me (being a Mercedes-Benz owner currently, but a Lexus owner in the near future), this is a losing argument for me (but I respect all of you who are standing behind the brand... Just know that there are also people... Probably more than you think, who stand behind their brands just as firmly, so for all of you who go around bashing Mercedes-Benz and pretty much all other luxury automakers besides Lexus... There will be others besides me who will speak up and come to their defense.) All I know is, Lexus does not hold a candle to Mercedes-Benz yet. I think Lexus has surpassed BMW (recently, since the Chris Bangle design disaster), Infiniti (always), Cadillac (always) and many (if not, all) other competing luxury car brands. But the fact remains, that Mercedes-Benz builds cars for a MUCH MORE broad audience, they give you more bells and whistles, and (as fictional as this may seem), owning a "Mercedes-Benz" just says "more" to the public ear. Im not bashing Lexus at all (like most of you are with Mercedes-Benz, which is unjust, because all your going off of is long-term reliability, which isnt even a factor for MOST Mercedes-Benz owners as ive said before)... Lexus builds a much more reliable vehicle than Mercedes-Benz, but Mercedes-Benz has more "clout" in the luxury car industry, so it can afford to build such cars. That may sound like bad business, but most consumers that buy Mercedes-Benz vehicles DONT CARE about long term reliability (for the 5th time I think). They want the name, status and the class leading performance whether to boast, or use personally. Most consumers that purchase Lexus vehicles want the reputation for quality above ALL else. To say that Mercedes-Benz vehicles dont equal Lexus vehicles in terms of styling is your own opinion... But I find some Lexus vehicles just as unappealing as some Mercedes-Benz vehicles (Lexus ES330... Controversial but "love it or hate it" styling. Lexus LX470. Outdated, some may say "classic", but others still say "dinosaur". Lexus LS430. I for one love the styling, others think its boxy, old-fashioned and bland... Some even say a knock-off of the 92-99 bodystyle Mercedes-Benz S-class). Lexus has "NEVER" surpassed Mercedes-Benz in terms of performance, nor almost ANY other luxury brand, domestic or foreign Earlybee, im sorry to be the one to break it to you. The Lexus GS (or ANY Lexus for that matter) was never rated one of the fastest vehicles in the world. Im ignorant in terms of vehicles? Baby please, that statement sounds like your mad because someone actually knows where Lexus stands when being compared to a Mercedes-Benz... "NOT" there yet. Im hardly cocky or arrogant when it comes to my car (A Mercedes-Benz), but I really do think you Lexus owners (the few that are here in the midst of this debate) should be a tad bit more open minded and TRUTHFUL with yourselves. Lexus is an excellent brand, but it does not surpass Mercedes-Benz, period. As I said in a previous post, Lexus definitely gives you more "value-for-your-dollar", but it DOES NOT present the same image that a Mercedes-Benz does and has for many years. Lexus is the superior vehicle depending on what your looking for... If you'r a middle-upper class consumer looking for a good, sturdy, reliable and moderately elegant vehicle, you are Lexus' target buyer. Mercedes-Benz buyers generally are in the market for whatever will "speak for them". Thats why I said that this discussion isn't really relevent because MOST Mercedes-Benz owners wouldn't want a Lexus, and vice-versa. Lexus is an excellent car for the millionth time, but it does not have the elegance or class of a Mercedes-Benz... It does not have the clout, or audience direction of a Mercedes-Benz either. Lexus doesnt have what it takes to keep up with Mercedes-Benz in the area's that most Mercedes-Benz buyers purchase them in the first place (performance and curb-side appeal). Lexus is getting there and I think IT WILL get there, but it isnt there now. And EarlyBee... If you dont like the length of my statements/replies, then dont get me started sweetheart. Now lets all agree to disagree and move on... You all will forever think what you want to think about Lexus, MOST Mercedes-Benz owners will disagree and vice-versa, so this debate is pointless... I also do like to keep my manicures looking decent for longer than a day (because Earlybee is right, I have done alot of typing, lol). Gr8one... What is the GS450h? Isn't that a hybrid?

Ok darling Natasha I see your point. Correct me if I'm wrong, Mercedes signifies 'success' and Lexus signifies 'working towards success'? Ok let me be open minded. Some Benz' are very attractive cars and if Lexus' werent in existance Benz is what I would probably be driving. Of course there are ugly Lexus' like the LF-A and I'm not a fan of the LX470 either. Natasha boo, speaking in terms of performance, how would you campare the Lex to the Mercedes? With you becoming a Lexus family soon, will you be moving towards something less or more?

Lexus stands for:

L uxury
E legant
X cellent
U nique

i'm with you Early, i wish the owner of this blog would limit how much Natasha can write cuz she is out of control with these dang 50,000 word novels

no one wants to read that rambling nonsense girl...
take a deep breath and get yourself together

i think your ideas are missed in your 50,000 word novels

your efforts are futile and your approach to writing is juvenile
you are clearly insane and should consider checking yourself

i think a Lexus owner does buy a Lexus because of image
like i sed b4, Mercedes owner's gain nothing for the xtra money

people like you Natasha always wants to compare $90,000 mercedes with the $70,000 top of the line Lexus

whenever people compare Lexus to other vehicles, they never stay in the same price range.

and yes, Natasha, Lexus does offer rain sensing wipers, push button starts, keyless entry via smart Technology, etc etc etc

just check out the options on the 05 ES 330 or LS430

you should really get your facts straight before writing another 50,000 word novel girl

another thing Gr8

i agree with you Bud
mercedes was the shiznitz in the 60s and 70s
they had no real competition then

once Lexus arrived, they put the world on notice....

now the only thing the mercedes dinosaur can do is fall back on their glory days cause thats ALL mercedes has now

look at the reliability record of the mercedes SUVs in Consumer Report

that freakin' ML is defined by the word LEMON
the C-series is a joke
the E-series is ugly
the S-series is waay over priced

and $100,000?!!!! mercedes charges $100,000 for vehicles that aren't worth $100,000.

lexus could stretch the LS430, increase the engines displacement and boost hp, change the back and front lights, slap on bigger wheels and tires, limit its production, add more buttons to the dash, call it something else and charge $100,000 for the thing and it would completely sell out

if they wanted to, Lexus could boost the hp on the SC430, get rid of those tiny rear seats, slap on chromed wheels and larger tires, change the front and rear lights, change the grill, increase the power on the wonderful mark levinson stereo, limit the production(a sure sign to increase sales), limit the color, reshape the sheet metal just a bit, and call the thing an SC630 and the thing would instantly sell out

but they would never do it because they don't rip-off people like those mindless, gutless, greedy, old relics at mercedes benz

I like your idea of purchasing a used SC430. I know some think they are ugly, but man, those things snap necks wherever they go. I think they look awesome. If it's in the cards and you want to give the up the GS, it's a good bet. I am sure that even our senior guy Early would agree with me on that one.

Everybody apparantly felt like ganging up on me tonight. There were so many comments directed towards me that I dont even want to start posting a reply to each one... But I will reply to the memorable ones (and most disrespectful ones... Those were mainly posted by Earlybee & GorgeousGeorge).

Steve... Read my earlier post (if you have an hour or 2 to spare, LOL). It clearly say's that I feel that Mercedes-Benz and Lexus steer towards 2 different audiences. MB's are more pricey than Lexus (often times for good reason, where else can you get nearly 500hp/nearly 600lb ft of torque for UNDER $200,000?? Ferarri doesnt offer nearly as many gadgets, all-weather driving capability, or much of a HP/TQ advantage, but they ask nearly twice as much for their automobiles... So to call MB over-priced usually just means your within the intentionally created boundaries MB wants to keep their future/regular customer base... YOUR TOO POOR. MB drivers want something that every middle to middle-upper class consumer CAN'T AFFORD. Lexus vehicles are easily obtainable and even the "near flagship" model starts in the LOW $40's. A bargain? Indeed so. But a MB owner wouldn't dream of owning something that the guy who washes his car twice a week owns a duplicate of... Except the kids and women who drive high $20,000 (hatchback with cloth seats) to mid #30,000 priced C-classes, and even their "peers" look at them googley-eyed because many of them can't afford an MB of any kind yet, so its the same scenario. And you get what you pay for... You want the exclusivity of a Mercedes-Benz? You pay the premium. You may not want it, or are able to pay the cost, but trust, many people make it a life goal to be able to own a Mercedes-Benz, and im sure you know that as well as I do.

GorgeousGeorge. Im not "easy" on the eye??? Who the hell are you to assume that??? I dont have anything to prove to you, or anyone else... But log on to BlackPlanet.com as a Guest (the option to log on as a Guest is on the main page). Once your on the website, type in "SuchANiceGirl05", thats my screen name to my BlackPlanet page (yes, im black). Im nowhere near vain, but im hardly "unappealing". And your right, I am very intelligent. I just graduated college (4 years) with my BA in Nursing. I graduated from Mercy High school (one of the finest and most prestigious all-girls private schools in the state), so dont even THINK that you know me well enough to judge my physical attributes or my intelligence.

Steve. Lexus does not offer the few electronic advancements that "I" named... Your naming your own items that you consider noteworth, why dont you take a look at mine, and see if "any" are offered... And thats just for starters sweetheart. And like ive said earlier to someone else... If you dont like THE LENGTH OF MY POSTS, DO NOT READ THEM!

Steve. (P.S.) I agree on the "black car", my Merc is black and "very" hard to keep clean... But as you said, what looks better than a glossy "swirl-free" black car in the summer time? lol. Its a trade-off, beauty for up-keep. But Lexus offers a nice array of colors for the 06 GS judging by a link I saw in this forum... I may choose something similar to a "Gun Metal Grey".

GorgeousGeorge (and EVERYONE else). Lexus is not "problem-free" either. MOST Mercedes-Benz vehicles flaws are electronics failures (Mercedes-Benz engines and transmissions have no lengthy service bullitins advising of any severe or major defects anywhere), something to be expected in an automobile so highly advanced. Lexus not too long ago had a very well known flaw in the 1992-2001 ES300 for oil sludging in the engine (the ES300 was Lexus' most popular vehicles at the time, and Lexus lost ALOT of customers to this reoccuring problem). SOME said it was because Lexus extended the oil change intervals too long, but other say it was an engine defect. There are also a few other well-known defects to certain model year Lexus vehicles... Take a look at some reviews that people have made about THEIR OWN Lexus experience on CarSurvey.org... ALOT of them are lackluster. This is not to BASH Lexus because I KNOW as well as ALL OF YOU KNOW that Lexus builds extremely well built cars, but it just goes to show that not everything that shines is gold. Mercedes-Benz has some well-known flaws, but that doesnt mean for a second that ALL OF YOU can bash them for what nearly NONE of you can vouch for on a personal experience. I can vouch for Mercedes-Benz, because I OWN ONE. My previous Benz was a 1998 SLK 230 Kompressor. The only defects were a malfuntioning CD player about 2 years later and after plenty of use, and a bad/broken lower left ball joint after 71,000 miles. Not EVERY Mercedes-Benz that rolls out of the factory is going to have the same problems (if any), and not every Lexus that rolls out of the factory is going to be "problem-free". So for you to come down on Mercedes-Benz like they build re-badged YUGO's with leather seats is unjust, biased and ridiculous. ALOT of you in here are going off of what you read through critics... I base my opinion off of what ive experienced. Ive driven countless Mercedes-Benz vehicles in my days and none were any less than stellar. My ex-husband owned a 1995 Mercedes-Benz SL500... Minor glitches, no MAJOR problems ever. My dad currently owns a 2003 S600. GORGEOUS car, faster than anything Lexus can dream of, more technologically advanced than 2 LS430's clumped together (the only defects have been a blown out Xenon headlamp and an ABS warning light, minor glitches). Is it in the same catagory as a LS430? No. Does the LS430 attract the same type of buyer as the Mercedes S-class? No (usually). Lexus is in a different ball park right now. The 2 auto makers produce vehicles for 2 different audiences. Like ive said before, Mercedes-Benz owners want the "snob appeal" of the brand... Lexus is a car to brag on, yes it is... Im sorry if I made it seem like Lexus was some kind of unwanted step-child to Mercedes-Benz, but Lexus does not offer that same "snob appeal" that Mercedes-Benz does and has for many years. What some consider "ugly" is of non-relevance unless the vast majority of the public feel the same, so for the few of you who don't like a particular Mercedes-Benz design, Lexus has a few debatably designed products out now as well. Base your statements on facts, not your own personal opinions of what is "ugly" and what isn't.

Gr8one... I responded to Earlybee stating that the 1998-current/2005 GS400's were "the fastest cars in the world"... I remember the introduction, and I remember that they edged out the competition (a bit late if I might add... Cadillac had been doing it with their praised Northstar engine for years before), but they were never considered "the fastest car in the world", thats obvious, but I just wanted to clear that up. And I thought you were my only friend man, your turning on me!?!? LOL. You knew what I meant... A future Lexus owner can't talk bad upon the car that will soon represent them. It's okay though... Ill cry for a few hours, but I guess ill get over it :)

Earlybee... Benz and BMW will ALWAYS be in competition with Lexus... And so far (performance-wise), they have ran circles around Lexus. Mercedes-Benz is still the most preferred luxury vehicle during the NPS (National Public Survey), and BMW will never be over-rated... Not with Chris Bangle designing their vehicles. Are you serious!?!?!?

Generally speaking... Im not going to go head to head with everybody in a LEXUS FORUM, lol. I didnt mean for it to go this far, because I know that most people in a Lexus forum are going to be a bit biased (as I may be with my Benz, but all of my statements are relevent as well). All im saying is, MERCEDES-BENZ and LEXUS attract different buyers. People wanting something to make a statement about their wealth and status, usually walk into a Mercedes-Benz dealer. Thats just pure truth. And most Mercedes-Benz sales are sliding because MOST of their current models are fairly old (S/CL-class, E-class, ML-class... The real money maker of MB next to the S-class). The 98-2005 GS300/430 sales are down to almost nothing from what ive read (in more than 1 article)... Same outcome of being an old model... Just a different brand. Mercedes-Benz has never lost any sales for any reason other than having WAY too many old models in their line-up (which is fairly unusual that the only new product this year is the limited production SLK... But come 2006, the CLS will be introduced, as well as the new ML, a freshened E-class early in its life due to lower demand than MB likings, a resdesigned S/CL-class, long over-due if I might add, but still stylish and elegant offerings in their old age, much less offensive than the BMW 7-series... I think the S/CL may be early 2007's, but ive heard that they will be introduced in 2006). You all can bash all the luxury automakers all you want, but Lexus owners want something completely different than most other luxury car consumers. Lexus buyers have become accustomed to something not many other brands outside of Toyota Mo. Co. cannot provide... A+ craftsmanship in a whole. But as ive said before, Mercedes-Benz owners usually dont care much about that (even though Mercedes-Benz interiors match or exceed Lexus standards, performance definitely exceeds that of Lexus in MOST MB models and NOT ALL Mercedes-Benz vehicles are unreliable). MB's have a worse track record than Lex and for good reason, I wont lie, thats one of the key reasons im considering a Lexus. So, can we all just leave this discussion alone and talk about the unveiling of my future car (the 2006 GS430)???

*AND FOR ALL OF YOU WHO THINK MY POSTS ARE TOO LONG... DONT READ THEM! THEN I WONT HAVE A REASON TO RESPOND WITH SUCH A LONG POST BECAUSE I WONT HAVE ANYONE TO RESPOND TO.*

Hey Natasha,

You're too nice and diplomatic...I could never turn on ya! We just had a disagreement and I was not bashin' ya.

I think we just have to agree to disagree. I will say one thing though and I said it before, once you own a Lexus, you will not go back to Merc. If you read cosumer reports though, you will see that ALL benzes have trouble. I think it is that merger with Chrysler as it appears that prior to that merger, Mercedes models were more trouble free.

Cheers

there you go again Natasha...

no one wants to read all that crap girl...
you ramble on and on like an old senile spinster

when all of your novels are read collectively
you contradict yourself over and over

p.s. there's no way you're under 200 lbs...

I don't really want to jump in the crossfire here but I just wanted to post my own experience(s) with my 1998 Lexus GS 300 that I traded in for the cuurent car that I own now, a 2002 MB S500. For starters I just want to say that I am somewhat dissapointed at the design of the new 2006 GS430. I may, and I do mean may, feel differently after seeing "her" on the road. I guess I was expecting to get that same feeling inside when I saw the commercial for the redesigned 1998 GS. Remember that commercial? "Something wicked this way comes". Man, I remember that commerical like it was yesterday! But anyway, to make a long, boring story short; I absolutely loved my GS300, never had a problem whatsoever with "her". But like Natasha implies in her earlier posts, I got caught up in that old "snobish" bull crap and decided to buy a dang limousine. The Lexus gave me not one problem and "Betty" my Benz is killing me. It seems like every time I just look at the car something electrical goes bad. So now when I get home I just look the other way and hope nothing is wrong with "her" (I take the bus to work). Bottom line: I am sorry I traded in my GS but the foolish side of me will probably go Benz again, just because I am foolish.

Ronnie

Natasha, I still want to marry you!!!!!

the SC430 goes from hardtop to convertible in a mere 25 seconds
the SC430 goes from 0 to 60 in 5.9 seconds

but who drag races an SC430?
SC430s are for cruising Southern California boulevards in search of Tofu stands or Gourmet Coffee Houses
SC430s are for cruising downtown Miami on a lazy summer evening
SC430s tells the world:LOOK AT ME, I MADE IT AND YOU DIDN'T

Settle into the SC430, lower the top, crank up the Mark Levinson stereo, place a pair of designer shades gently across the bridge of the nose and please, PLEASE, dont smile too much
cause you just know everyone's lookn'

BUT when there is a need to really show out
strap on the GS430

the GS430 goes from 0 to 60 in a mere 5.8 seconds
casually activate your radar while climbing the interstate on-ramp
in a somewhat discreet manner, check around for those pesty State Troopers
once satisfied, the coast is clear...

gun the GS430 and hold on for dear life
as the GS rumbles past 90mph, try not to attract attention by smiling too much

and Fair Warning...
gunning the GS430 may cause severe neck strain

See your Lexus dealer for more details...

one more thing about the GS430...

to see the GS430 really get down

its got to be armed with 17" rubber

cuz...ITS THE ONLY WAY TO BE SURE

Lexus & Gorgeous George know a little about beautiful women...
hey fellas,
depending on what you want from a woman, buy the following car

to ATTRACT women: the SC430

to SEDUCE women: the GS430

to IMPRESS women: the ES 330

to CONTROL women:the LS430

to AGGRAVATE women:the IS 300

Gr8one and Gorgeous George, I hear you both loud and clear!GR8one, there's just something about the LS430's lines that just don't turn me on. However, I'm sure she rides better than my junker limousine and would give me less problems. I know, I know, it doesn't make sense not to try one out. George, in regards to the SC430, I love the car but do you really think that "her" lines are just as sweet as the SL500? I know the price tags don't comapre straight out the showroom but I think you can pick up a used SL500 (03-04) for around the price of a new SC430. Okay, let's use this as an example. If you we were at a stop light and you were in a 05 SC430 and I were in a 03 SL500, both with our tops down; who "wins"? Dudes, it's just something about that dang MB emblem! Not being argumentative, just my oppinion.

Natasha, can we get married now??? :)

Hey Early glad to see you're back and I think Ronnie is the one who is in love-lol---or maybe I am in denial........

Great last line in your most recent post and yes it's true I say (from my own experience with my luscious red GS).

Ronnie, I understand your love of the "emblem" and that is human nature and a bit of brainwashing from the automotive journals and the media. Again, if you sit and drive an LS, you will not go back.....I know it.....get back to your Lexus roots man.....that's where you belong.

Cheers
