Keith Pleas has a post discussing a "gathering" of what would appear to be some of the best minds in Enterprise Architecture. The interesting part of this is that between these luminaries they cannot come up with a definition of SOA other then SOAP without the P. So the question begs to be asked, if this group can't do it, how come so many seem to think that they have? How many times has it been said that you must use Web Services in order to do SOA. Who came up with the now infamous 4 tenants of SOA? Has anyone actually built an entire SOA infrastructure based entirely on web services? Is there really such a critter out there in the wild anywhere? I really like the "concept" of SOA. But I still think that at it's core it is all about the integration. Not something to build an architecture around, but something to build onto your architecture.
