West-Side Training

I currently started training using the West-Side training method (week 5 currently). So far so good, it's a different change of pace compared to my custom workout regime I concatinated throughout the years.

Haven't worked out my legs in 4 years since I play on 2-3 soccer teams depending on the winter or summer season.

Apparently it's supposed to add 40-50 pounds to bench and squat exercises so I will keep you posted if this has worked for me.

I started the training with personal 1RMs of 290 bench and 295 squats (from not having done leg exercises in 4-5 years lol).

I expect my squat max to increase no matter what since I haven't touched my legs in a long time...and my bench hopefully I can finally do 305 once on my own...stay tuned.

Gravatar Well, finally finished the 9 week program and a little correction that I need to make is that my previous bench max was 275, not 290.

Well, good news, both my maxes have gone up! My new bench max is an even 300 (didn't try 3 plates on each side but not being sick I would of tried those 5 extra pounds).

As for my squat, well I went up to 400 with room to spare. Could of maybe added 5-10 extra pounds but I was coughing everywhere and didn't want to give the guys and gals around me the flu. :)

So now, gonna go back to my old program for 2-3 months to get my biceps back since my wife commented on how my arms used to look nicer before (one downfall of west-side, little bicep work). ;)

So hopefully I should start the new year again with the west-side again and raise those maxes by 30 pounds or so.

Gravatar Well, after doing some months with my old program, it's time to attempt west-side again in this new year.

This time I have a training partner willing to do this with me so we should get better results.

My new maxes for bench is 315 and for squats is 410.

Going to start this tomorrow and again will last 8 weeks.

Stay tuned... 1/15/2006 6:53 AM | JF
