I've been looking for and testing many different Content Management Systems and this one takes the cake. On top of offering top noch workflow management, Active Directory and LDAP Integration, it has a concept called "Smart Spaces". This allows the administrator to easily control security by creating rules on each space (folders) that allow, deny, or direct content to another location. I have a very large collection of electronic documentation, such as word documents and PDF files. The Alfreso search utility was able to parse these documents and provide the best search functionality I've see in a while. Alfresco also provides a .Net web services client so you can develop portlets for the software. Lastly, they also offer a commercial version, which doesn't provide more functionality than the community (open source) version, but does provide enterprise level support.
