After watching Oregon lose to Arizona last night I started thinking about the big picture in college football. Assuming the rest of the top 5 take care of business this weekend, the rankings would be 1. LSU, 2. KU, 3. OU, 4. MU, 5. WVU. How weird is that? Three big 12 teams in the top 4 (assuming everything pans out). How weird is it to see KU and MU that high? I know the national scene is used to seeing Oklahoma that high already. Me, being a Missouri Tiger fan, I am just so excited about the coming weeks of football. If we win out, we are in the national championship, no ifs ands or buts about it. We are in. I love it. I don't know what to do.
Of course, being a MU fan, I have many of our memories swirling around in my head. Including, some of our greatest wins... I mean, near wins... I mean losses (see Tyus Edney, 5th down, kicked ball, and many others). Ok, fine! My team has seemed to be cursed as long as I have been following them. I mean, we are one of just a handful to never go to the final four or win a football championship. Heck, if we win this week, I think we'll be only the second team in school history to win 10 games. You look at teams like Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan, Ohio State, etc. They win 10 all the time. So, this is a pretty big deal to me.
I'd like to share one other thought I had. I am certain I am not the only one either. What if the game at Arrowhead between KU and MU in two weeks or the Big 12 Championship is really the national title we are watching? What if our three top teams in the Big 12 are really the best there is? Living here, we look at our own both ways. We say they are awesome and the next minute they are horrible and will get stomped. So that leaves me wondering if we really are watching the best teams? Unforunately for us, the BCS system won't let us figure that out. We need a playoff right? Who cares right at this moment? I know if my teams wins out, they'll be there... I'll save that conversation for all the fans of #6-#25 :)
