Lessons learned

Saturday, November 10, 2007 10:32 PM

I have never attempted to blog before, so this might take a while to get used to.  I guess I'll start with my day today, and then I can introduce myself over time.  I had a good and bad day.  With every day, there are lessons to be had and whether or not we accept them and learn and move on.  Today, me and some friends drove to Columbia, MO and watched the MU vs Texas A&M game.  MU won 40-26!  Yay!  Go Tigers!!!!  Ok, that was one of the best parts of my day.  I did want to share some lessons I learned today however:

  1. When going to a college football game that is around 2 hours away, leave extremely early.  My friends took forever this morning and after 5 million stops, a long ticket line, and some other issues we finally got in the game with about 6 minutes left in the first quarter.  Even with that, since we could only get GA seats, every 5 seconds a mob of people was walking in front of us to go do whatever.  I kept moving around.  I sat in bleachers, on the grass hill, walked around the railing, etc.  I missed half the game staring at peoples backsides as they walked by or stood in front of me.
  2. The lines for tickets and food at Farot Field are ridiculously long all the time.  I stood in line for tickets for over 45 minutes and food for 35 minutes!  Next time, I am doing something more creative, like showing up early and parking closer.  Then I can go get lunch out of the truck.  Oh, I forgot to mention I parked like a mile or more away from the stadium.  But nearly everyone does so I didn't feel it deserved it's own number.
  3. Drunk people and sober people don't mix.  I made a vow to quit drinking a few weeks ago and have held true to my word, but my friends loved to drink it up today and therefore at times they got on my nerves.  Don't get me wrong.  I love my friends.  Just some of the drunkeness wore me out today.
  4. When going to a college football game that is around 2 hours away, the car ride home with drunk people hollaring and slapping each other, and messing with my radio... sucks.  I think that relates to both the other points, but I think it deserves it's own, because it was quite frustrating.  I may be boring, but I just like get in the truck, drive home and listen to some post game.  So after a bunch of songs and hollaring and slapping and 5 million more stops I finally made it home.  Hurray for me!
  5. One of my friends brought his 4 year old son.  He didn't really partake in any drinking or anything, but 4 year olds, 2 hour car rides, drunk people, and a 3 hour football game don't mix either.  Just an FYI.  I knew that was going to be a bad idea, but I was trying to go with the flow.  He and I have to talk about that and work out the details beforehand next time.  I just didn't feel right having a kid around those kinds of things.
  6. Did I mention the drunk vs sober thing? :)
  7. Dogs don't like being left alone all day.  I knew that already, but they sure reminded me when I got home.
  8. Mom's like to lecture!  I got one of them when I chatted with mine about the day and mentioned the 4 year old and the drunk guys.  Like I said, gotta plan that one out better next time and make some rules before we leave.

So the moral of the story is...  well, actually, I think I just rambled my way through my first post.  Yay me!  Ok, next time I'll try and be a bit more interesting.  Oh, maybe I'll have some lessons tomorrow as I take my drunken friends to the Chiefs game tomorrow morning!  I guess a guy never really learns his lesson, does he?  At least this guy :)

Happy blogging!  My dogs and I are off to bed!  Go Mizzou!  Go Chiefs!
