Update (11/22/2004): There are no more invites to give out. Thanks to everyone for taking the time to find the information and enter correctly. If you missed your chance, I should get another batch of 6 invites sometime soon and will be doing something like this yet again since it seemed to work (albeit very, very slowly debunking my internet crack theory somewhat, but who cares). I've had these for a while and I thought I'd use a very simple contest for people to get their hands on it. If you have ......

Hotmail vs. Gmail I have used hotmail extensively before I got a gmail account and I still use it as my primary personal email box for spam purposes. I've yet to receive spam in my gmail inbox, so I've made it a point to use it as wisely as possible. Hotmail has a huge limitation in their free service: 2mb storage. I subscribe to a SalesLogix discussion group which fills up those 2mb in roughly 2 weeks give or take a couple of days. Every so often I would archive all of the messages using Outlook's ......

I realized this a while back but I wanted to post my idiocy for the whole world to laugh at. A long time ago I purchased a CD from Media Play and used a credit card. They gave me an offer for free issues of Entertainment Weekly. I would have to cancel the service before the end of the period or else I would have been charged. I canceled the service but I was continually charged. To make matters worse, my parents were receiving and keeping the damned issues. I would see a payment marked EW on my credit ......

I walked into the office today to receive wonderful news: our email server was down. The good news was that it was a problem with the equipment, not DNS so we were still receiving emails because the smtp server was up and queuing our mail. I did some preliminary troubleshooting to see if I could see a problem. I tracerouted to the box, I telneted to port 110 to see if I could open a connection but everything was dead. Our hosting company has many different pop server IP addresses, so I thought maybe ......

I received mail through my blog about a product that most of you know about. I consider it spam because of the following reasons: Hotmail classified it as junk and it's rarely wrong I didn't really specify a need for this product I did not go to their website and fill out a questionnaire or ask for materials I belong to a dying breed of person that when they want something, they hunt for it. Part of the fun of purchasing something is the hunt for the item and bargains that may or may not pertain ......

I decided to clean up the areas of my blog that don't actually have content in them. I had a lot of categories but nothing was quite filling up everything I thought I could touch base on. I removed categories from the articles and links. I also moved RobOS to it's own category: Operating Systems. This gives it easy access and readability because now if you ever want to read an article you can just click on Operating Systems under Articles and you'll be taken to the list. I posted 2 new articles last ......

I am at a job where I could literally do 98% of my work from home. I have VNC on every computer in the network and ssh on the firewall boxes so that I have an extra layer of connectivity. Recently there has been a problem. It seems the phone lines for our house are down completely. You pick up a phone and there's dead air. We called the phone company and apparently there's a huge outage most likely affecting our whole neighborhood and possibly more. This means we're out of phone service too which ......

Upon installing Service Pack 2 on Wednesday night, 2 programs decided to give me trouble. HP PrecisionScan Pro 3.01 and WinFax (more specifically the NetSatisFAXtion connector) basically died on me. WinFax I figured is possibly hopeless for 2 reasons: WinFax is 10.0. It's technically not “XP compatible“ and to make it so would requiring purchasing it all over again. I loathe the product to begin with, so I'm not about to purchase 10 more copies so that it can go from 10.0 to 10.03 (ooh ......
