My superpower...

James Anderson posted an article about a lightning strike here.

I had a similar experience when I was a teenager. I was surfing the internet on our blazing fast 28.8 modem during a thunderstorm. Our phone lines had the habit of blowing surge protectors, modems, and caller id's so we had a tendency of disconnecting everything we could (it was the line, not the appliances but Bellsouth wouldn't have any of that nonsense).

Lightning strikes the telephone pole and travels up the line. The bolt proceeded to go through the modem, into the computer, travel through the mouse into my right arm where it stopped. My arm was numb for a good 30 minutes to an hour or so later, the specifics of which I can't remember. I just remember that it was so long I was worried and annoyed because having an appendage go numb for long periods of time isn't humorous.

I thought I was either some kind of electricity manipulator or I severely fried my insides because of the experience. Since I can't manipulate electricity or shoot lightning bolts out of the tips of my fingers, I have reason to believe it affected me mentality and physically in some way. I don't think it took years or seconds off my clock, but it definitely shook things up a little bit.

Come to think of it, I have also been shocked by electrical outlets. In an old place of employment we would have to get under the desk to see the power outlet. The lazy person that I am would just shove my hand under there and feel for an outlet. I would then plug in the laptop power supply and go about my business. On numerous occasions my hand touched the metal as it went into the outlet, sending a couple of volts of electricity through me. Those days weren't fun and they caused some slowness for a little bit of time while I attempted to recover. It was in no way like the lightning strike but I do remember a lot of similarities now that I think about it. Good news is I don't shock myself any more though I'm very careful when I plug stuff up now. Sometimes I'm surprised I lived this long and other times I'm like “What, you can't be electrocuted like this?” *Touches metal in electrical outlet*
