CRM

Finally

Today marked the end of an incredibly long SalesLogix upgrade from 5.2 to 6.1. There were a few bugs in my implementation but none that were too serious. I get to spend the rest of the week hammering them out, taking the time tonight to focus on a pretty big logic blunder.

SalesLogix is slowly becoming a decent CRM application. It is one of the best now but it's starting to become something our company can really use and maximize. 6.1 is tons easier to use and maintain than any previous version which is very good news. Now that I have more time, I'm going to start developing a proactive management solution simply because it's needed.

This means that I'll have more time to blog mainly because I won't have much intellectual stimuli other than the occasional bug fix. I want to post on a couple of issues I've noticed with SalesLogix as well as get my management system built. I've had some more ideas about RobOS that I'd like to put out here to eventually build upon. I may have too much free time now though, which can be both good and bad. My girlfriend has a month off so I think I'll begin to see her a little more while I can.

Now that I think about it I can't take all of the credit for the upgrade. My girlfriend helped me out a ton on a day when we were supposed to spend the whole day together. I tricked her into doing some work for me not thinking that it'd take almost double the time to get things done. Without her help I'd probably still be at work trying to pull this crap off so I'm very greatful. I have something planned as a “thank you” but I won't spoil that because I know she'll probably read this.

One word sums up what I'm feeling right now: Yay

Congratulations on the upgrade... Would this be a bad time to point out that 6.2 launches next month? Of course it wouldn't... like most of us, you're probably not going to upgrade for another year or so (which I think is largely wise for most companies).

You're not the only one who was happy to see the end of the two month long preparation and implementation of the upgrade. I can sum up what I feel in two words: Muy Yay.
I'm also curious as to what the thank you surprise is...but I won't ruin it for you by asking (at least not on here :) ).

I know about 6.2 because my dad got a call. That's part of the reason I HAD to have it done this weekend versus any other.

I'll install 6.2 the second I get the CDs but only on my testing machine. I want to run through an clean install upgrade like I had planned for 6.1. I have tons of documentation leftover that I'll easily modify to do so. By the time I perfected the upgrade process it should be stable enough to actually use in production. I cross my fingers with every version but it's actually getting better as we go along.

I attended the Best software conference in June, and I have to say that v6.2 is going to be VERY COOL. They haven't changed every aspect of the software, but they've totally revamped opportunities, there's a brand new customer service module, and you can customize it with brand new main views.

Congrats on your upgrade, btw. I feel lucky to not have to worry about anything before 6.0, because of when we got into it.
