This month FredNUG is shaking things up a bit! Instead of meeting on our traditional 4th Wednesday of the month, we’re moving the meeting to Tuesday, September 22. Also, instead of having an intro talk, we’re doing pizza from 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM. Then, starting at 7 PM, INETA Speaker Claudio Lassala will present on Refactoring, Patterns, new language features, code quality, and more! This sounds like a topic that all .NET developers can benefit.

The scheduled agenda is:

6:30 PM - 7:00 PM - Pizza/Social Networking/Announcements

7:00 PM - 8:30 PM - Main Topic: Refactoring, Patterns, new language features, code quality, and more! with Claudio Lassala

This session will cover a little bit of many things learned from projects I’ve been working on. We expect every attendee to learn a few tricks that can be applied immediately, and also to feel encouraged to go out and research more on whatever area appeals the most. Besides learning those things, we really hope attendees will start thinking and approaching their code in a different way.

Speaker Bio: Claudio Lassala is a Senior Developer at EPS Software Corp.
Frederick .NET User Group August Meeting

The next Frederick .NET User Group (FredNUG) meeting will be Wednesday, August 26th at the Urbana Regional Library. At the meeting, we’ll recap the previous meeting’s bot bash code challenge. Since the last meeting, several members have begun improving their bots. During the recap, we’ll provide and overview of the challenge for those folks who missed the July meeting and then see whose bot can accumulate the most wins. Following a break for pizza, a little bit of social networking and a demo from the meeting’s sponsor eSymmetrix, Steve Michelotti will present a session on LINQ to SQL in N-Tier Applications.

The scheduled agenda is:

6:30 PM - 7:00 PM - Intro Topic: Code Challenge Recap/Bots go head-to-head (no coding involved this time).

7:00 PM - 7:30 PM – Pizza/Social Networking/Demo from this month’s meeting Sponsor - eSymmetrix

7:30 PM - 8:45 PM - Main Topic: LINQ to SQL in N-Tier Applications with Steve Michelotti

Main Topic Description: Creating an N-Tiered design with clear “separation of concerns” in crucial to successful solutions. However, there have been considerable misconceptions that using LINQ essentially means putting SQL statements directly in the code behinds of web pages. This presentation will create a tiered application from the ground up in order to debunk this misconception. The presentation tier for the application which will be built “on the fly” will not have any knowledge that LINQ is even being used behind the scenes in the data layer. Rather than simple CRUD operations on a single row, the presentation will highlight real-world scenarios with complex objects (e.g., parent/child relationships). The presentation will first show out of the box LINQ auto-generated SQL and then, in minutes, switch to all stored procedures in order to examine the differences. Throughout the talk, the “gotchas” for building N-Tiered LINQ applications will be presented with their appropriate solutions.

Speaker Bio: Steve Michelotti, MSCD, MCPD, MCT is a consultant for Applied Information Sciences. He has consulted at Advertising.com/AOL where he was the Tech Lead for one of the highest volume .NET applications in the world. He is a frequent presenter at developer user groups and Code Camps in the Maryland area. He has been on Microsoft Channel9 and his published articles include Visual Studio Magazine and his blog: www.geekswithblogs.net/michelotti.

8:45 PM - 8:50 PM – RAFFLE!

Please join us and get involved in our .NET developers community!
