Wow, what a great couple of days last week! Despite having attended Devscovery the past two years, I’m still amazed at the amount of useable content that is covered during this 3-day event. The event started with a keynote by Scott Hanselman talking about the impact of social networking on software development. While some of his points may be debated by some folks in the industry, he certainly caused many in attendance to give more thought into exercising their own personal branding. Following the keynote, attendees broke-up into their areas of interest. For yours truly, I decided to attend Scott’s talk about ASP.NET MVC where he provided some valuable lessons learned about its implementation. After a break for lunch, I attended the afternoon sessions presented by Jeffrey Richter where he spoke about CLR & C# 4.0 and Windows Live Framework and Mesh. After Jeffrey’s talk, I look forward to the 4.0 release and to see how the Windows Live Framework and Mesh is received by the development community in the near future. The 2nd day and half of the 3rd day, I attended Jeff Prosise’s Silverlight 2 & 3 talks. Having never attended any talks by Jeff, I was very impressed. Jeff presented Silverlight soup to nuts in a way that was easily understood with a number of lessons learned that will surely save some pain for many of us. I rounded out the 3rd day with a session by Walt Ritscher talking about WPF Pixel Shading, particularly his Shazzam tool. Prior to his talk, I was not aware of this handy tool. What a time savings it will be for WPF pixel shading.
Not surprisingly, the week was filled with valuable .NET content without the fluff. I look forward to getting back to the office, so I can start implementing some of the .NET content that was demonstrated during the week. I’m looking forward to another Devscovery conference in the future. It’s quite the bang for the buck!
