NTeam - Open Source for the Masses

I started a new open source project on GotDotNet this morning. NTeam will be an open source alternative to Team System, will make use of the open source projects all ready available such as NUnit, NAnt, etc., and will target small- and mid-sized development teams. If you are interested in joining the workspace, join through the project page. I am really excited about this project and hopefully, it will fulfill the needs of those teams feeling shunned by Microsoft.
My good friend Alan Stevens has all ready joined the project and I hope a few others will soon. We are anxious to get everything rolling.

Gravatar This looks like a good idea, although you forgot a link. You can get to the NTeam project page here....

Gravatar Great idea. But is GDN workspaces currently the right portal at the right time? 4/5/2005 9:20 PM | Scott Bellware

Gravatar Scott, I have some of the same concerns. If it becomes a problem, I will move the project to some other provider. I hope GDN works out though. 4/5/2005 9:43 PM | Jason Bentley

Gravatar Holy crap, you stole my idea. GDN sorta sucks though. :( 4/5/2005 10:53 PM | css

Gravatar Who knows, maybe by the time the project is ready to roll, the next rev of GDN will be ready, willing, and able! Here's hoping.

You know, a discussion of this project would make an excellent Birds of a Feather session at Tech Ed! 4/6/2005 3:33 AM | Scott Bellware

Gravatar My only concern is the GDN location. But overall this is an excellent idea. 4/6/2005 9:07 AM | Jónas Antonsson

Gravatar Good luck. You're taking on the challenge of writing code AND coordinating efforts across how many open source projects?! Brave man! I salute you! 4/6/2005 9:30 AM | Darrell

Gravatar NTeam is the name of a new .NET Open Source Project which is supposed to be an alternative to the all new Visual Studio 2005 Team System. 4/6/2005 9:34 AM | Jónas Antonsson

# Microsoft Team System: Good Riddance, Right?

Gravatar I'm perfectly willing to accept, after dealing with the massive tool chest that is Visual Studio Team System, that this is not the right dogfood for us small developer groups. Fine. That's cool and all, and though most small developer shops are the ones that kind of didn't get the memo about the pricing in the first place, but whatever.... 4/6/2005 5:29 PM | Barely Legal Substance

Gravatar I've been involved with a few failed projects on GDN Workspaces. ReflectorAddIns (started by Lutz) and a couple of projects of my own. In the end we found GDN Workspaces to be pretty unusable.

I headed over to your link to see if things have improved at all. Supprise supprise GDN Workspaces is down again. =o( It is such a bad advertisement for .NET!

I'd be inclined to try Sourceforge where some of the projects you're intending to intergrate are hosted. Good luck where ever the project ends up. 4/13/2005 10:40 AM | Jamie Cansdale

# re: NTeam - Open Source for the Masses

Gravatar Oh man, ABOUT TIME guys - but I think you need two things for this to really succeed (and for me to want to work on it =P). Get off GotDotNet and onto sourceforge or a subversion powered site, and make sure this sucker builds on mono under OS's other than Win32 along with Microsoft's CLR!

Great idea. Either way I'll be watching this closely...
