The 2nd Coming of Steve Jobs and I just came to a part that talks about Bill Gates making a prank call to Steve Jobs in the late 80's/early 90's. I wish I could use a direct quote but I left the book at work. Gates basically acted like some French guy and left a message on Jobs' answering machine saying 'The Macintosh sucks!' Anyway, that is nearly the funniest thing I have ever heard about the great man (Gates, not Jobs). So far, the book pretty much reinforces that Jobs was (maybe still is?) the biggest ego-maniac EVER!
There was also a
very interesting section that talked about Ross Perot wanting to buy Microsoft in 1986 but balking at the $60 million dollar price tag. Seven years later Microsoft went public and was worth about $1 billion. Quite a fumble, I would say on Perot's part. He did buy 16% of Jobs' second company NeXT which pretty much burned money like a Suburban burns gasoline for a few years before finally being put out of it's misery for $20 million.
I would pay several thousand bucks for a copy of that Gates prank phone call.
