Cool BizTalk Blogs

BizTalk Server can be installed on 32-bit as well as 64-bit Windows operating systems. You don’t need separate licenses for it. Moreover, both 32-bit as well as 64-bit executables can run simultaneously on windows x64. Simplest way to run 32-bit executable on 64-bit OS is to create a host instance by selecting “32-bit only” check box. To run 64-bit executable – assign the executable to run on host instance with unselected “32-bit only” check box and the host instance must be running on windows 64x machine.

It is obvious that in terms of performance, 64-bit CPU and Windows x64 would be a better choice against 32-bit. In addition to CPU processing you also get to utilize full 4GB of virtual memory.

Note – Standard Edition or Workgroup Edition BizTalk Server can only create 32-bit only Host

I cannot comment unless you give more information on what is the error message and scenario.

None of my BTS is installed on 64 bit OS as yet. However, I am sure everything must be same in terms of how you use SMTP adapter.

This means Biztalk server 2004 not supporting 64 bit processor or 64 bit machine !

No BizTalk Server 2004 do not support 64 bit processors (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926628)

I have never tried this but I think you will still be able to install and run it on 64-bit Edition Operating Systems (running on 64-bit processors).

Possible reason of no support for 64-bit processing can be - .Net 1.1 has NO 64-bit support . BizTalk Server 2004 itself is a .Net application based on .Net 1.1.

BizTalk Serve 2006 is based on .Net 2.0 which has 64-bit support that is why you find 64-bit support in it.

Hope this answers your question...
